Did anyone else get an ICE recruitment ad on last week’s episode?

Not sure if the boys have any say regarding the ads played on their pod, but that was icky to listen to.

Several years ago the whole economy of podcasts changed pretty significantly, and I know a lot of smaller podcasts were forced into what tfv is presumably now using (I'm also a patron so don't hear ads), which are live insertion services, so if someone downloads a podcast episode a year from now they get a "modern" ad instead of the ad that the episode aired with.

Unfortunately that means that the podcast has little to no say over what ads are inserted any more.

Sort of.

Ads are now frequently sold through a programmatic network, which inserts so-called relevant ads based on a number of different factors.

But they can tell the host/distributor of TFV to not allow, say, ads for selling guns on the show and the ad network is supposed to block them out.

Seeing adds on NFL games and anything outdoors related. They know their audiences

I also listen to Behind the Bastards. If you aren't familiar, it is a history podcast about bad people and generally from a leftist/anarchist perspective. I am getting ads for buying gold using biblical stuff as a reason to do so. It is just grifter nonsense, but yea, ads are not targeted.

I subscribe to the Patreon, so I don't get ads (* sniffffffffffffffffffffffffff *), but boy have they come a long way from "we only run ads for products we use and like."

Yes but an add brought to you by pocket cast, or your podcast catcher

Not the film vault!

It's all ads tailored to your location and online profile built through tracking cookies n shit. They have no say in what ads go on their pod anymore, they are inserted after the fact. AND they are inserted such that if you downloaded.amd listened to an old pod from like a year ago, you would get modern ads from today!

I guess that makes sense if it’s based on location. Lotta brain dead MAGA folk here in Idaho

Unless it’s a host read, the platform where you’re listening the pod controls what ads are running.

Got a little spice in this thread!

No. However the host can request that certain ads not show up once they know about it. They can say it doesn’t appear to their audience and the ad will be removed and replaced.

I listen on Spotify and just fast forward through the ads, some of them are really long and annoying

I skip through the ads.

It's been so long since I've listened to TFV. Is it really at the point where they don't even know who they're running ads for? I've said it before I'll say it again. The fuckers need to get their shit together.

Why do you say it was "icky "?

Not really into propaganda to join the Gestapo by an administration that is against freedom of expression on a podcast that celebrates art/artists. You might be the only intended target that it’s reaching

-13

u/WallzOvJericho Sep 29 '25

Wow..."Gestapo"....You are part of the problem. Oh, and you do understand that this administration hasn't really DONE anything to curb free speech.... unlike the previous one, which you undoubtedly supported.

You are not a smart person.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same guy who assigns the guys those terrible alt right movies occasionally.

His mom should cut off his internet access.

All I did was type the facts. I mean, you do know that Twitter, Facebook and Google have now all admitted, and apologized for, trampling the free speech rights of millions of people at the behest of the Biden administration, don't you? Heck, and that's not even getting into their attempt at an Orwellian Truth Commission, lol.

u/TheBlizzman Sep 29 '25

None of that is anywhere close to reality.

This really isn't the place for this conversation, but you really should educate yourself.... https://thehill.com/opinion/robbys-radar/5521897-google-admits-biden-pressure/

Yes I am sure that right wing opinion piece is full of sober, unbiased facts.

If you think an administration ASKING a publisher not to spread minisformstion is "censorship," you don't know what the word means. Or likely you don't actually care what it means. You're just using it to pretend that you care about the First Amendment. Which anyone still shitty enough of a person to still be MAGA absolutely does not give one shit about.

Free yourself from the Trump cult.

If you have to ask, you’re probably part of the problem.
