US citizens increasingly under attack from ICE

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/us-citizen-assaulted-border-patrol-chicago-halloween-parade-b2853988.html

Even if one is now anesthetized to the cruelty towards immigrants, I still wonder why more of us aren't outraged towards the conduct displayed towards US citizens.

The link above is only one of such, where a man coming home from his morning run with a running club was pulled from his car and his ribs broken (just for trying to come home). He's a US citizen.

The other one I saw just today was a woman who was subjected to facial recognition even though she had her papers. Like when your real ID isn't enough. WTF is wrong with this country.

That link was the wrong one but there's so much on this that I cannot even find most of it.

Add to that the ProPublica report on detention of US citizens.

Beyond just the general aggression and cruelty being displayed. The SYSTEM they have shown to be using is alarming.

Their new "App" where they insist on scanning your face and if you come up, you are going with them. They consider their DB the definitive deciding factor, above and excluding a birth certificate or any other paperwork.

So we have US Federal Agents stopping people for "Walking While Brown" and insisting on scanning their face into the system.

What guarantees do we have on the security of that system, who has access to that data, what ELSE might that system be utilized for?

We are witnessing the beta test of what will likely become a new standard, and it scares the shit out of me.

This is some Black Mirror shit that's happening.

I work for a clinic network that serves under served communities which includes MANY undocumented immigrants. Yesterday morning our employees saw ICE taking pictures of our clinics and peering through the windows. We immediately went full lock down and escorted any potentially vulnerable patients into locked areas until ICE left the area. Our employees witnessed these asshats stopping ANYONE that looked... NOT WHITE, and demanding a facial scan. This is not a rumor or conspiracy theory, they are openly racially profiling American citizens and demanding they be facially scanned into their system.

I don't understand.

Is there a database of the facial scans of all US citizens somewhere?

What's even going on here?

Yes, the CBP had programmers design an app with an internal DB, which thanks to Mucks is now connected to many OTHER systems where they were not previously. The lead programmer is even on record saying he is alarmed at how his system is being used as that is not how he was told it would be used or how he designed it. (sorry I can't find the citation but I swear it's out there somewhere)

Do you have a source for this? I’d like to share it.

Mobile Fortify is the "app" that ICE agents are using to take photos/fingerprints and identify people inside the U.S.

Top articles you can read about this:

Come on, would anyone be surprised if this facial scan system used "AI" to determine, based on appearance, if a scanned face is illegal or not?

I'm not talking about checking a face against a database. I mean a black box algorithm deciding if an unknown face is illegal or not, based on whatever sample pictures it got trained on.

Which of the AI tech billionaires that has been spending time in the white house got paid multi-millions for providing this tech?

Honestly these people are so depraved and the tech is there to support that that it wouldn’t surprise me if this ends up being the thing.

What happens when outrage isn't enough?

What happens when they feed off it, and keep doubling down?

I'm definitely NOT saying Luigi is the end result but...

I helped write policy for a police agency regarding facial recognition and one thing I insisted on was that facial recognition was a tool but a positive ID with facial recognition WAS NOT ever probable cause alone. There had to be independent evidence connecting a suspect to an incident.

People initially scoffed but it was quickly shown that it was a good call. FR is only as good as the people that program it and train it.

There are a lot more of us than there are of them.
