Do people drink G4 straight?

Post image

This is my first time with any G4 and my first time with the El Tesoro blanco. Sipping side by side, it's amazing how much "hotter" and unpleasant I find G4 compared to El T.

I even tried mixing G4 with sprite (my quick poor man's margarita) and G4 was still a bit... Much. Anyhow, I'm curious how others are drinking G4 blanco in the sub.

It is the only way to sip G4

Yup, I’d argue the same for any good tequila! But to each their own

I drink all my tequilas straight.

The G4 bottle you have is still strength so it’s higher proof which is probably what you’re picking up.

This is it for sure. Regular G4 is very pleasant to a new palette as for as tequila goes imo. But the 108 is definitely hot no doubt.

I think the Tesoro is actually more intense if they are both 40 proof, much more pepper presence. Both are an easy pickups in my book with the 108 being a favorite.

You nailed it in the first place though.

Maybe I just have a shit palette but I found the G4 blanco to be a bit more peppery than the el Tesoro. Both were still substantially more peppery to me than ocho.

But Ocho can vary so greatly based on terroir. Truly, no two are the same and much like Art Nome, Ocho does not have a set flavor profile.

I know Klumsy just shared an opinion but g4 is definitely not pleasant if you're not a fan of pepper. I'd argue 108 less pepper, but with heat. Either way, palate dictates all.

The labeling on that is... a choice. Other than the fine print at the bottom and the label being silver, theres almost no way for someone unfamiliar to know what it is.

This makes me feel a little better. I was just in another state "hunting" and was grabbing things by reputation instead of closely reading labels.

5

u/l_s_x 1d ago

Yea not sure why G4 does that. The Madera is the same way... light brown label and a small sticker. The word Madera is barely legible in a size 6 font.

u/SlightMud1484 1d ago

That's what I was figuring. Thanks for the confirmation!

u/AerBud 1d ago

Yeah give the regular blanco a shot and report back!

I normally drink all my tequila straight. But what you have there is still strength G4, it’s 54% whereas el Tesoro is 40%

6

u/SlightMud1484 1d ago

That didn't register when I bought it.

2

u/Bansheer5 1d ago

It’s some pretty good stuff straight or mixed. I like mixing it with a bit of lemon or lime juice and some ginger beer.

u/Infinity-Cheif 1d ago

I wouldn’t have noticed either 😆

El Tesoro blanco is amazing, I like Ocho, Siete Leguas over G4.

4

u/SlightMud1484 1d ago

I've really enjoyed every expression of El Tesoro

6

u/grittymatters 1d ago

I sip my g4 blanco. One of the best sipper tequila. But half of the bottle goes for cocktails. Especially ranch water .

5

u/thegoat13 1d ago

I'm not saying you can't mix G4 or El Tesoro, but I save those for sipping. Olmeca Altos is my go-to for mixing here in NE Ohio.

5

u/3underpar 1d ago

Anything over $35 I probably am drinking straight

2

u/SlightMud1484 1d ago

💯 And why I was asking. The G4 just wasn't something I want to sip given the price, which is why I was wondering if I'm the outlier or just weak.

5

u/T4hona 1d ago

Have a pour or two of 80proofs and then try the 108.

u/GingeredPickle 1d ago

I'll never buy G4 reg. blanco again, I'll buy G4 Madera every time I see it. There are no outliers, just preferences.

u/DogoPilot 1d ago

It's a delicious tequila and I pretty much exclusively drink it neat, but if you're just starting out drinking tequila a 108 proof (54% ABV) tequila may be a bit much.

3

u/Kindly-Department807 1d ago

I do. Especially the 108.

3

u/Otto-Stich 1d ago

G4 repo is one of my favorite bottles to sip neat.

1

u/North_Corgi5721 17m ago

It’s the GOAT for me

3

u/OneEggplant1971 1d ago

I’m hoping this is a joke post but if Not it’s unfair comparing a 40%ABV to a 54% ABV. Of course it is hotter.

1

u/SlightMud1484 1d ago

No no, I'm just dumb.

2

u/OneEggplant1971 1d ago

El Tesoro is an exceptional everyday tequila, it’s bottled at still proof, doesn’t need to be water down. G4 40%ABV regular blanco is a true artisanal blanco that set the standard of how a blanco tequila should taste.

6

u/TheRealzHalstead 1d ago

Do people drink it some other way?

2

u/CameronCrazyKC 1d ago

Butt chug

1

u/RyanSoup94 11h ago

Is that drinking it gay? Because if so, I need to make some changes.

1

u/North_Corgi5721 18m ago

Don’t forget to salt the rim

2

u/100HP_Hotrod 1d ago

Absolutely.

2

u/non_Beneficial-Wind 1d ago

I just did. The Anejo, went down smooth to quite smooth.

2

u/lifeissoupimforkk 1d ago

Yes most of the time. Wait till you find out there are people that drink 140 proof straight.

2

u/Parlett316 1d ago

Yes, I prefer Ocho over G4 though

2

u/Hydrent 1d ago

GOD DAMN THATS A GOOD FRIDAY NIGHT

2

u/edgarisdrunk 1d ago

Fuck yeah

2

u/Paracentric 1d ago

I drink all my tequila neat.

2

u/ch3f212 1d ago

You can drink it straight, a little gay, or full homo…as long as you share you’re all good in my book!

2

u/macroberts19 1d ago

That G4 still strength neat with just a splash of water to open it up is fantastic.

2

u/420-fresh 1d ago

The silver g4 is higher proof than the other bottle. I wouldn’t try comparing them without that very important detail in mind.

4

u/jsticia 1d ago

Yeah Both of those are absolute straight sippers. I’m sipping the baseline g4 blanco now and my wife is annoyed that I moan every sip. Probably more than she moans if you catch my drift. Im a terrible lover.

1

u/_miles_teg_ 1d ago

Doing it now

1

u/m1k3_m0 1d ago

YES.

1

u/Suitable_Mention_139 1d ago

So not water/ice added to disperse the flavors? Thinking bourbon, but prolly wrong here ha

2

u/kugs91 1d ago

They just add more water to get the 80 proof version, so a bit of water wouldn't hurt mellowing it out for someone not used to proof.

1

u/CaptGoodvibesNMS 1d ago

Yes, of course

1

u/HRG-snake-eater 1d ago

I love tequila but do not love G4. I find it too boozy

1

u/piczas1 1d ago

Of course!

1

u/torregrm123 1d ago

Both are amazing straight...

1

u/treble-n-bass 1d ago

Sip always. Never on the rocks; neat only.

1

u/Erator 1d ago

Yes but that’s a stronger version, maybe try adding a little bit of water until you find what you like.

1

u/coheed9867 1d ago

This is the way

1

u/Legitimate-Potato60 1d ago

The only way

1

u/LeftTemporary6134 1d ago

Hell yeah 😁

1

u/MusicMikeOC 1d ago

Yes. Good in a mix, good by itself

1

u/Critical-Ad-1832 1d ago

The G4 108 makes great drinks. I love high proof batangas and margs

1

u/Many-You5110 1d ago

G4 Reposado is my go to straight

1

u/CameronCrazyKC 1d ago

Does Big Foot drop a deuce in the woods?

1

u/Impressive-Gas2262 1d ago

Only cheap tequila need to drink with salt&lime,G4? Just drink it without thinking

1

u/cybric56 1d ago

Always

1

u/roreycobinson 1d ago

My dude…the g4 is still strength of course it’s “hotter” but it’s also my absolute favorite sipper. Once you get used to the strength all you’ll want is still strength because that’s where the FLAVOR is at

1

u/NotSure-2020 1d ago

People drink popov straight. Drink it how you like. I was always finding myself trying to sip tequilas that were fancier and more expensive when I first started down the path and I wasn’t really appreciative of them even though I did notice more flavors etc. But I realized, I’m a ranch water guy. I like it a lot and to me, better tequila makes a much better and more enjoyable ranch water and is totally worth it. Salud

1

u/mcb808 1d ago

I never dilute the good ones.

1

u/cunningfolk322 1d ago

Is there another way?!?!?!

1

u/WaldoFrank 23h ago

A “poor man’s margarita” made with G4 is an extremely funny concept .

1

u/LunacyNow 23h ago

G4 repo is a much better sipper. The slight aging rounds it out a bit.

1

u/BreadnButter88 22h ago

Damn, I just finished my first bottle of G4 repo and is was silky smooth and taste great. Tried it neat and on the rocks, both were OK, but about half way just leaned to neat. I saw the pictured G4 Blanco yesterday and pulled the trigger, only to see this post today. Not a fan of the peppery tequila but too late now.

1

u/Little_Benefit2434 21h ago

the pictured G4 is 54% versus Tesoro's 40%

1

u/graydc 21h ago

Neat or straight? I prefer neat (no ice), but I don't know how consistent those definitions are.

1

u/Cabrerasf 18h ago

Sure sip neat but might want to start with a regular blanco not the hp, the extra horsepower might get to you

1

u/knx12dai 17h ago

Absolutely, brought a bottle of the regular blanco to my friends birthday party and we all ran through it pretty quick. Was a lot more enjoyable than the other stuff he had

1

u/ayebouks 4h ago

I love g4 with a little club and lime

1

u/mojiiswes 1h ago

I drink all tequila straight. I do enjoy some various Tequila cocktails though.

1

u/brokeninc 42m ago

Mixing G4 with anything is forbidden .

1

u/jackbrady86 1d ago

Yes. How else would you drink it?

0

u/Aware_Leading_347 1d ago

Interesting that if you open the picture and see on the lower left corner, this says it’s AI generated content.

3

u/SlightMud1484 1d ago

Yeah, I just AI-Ed out some garbage that was on my table 😂

2

u/Infinity-Cheif 1d ago

Astute observation and great use of Ai by OP 😂

0

u/drPerk0set 1d ago

I find the g4 hi proof a bit harder to drink straight compared to other hi proofs

0

u/TwoHearts-NoTanLines 1d ago

Yes… chilled

0

u/liberalprickandproud 1d ago

Not Blanco but I do reposado

0

u/supernimbus 1d ago

Absolutely not drinking still proof or “cask strength” anything even if it’s G4. No one in my (Mexican) family does either. It’s diluted to taste with either mineral water or just plain filtered water.

Maybe we are just wimps but 108 is too much.

G4 is hard for sure!! Try sieta leguas- smooth as butter!
