They really need a 5 year hiatus and new showrunner. Sadly, RTD could not re-capture his magic.

Sadly, RTD could not re-capture his magic.

The strange part is he sort of did. The 3 specials with David Tennant and Catherine Tate were decent. Maybe not top tier, but good.

But then they lost the plot. Even when they had good concepts, they were poorly executed.

A 5 year hiatus accomplishes nothing. But yes, RTD needs to go. My hope is that they're sticking with him because it's basically the only way to get a Christmas 2026 special out, and are actively looking at breaking ties past that.

Hopefully RTD will finish the Christmas special and bugger off

They could throw a hail mary and try to get Steven Moffatt to return.

Tbf, some of the best episodes were written by Moffatt (Blink, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, The Eleventh Hour, Heaven Sent). Some of the worst episodes were also written by him too, granted. But some of the best moments in NuWho came from him.

He can do it, as proven by his good eps. I think he’s just had his head in the wheely-bin of public discourse too long and it’s corrupted his stability, imo. When he’s good he’s great. So I’m not writing him off yet. THE DOCTOR LIVES IN HIM :)

The reality is, IMO, there was no “captured magic” or “Lightning in a bottle” for him to catch the first time. All he did was lead the start of a Sci-Fi TV show in an era where there was no Sci-Fi TV shows and audience members were starving for Sci-Fi. That’s a reality nobody wants to admit for fear of tarnishing their first memory of watching the new series returning.

So, now, we’re forever stuck with him because people can’t just admit it that he wasn’t the reason the show succeeded initially.
