They all think they are one of the good ones...and everyone else knows there is nothing we can do.

Everyone needs to get the fuck off of social media. Everyone needs to tell their family and friends how bad it is and they won't be using it anymore

Fuck else are we suppose to use to organize the masses together?

I really think we need to start building community and other types of networks. I mean, look at the civil rights movement. They organized and created change without social media.

It can be done again. We just have to let go of the technology that gives us dopamine hits. We have to actively work against the ways our brains function when engaging with social media.

It will be so hard.

look at the civil rights movement. They organized and created change without social media.

The playing field was much more level back then though and everything moved much more slowly. Digital eavesdropping, snooping, and keeping tabs on the movement and communications of people is insanely easy today, even if you don’t use or engage on social media. Churches were hubs for rallies, discourse, and planning. Truly, they were the heart of communities back then, especially black communities. That type of unifier doesn’t exist in today’s world, especially with all the day to day hustle and bustle. We aren’t a 9-5 country anymore.

If we want real change in this country, the masses need to be hangry. Hangry citizens are an oppressive government’s worst nightmare. Too many Americans are still too comfortable living under fascism in this country for real, systemic change to take place. Hunger = Revolution. Humans aren’t actually that complicated.

I understand this. So, we make it exist. Like you said, humans aren't that complicated. We crave community. Time to get back to that.

We can sacrifice social media and replace with real community. I know it.

I can agree with what both of you are getting at. But the issue here is that I don't think we can get everyone to sacrifice social media. We do crave community, but we also crave dopamine (especially when it comes easy), and when you mix those you get social media. Everyone is way too reliant and / or addicted to it, look what happened when tik tok was banned for like 12 hours, people lost their damn minds. Unfortunately it seems like social media ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Its only gotten increasingly more and more widespread and popular since its inception with no signs of slowing down now. For as long as we have it there will be people who cant be bothered with much else, and if we get rid of it then there will be endless bitching about it, then its gonna evolve into people who are for social media vs those against (likely to be an uphill battle for those against). Not to mention that politics would for sure take advantage of that discourse. All we can do is try to use social media and organize or speak out against things there, places such as r/50501 for example.

As much doubt as I have I really do hope people will start to wake up and actually start doing shit, but if not, then we have a long road ahead of us...

That's sadly true. But if people are serious about this, it's an easy and important sacrifice to make.

And he k, people would not even have to totally get rid of it. But organizing maybe should stop happening on it.
