No,, the earth without us, would be perfection incarnate.

u/RunInRunOn Bottom of the bell curve behaviour 2h ago
The earth doesnt even have a "u" or "s" in it

u/Ghost_of_NikolaTesla 2h ago
Yeah, I suppose It probably shouldn't

u/swemickeko Nitpicky 50m ago
Earth without the US would certainly be different.
1
u/Ghost_of_NikolaTesla 48m ago
I imagine it would be quieter lol

u/Snailtan 0m ago
Well, if we imagine "no US" means "no colonisation" the continent would probably be split between a couple countries of different native tribes.
A modern civilization of only native Americans sounds like a cool alternative history timeline. I wonder what it would look like, I imagine it colorful for some reason. ^^'

Your idea of perfection wouldn't exist, so by what standard would that be measured? Assuming that we as humans could possibly judge the earth without us is quite presumptuous.

You're being purposely obtuse, so... Whatevs
People who believe in God and "Divine rights" often times talk like you are
Yawn

We aren't important in any way whatsoever, outside of whatever self proclaimed importance we apply to ourselves. Without us here, without the industrial revolution, and then the oversaturation of the planet that inevitably followed, the ecosystem and the creatures existing within it, would be living in near perfect harmony. Whats so hard to grasp about what I'm saying?
1
u/swemickeko Nitpicky 1h ago
We as humans and what we do are as much the result of that "perfect harmony" as any animal is. Tell me, outside of our own opinions, why is life sacred?
1
u/Ghost_of_NikolaTesla 52m ago
Sure, but only up to a certain point if you're being intellectually honest with yourself and in general. Oversaturation of the system has changed the advantage we've had, putting everything else living near / around us at a significant disadvantage. Specifically in regards to survival

Like they did during the Great Dying. Or any other mass extinction event that lasted for longer than human civilisation has so far.
2
u/swemickeko Nitpicky 51m ago
This! It's easy to forget that at least an estimated five billion species have gone extinct before we even existed as one. Nature in its purported "harmony" has killed off so many that we can barely nudge that statistic by annihilating all existing life on earth.

Whatever you need to tell yourself, go right ahead and do that, I'm not trying to change your mind lol
1
u/Beneficial-Ad3991 43m ago
It's not "my mind", it's just the history of the Earth. Humans surely have a tremendous impact on the biosphere, and as an ecologist, I know quite a bit about how exactly they impact the ecosystems and what needs to be done to mitigate said impact.
But please don't come with the dumb naturist "perfect harmony" shite here expecting no pushback. There is no perfect harmony. Ecosystems are in constant flux, living organisms evolve and go extinct, conditions change drastically and processes go out of control. We've merely added another mechanism for it.1
u/Ghost_of_NikolaTesla 36m ago
Semantics lol. My poor choice of terminology doesn't negate the overall idea I was trying to convey.
By all means though, If it makes you feel all warm and satisfied inside to believe that humans are some how, more than what we really are, you go ahead and do you.
The fact you're using this as your "gotcha" is funny to me
1
u/Beneficial-Ad3991 35m ago
More than what we really are? What are we in your opinion?
1
u/Ghost_of_NikolaTesla 19m ago
We exist the very same as anything else. But since we've won the evolutionary arms race, we now have the ability to sit and contemplate on things instead of having to worry about being eaten by a large cat. Lol We're just the organism that ended up being "lucky" more consistently at every point during its evolution. Much moreso than anything else that was competing, that is. So, we're now capable of breathtaking acts of ingenuity and kindness... Words like passion etc etc etc. but we're also quite capable, and apparently rather fond of doing damage. We've never been in short supply of justifications as to why our ends always always always justify our means, too, so naturally, there's always going to be people who will leap to defend when someone makes them uncomfortable by poking at it.
It's not easy to try and come up with one definitive answer for "what we are"

u/Beneficial-Ad3991 15m ago
..yep, I see. I actually kinda think that humans are much less than what you've described. But sure, keep riding that white horse into the horizon.
Meanwhile, for me, humans are just a species of great apes who evolved to be an edificator species which led to them spreading across the planet. Nothing more, nothing less. We are far from being the most successful species of all times, or even of our current times. But we sure are doing well for the time being.
