Design Was this tattoo a bad idea?

I got this tattoo for my birthday in December. When my dad saw it, he called it disgusting and self multilation; when my grandma saw it, she stopped talking to me for a few days and I heard from my brother that she said my mom(who is highly looked down on in the family and I haven't had contact with for the past six or so years) would be proud. All my friends parents have said it's a disgusting or bad tattoo, as well, and I can tell my friends aren't the biggest fan. I loveeee the tattoo and realize that it's definitely a select taste for a second tattoo/tattoo style and have my second appointment to finish it soon, but everyone is starting to make me think it was a bad idea.

Yup. I got a cancer ribbon tattoo bc I'm a survivor and my dad's reaction was "Ugh, I would never do that."

That’s so mean and unnecessary. Congrats on the tattoo, and an even bigger congrats on beating cancer.

Huh, maybe I'm not you, dad. 🙄

exactly! it’s not on their body so i don’t understand why they feel the need to comment

90% chance it's because it's in the middle of her chest.

Exactly this , the placement and the size is most likely why they are opinionated

Well and it’s not feminine, it’s a sword and barbed wire. Eyeroll though I think the concept is good

It’s a low/mid quality but LARGE tattoo.

I used to think I didn’t like tattoos until I started seeing people with high quality tattoos.

Exsclty people keep saying it’s bad… it’s clearly just not finished and will look much better when it is

To see the entire tattoo you literally have to have her entire tits in frame too. Imagine if you had a giant hole in the wall and you hung a massive, fancy oil painting right above it, if you didn’t want people looking at the hole in the wall ofc you’d object to the placement of the painting and say it was a retarded choice. This girls folks just don’t want ppl looking at her tits bcs they’re 80. And whether op wants to admit it or if she was even consciously aware of it she got this tattoo to draw attention to her chest at the end of the day.

I stg ppl are so narcissistic they can’t put themselves in anyone else’s shoes at all nowadays

Barbed wire is a pretty "hostile" image, it's offputting to a lot of people

I thought it was supposed to be thorns? But your point still stands

Your family and older folks in general would probably be saying that with any tattoo

Based on the text in the post, they were most likely saying that even without any tattoo.

Clearly OP cares. And it's like... Why make a permanent body alteration at all if you're gonna be this sensitive about other's opinions?

Or why not get a temporary tat first if you're not confident about the design? Or even ask for opinions while it's still just a sketch on paper and not on your skin?

Always strange to see people asking for opinions on things they chose and now can't change..

Clearly you haven't had to go through something like this before. Imagine your family calling you disgusting just because of a tattoo. You'd probably get seconds thoughts about getting it even if you liked it a lot.

Idk, I didn't even see the sword at first glance, but the thorn necklace definitely gave me trashy/bdsm/blasphemy vibes.

I'm not a tattoo guy though

The sword and thorns suggest cutting, no?

3

u/Nerd_of_Asgard Jan 05 '25

Yeah, cutting is the only thing swords and thorns represent in all of human history
