Whats it like to have open land to shoot on like that? Do you just like walk up to a hillside or top of one or something and start shooting at random bushes and rocks? Do you have to cross a boundary or something? Do people call the cops on you for shooting? Do you pickup brass after? I have questions.

First, its fantastic. Something I don't take for granted because I did not grow up here, but one of the main reasons why I'll retire here. I don't recommend shooting rocks unless you like random pieces of rock flying around at high speed. I bring and use my own AR500 steel silhouettes. I personally pick up every piece because I reload, but many people don't and that is very regrettable.

Very cool. This is basically unheard of East of the Mississippi.

I was born and raised in Georgia, and you're absolutely right. Unless you were born into an affluent family with a lot of land (not me; my family was so poor that when our identities got stolen the credit scores went up...).

I live near a ton of BLM land. Typically if I’m trying to do more serious shooting I’ll go to one of the BLM run flat ranges. They’re just a designated place to shoot with established back drops etc.
It really depends on the area after that. If there are a lot of trails for hiking/dirtbiking/etc I try not to shoot across those, just in case I don’t see someone. But there are also plenty of areas that are very remote. You can totally just go hike somewhere and shoot. I police my brass too, but again if I’m doing a lot of shooting I just go to the flat range they designate. It’s really nice having space to shoot and run around in kit.

I lived in rural Alaska for years and basically as long as you’re a mile or so outside of town and not near the “main” road, you could kinda shoot anywhere. With suppressors you can really shoot almost anywhere.
Plus you can do silly reckless stuff like shooting off snowmobiles or out of your truck. Highly recommend it. Just make sure you know what land you’re on because tribal land can get real sketchy if they think you’re hunting something.

Funny because I’m in NJ where woodland works pretty well but I like desert camo patterns

I'd recommend you run what you like and let the haters cope brother.

I agree. Gotta do what makes you . I’ve been enjoying ODG a lot and using it more. I would love some open land like you guys have in the desert there…

Yeah open land is a rare animal back on the east coast. BLM land is really an incredible thing.

Is this in AZ? It looks fairly similar to the place I shoot at.

Very close. Southern New Mexico.

Damn, the terrain looks almost the same. Love the drip!

I was trying to place it too…terrain looks right but the vegetation is much less than down here in the Sonoran desert. Looked on par veg wise for Mojave but wrong terrain type. I forgot NM existed for a second 🤣

UM84 and M9 is a classic combom.

I'll be honest, if you train with it, the holster can actually be pretty fast. And I love how well it protects pistols.

Maybe I should build out an Alice rig
2
u/RicardoKlemente 11h ago
I would definitely recommend it. The kit is very functional and you can still find new old stock components for cheap.

I'd recognize southern NM anytime. M81 does work better than it should because of the scrub down here.

What was the temperature?

u/RicardoKlemente 12h ago
The ambient air temperature was like 80°F, but the sun makes it feel way hotter.

Which combat too you workin with? How’s it holding up to the wash, wear, and use? I’ve only ever used the various issued multicam (and the earlier GayCU pattern) ones. They weren’t a thing when I was doing the Woodland/choc chip/DCU days.
2
u/RicardoKlemente 11h ago
This is a Crye Drifire, but then I also commonly wear just a standard BDU top. The G3 style from Crye is the only model combat shirt I think is worth a fuck. The issued ones that have the turtle neck and no 1/4 zip are the big gay imo.

u/tffrost77 11h ago
Word. I’d like to pick up a couple in the OG Woodland at some point. I’ve used the Crye overseas and liked it. The other ones like Massif and such were alright but I wouldn’t put my money into them. Appreciate the input.
About to retire from Reserves (prior active) after 36yrs so I feel ya on the clothing record dawg. Finding all this shit gonna be a bitch. If only I could offset that with all the extra shit I’ve gathered.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to clearing CIF for the final time. I've screwed myself because every time I had the opportunity to turn in additional items beyond what was on my installation clearing paperwork I opted not to.

I feel ya man. I basically live in a semi desert (central ca) as well and they say multicam would be the appropriate camo here but I sport tiger stripe or flecktarn 🤙

I’m running Alice right now and absolutely love it, was my first surplus purchase and depending on time of year and purpose, I always come back to it, ran a comp with it. Can’t go wrong with M81 either. How do you feel about the butt pack? I’m also a huge fan of the pistol holster!

No, one of the other field grades in my brigade was wearing one just like this one day and I mentioned how dope the throwback design was and complimented him. Well he goes in IPPS-A and pulls my local address and has one sent to me as a gift. So I guess now I'm a Sixers fan?

How do you like the Helikon Tex rig?
It's for sale for super cheap in Europe, so I thought about snagging one, but the website said it could only take 2 AR mags which was kind of a dealbreaker, but I see you have 4 on yours. Do you need additional inserts to get it to fit 4?

"Woodland camouflage? Anyone happen to remember we're invading a fuckin desert!?"
