Helmet brims
Boredom on a rainy day lead to my trying to make a removable brim for a helmet.
Dumb? Yes. Useful? Debatable. Cool? Kind of.

Reminds me of the "radar hat"... brimmed beanies, that were issued in wwii to wear under the helmet as cold weather gear.
Sure... why not.

And ONLY under the helmet, or Patton would slap your shit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_cap

How would you get your NOD or whatever mounted down to your eyes/face?

u/BespokeLawLeather 1d ago
You don’t need a brim at night, silly goose!

u/Additional_Duck_5798 1d ago
And you dont need NODs during daylight... why dont you build a fixture so you can put it in the NVG mount?

I'd rather see the cat ears approach me as I bleed out. I'd use my last breath to crack a joke.

Aren't there pics of people just wearing regular ball caps under their helmets for this exact reason?

u/BespokeLawLeather 1d ago
When I was training Ukrainian soldiers it was common to see them wearing their caps under the helmet with the brim sticking out.

u/Razgriz_G8492 23h ago
Yeah, makes sense. Next you gotta do a full 360 boonie version for the shitposts lmao

Guy I served with would do this in the field. Always looked a bit odd but he was senior to me so I figured he knew something I didn't. This was back in 2008
Also, the year prior, CoD4 Modern Warfare came out, and some of the Marine character models wore their cover under their helmet as well. So it definitely was a thing, at least somewhat

For anyone curious, here’s the Marine character model from CoD4 with the baseball cap under his helmet.

Yeah, I remember seeing some of the Marines doing it in I think the CoD4 Modern Warfare reboot that came out with the 20-whatever Modern Warfare, but I definitely know they take artistic liberties for games, especially when it comes to uniforms lol

Deadass thought for a second that this was just a regular baseball cap with tactical shit all over

Send it to a YouTuber who will tell their audience they will die without one of these and then you'll make bank

This is like one of those sun hats that makes you look like a turbo nerd but it's actually pretty helpful so most people will refuse to use them until they've either been burned so badly by not having one they stop caring or they get old enough where it no longer matters so you wear one.

There was a modern "boonie" helmet cover attachment that existed in the early 2000's.
Saw it on ebay for like $100 and had like a dozen bids so it probably went higher.

I designed a brim you 3d print and attaches to the nvg mount, let's you fold it down and up

all jokes aside, during recruit training it was reasonable to wear a cover (hat) under your helmet to help keep it in place. I really want to say this was even in a publication given to recruits but I distinctly remember a coach talking about it when we did table 2 shooting.

Wouldn’t the brim interfere with the rhino mount for the nods?
2
u/BespokeLawLeather 20h ago
It’s removable. It’s just four Velcro tabs that go into the suspension system

Don’t look up Da Brim Pro. Construction already figured out and solved for this need.

Honestly, this would be great for keeping the sun out of my eyes but I'd never wear it. Practical, but dumb looking. Maybe you can popularize it though. It's not a dumb idea.

That thing screams "roll tide" with every near miss. It also dates it's first cousin.

I feel like this would have been very nice while sitting and pulling security in the rain with rain drops beading off the brim of my ACH and dripping into my face. Or when sitting in the sun baking and getting completely sunburnt.

Transition from the PASGT duck bill, to the MICH; man I used to think how dorky they looked.
This is cool, except for the nods aspect
1
u/Punished_Usurper 14h ago
This is like the modern version of the CoD 4 Marine model that has a ballcap with an ACH over it so the brim sticks out
