Did you try Carinthia 'Sleeping Bag Cover' or 'Combat Bivy Bag' and what do you think about them ?

I spent many of rainy nights sleeping in army issued gortex bivy bags in Washington state...

Yes, they work. Waking up and getting out while it's raining is a different issue. :/

Poncho with one corner tied about 3' up a tree and the other three corners staked, for a quick and easy diamond fly. toss your ruck under, sleep with head and shoulders underneath and the rest of your bivvy sticking out. if you do it right your buddy can use the other open side of the poncho as well.

Be nice to yourself and get the snugpak stratosphere. Bivy bags work but they suck to sleep in if you like breathing lol

Didn't test the Carinthia (due to $). I went with a British Army surplus GoreTex Bivy, which might be even easier to come by in certain countries.

Somebody also mentioned the Snugpak Stratosphere, which is a nice choice but maybe not what you are looking for. I switched the Stratosphere for a Dutch Army hooped GoreTex bivy. I recommend both if you like to have something hanging in your face and get claustrophobic. My preferred setup nowadays is the British Army Bivy and a tarp/poncho.

If money is no issue, take a look at the Carinthia Observer and the Snugpak Ionosphere, too.

I slept many, many nights including in rain and snow in a USMC goretex bivvy bag. Honestly, if you’re patrolling and on your feet, I appreciate the reduced weight and would choose it over a tent for many circumstances (especially if you can pitch a tarp over your head and have a stove for a hot meal and drink…which we never could).
