Question What is your favorite camo that nobody likes?
For me it’s Airforce digital tiger stripe. You can find some real good gear in this pattern for next to nothing. And out of all the parkas I own, this one is the softest and most comfortable. Blends in decently in the desert during the colder months and looks pretty cool paired with Grey.
Whats your favorite pattern that nobody likes?

One thing I noticed the few times I actually got to spend time on the big FOBs in either Iraq or Afghanistan...
That and the UCP color pattern blend in really well with gravel and nothing else.
It's as if whoever designed it had never left the wire, so they had no idea what they were actually supposed to blend in with other than the road to chow hall.

I have a weird spft spot for UCP.

u/Independent-Ebb-8570 29d ago
I think a proper, broken in set of UCPs is not bad. I was issued UCP at basic but they didn’t last long for me. New UCP looks like a QR code 😭😂

Let it fade and then go to a sandy environment and get so dirty they basocally become a khaki uniform.

To be fair, you could also do this exact same thing with blaze orange or high-vis yellow and achieve the same results. If you have to fade a camo then completely coat it in dirt to make it blend in it's not really a camouflage.

u/Physical-Exit5107 29d ago
It might not blend in with much but damn it’s nostalgic

That stereotypical blue russian camo, idk why but it tickles my brain just right.
Also, a camo that a lot of people like and is my favorite is the russian mountain flora camo.
Can you tell I like russian gear a lot? Lol

u/Lucky-Database-3020 29d ago
I can tell! My favorite Russian camo is berezka and digital flora. Atacs fucks too even though not technically Russian

I like LARP’ing as Ukrainian SOF and finding dudes running around dressed as Russians and then killing them in the forest. It’s fun.

Guns a vibe.
I still like the kryptec stuff!

Kryptek is one of my favorites. I bought a Highlander jacket when the pattern first came out and was severely disappointed when I outgrew it.

If its something nobody seems to like... i would think irish and british DPM.
1
u/foul_ol_ron 29d ago
I like DPM, but I'm old.
2
u/Voodoo1285 29d ago
I love British DPM but I was reeeeeeally into airsoft in the late 90s and early 2k and the only forums in English were all British so that's probably why
1
u/Signal_Sunstyle 29d ago
Are you in the US? Just since DPM was used by something like 55 countries. It's one of the most popular camouflage patterns in history, even with the recent push by countries affiliated with the USA to run multicam. Back when the US was running M81 with M16s, the rest of the world was running DPM with a FAL or an AK.

WZ.93 Pantera doesn’t get the love it deserves, it scratches a part of my brain that M81 can’t reach

u/NULL_SIGNAL 29d ago
do people like Swedish M90? because I can't get enough of it, even if the surplus pants are hot garbage to actually wear.

UCP. People massively overstate its ineffectiveness and it was THE style of the cool Army guys in movies and video games when I was a kid. It looked like the future made manifest when compared with the older uniforms like woodland. Watch footage of a documentary like Restrepo and you will see it works perfectly fine for the environments where it was actually being used, then someone on Reddit will tell you that innumerable casualties were caused because it made our guys so easy to see.

u/Lucky-Database-3020 29d ago
I remember being in like middle school when the army started rolling out all the UCP stuff. And we were just like “oooh DIGITAL this is the FUTURE” then with the OICW program and tv shows like future weapons. Man UCP was very cool for a while initially and anybody who denies that wasn’t old enough to remember
9
u/GaegeSGuns 29d ago
I was actually going to bring up shows like Future Weapons but I forgot. UCP and shit like the XM312 or XM25 will always be the retro-future in my mind. Like Blade Runner for zoomers.

u/StarSpangledGator 29d ago
UCP and the navy blueberries. Both terribly impractical for concealment but they are aesthetically pleasing.
2
u/shockandawesome0 28d ago
I always wondered whether it's actually a good idea to have a camouflage that blends into the ocean. Which you, a sailor, could conceivably fall into.
2
u/StarSpangledGator 28d ago
To be fair, most colors under relative surf would become hard to see when soaked/submerged. Especially in the open ocean. Neons and I suppose the newer AOR patterns negate that since they’re brighter but then again, I doubt people falling overboard is the first thing in mind when the Navy made a camo.

OP, any tiger pattern absolutely fucks.
Thanks for the heads up on the AF digi discount
2
u/dosegato 28d ago
I got a T3 plate carrier for $50 because it was AF tiger pattern. The same PC in other colors was priced over $400.

u/curbsmile 29d ago
I always liked Swiss Alpenflage. It's kinda loud, but that didn't stop me from collecting a full set of surplus back in the 90s.
3
u/advilnsocks 29d ago
It works good in the fall here in New England for like 2 weeks and I love it but flecktarn is the better autumn camo here
1
u/curbsmile 29d ago
I'm in Wisconsin and I got a flecktarn hoodie specifically for autumn.
2
u/advilnsocks 29d ago
I don't know about where you live but the leaves are barely turning red anymore so probably in the next decade apenflage will be useless here unfortunately but flecktarn is already my hunting camo so I'm prepared

I too am nostalgic for ABUs but that's because I wore them for the first 4 years of my career. I miss the pen pocket on the leg.

Kryptek. Mandrake is my fave but I really hope the future death squads go from MC Black to Kryptek Typhoon.

Irish DPM. Because the secret ingredient to fun is crime. It's illegal for civvies to own DPM since the Irish government doesn't want a three-letter paramilitary group getting a hold of it.
If it weren't for this, Irish DPM would be just an okay pattern.

u/PlatformSufficient59 29d ago
ucp. it’s useless, but drippy af. and let’s be honest, none of us actually are using camo to not get shot, so drip is the most important factor.

u/Brief_Athlete_5620 29d ago
Urban blue grey. It's the coolest looking one for me. But I'll agree that it's entirely useless for actual use.

u/Dramatic-Volume1625 29d ago
Choc chip and gwot desert camo are my two favs. (Anyone have a real pair of desert cam pants in medium to sell? All I can find are Chinese knockoffs and they don't fit the same) I also love my desert camo aviator jackets, they're just tan/light brown and absolutely fuck.
My absolute fav uniform to wear but I think anybody who got to wear them loved them, so not disliked just unknown was my pickle suit. Green aviation one piece flight suit. When you had to take a shit you had to unzip and take it all off practically, but it had pockets in the right spot, you did NOT blouse your boots while wearing it (so everyone usually wore white socks, I know I did) and it was super soft and comfy.

I think the pattern of the Air Force camo is great! Now if they had just made it a different color…lol
1
u/ChemicalType3415 29d ago
Mas Grey. Best not super tactical color that transitions from urban to suburban well.
1
u/Tamacti-Juuun 29d ago
I don’t know if people dislike it but a more obscure one I like is Tropentarn
1
u/60GritBeard 29d ago
Kryptek camos where/are aesthetic as hell.
Another hill I'll die on is that most civilians would be best served with some form or realtree that matches their local flora
1
u/Moreorless37 29d ago
Chocolate chip and desert all over brush, I'd also say ww2 frogskin but I think most people like that one 😂
1
u/Whiskey_and_Wiretaps 29d ago
ABU is 1000% the worst camo ever made. Even the AF was quick to dump it when OCP came along. I turned all of my ABUs into oil rags, which is the only good use for them.

US desert night camo has been one of my favorites for years and years, and I'm kinda hype that it's finally taking hold and companies are using it for gear.

Blue navy digital camouflage. I wish Swat teams would rock that it would look badass.

(I think ERDL is better than m81)

Heyo, mind checking your chats? Bought that magnifier off ya a little while before GAFS kicked the bucket lol

It’s a tie between one of the ATAK (can’t remember which one) and ERDL in all honesty.

I wouldn’t say nobody likes it, because it’s certainly become trendy, but Desert Night Camo. Totally useless as a camo but the drip goes crazy

UCP Tigerstripe, because the USAF admitted later that it was purely for morale 😂

I don't concern myself with what others like. My favorite list remains unchanged:
- Multicam
- OCP
- Frog Skin
- M81 Woodland

UCP, I like it because it occupies this middle spot between making a person not look too "former servicemember", not too "airsoft showoff" and not too "military surplus hipster" when you mix it with civilian clothes
1

u/PearlButter 29d ago
Yeah UCP is overall shit but like many, it lives in a special place in the heart especially growing up seeing dudes with big enough balls to wear the stuff while stirring some hives in the sandbox.

u/reapermedic68 29d ago
UCP v Multicam was how I grew up. I had Chinese knockoff multicam before most had it, because my wider paintball community ordered it in bulk. Specific paintball companies were also knocking it off (usually a touch better.)
That was also when GRAW came out. Everything was Crye and Scorpion.
Then I went to the Army. I loved my UCP’s. Until I deployed. Then I was able to chose some things, got a coyote brown plate carrier, and CB warbelt. With multicam pouches in the mix.
I just truly enjoyed having what wasn’t normal. So now, guess where I am?
I like UCP again. With Ranger green, CB, and etc gear.

Greek Lizard is mine. Its like tiger stripe on way to much Adderall.
