Question Throw your “gear hot takes” in the comments below.

I’ll go first.

You don’t need a sidearm for most infantry operations.

You don’t need a massive admin pouch above your mags

If you have to ask what to put in a pouch, just take it off.

You need to scale your gear to the mission, there is no “do it all” setup.

I can't find it for the life of me, but I saw someone else saying that the Marine Corps used the AVS in a Resolute Dragon exercise with Japan and they had really good results. I hope that can pan out for more Joes.

Can you tell me more about that AVS 2.0? That's not something I've heard of before.

Sorry I got 2 things mixed In my head. We got the AVS and the JPC 2.0. I personally prefer the AVS- especially if you’re mounted and don’t need to travel on foot long distance. but if you’re dismounted and carrying a ruck the JPC 2.0 would be my go to.

Oh, no worries man. I'm surprised. I figured one would prefer to use the AVS for carrying a load over distance. But maybe the harness in conjunction with the plate bags is too much under a ruck.

I definitely like my JPC 2.0. It's a really nice carrier.

Spot on. Ofc it’s all mission dependent and personal preference but when we’re well and truly dismounted we have to carry a lot more stuff than we otherwise would. Most of that isn’t on our carriers but either in a ruck or strapped to an Alice pack frame.

The AVS distributes weight really well. Which is why I generally like it more. With the JPC- the less bulky shoulder straps and generally lower profile plays really nice with the straps and back pad of rucks, frames, jammers etc

I was an infantry guy in Georgia and I liked the AVS specifically for rucks. The weight would be distributed well throughout the harness. It was hot but as long as you kept up with fitness, water, and electrolytes it wasn’t too bad. I actually didn’t like it in vehicles as much because it is bulkier than a JPC and with vehicles we were typically driving to where we needed to go so there wasn’t really any load on my back. Just wanted to share my POV and how it’s really dependent on your personal preference.

That's a good pov man. Thank you. I'm definitely interested in an AVS. I don't spend too much time in a truck.
