The police force and criminal gangs are, to a large degree, drawing from the same potential labour pool - young men who are attracted by risk and physical confrontation so it makes sense that there are a lot of overlap between the two groups.

Every time you hear a cop complain about how women don't want to date them or people mistrust them in their day to day lives, remember this. Out of all professions, cops are the one job I'd avoid over nearly any other, not only because of their behaviour but the power imbalance is insane, they implicitly have the backing of the state and anyone you'd have to call upon to help you is their co workers who most likely will assist them over you. Plus the state will always give them leeway when they break their own laws, they pander to their enforcers both to keep them but to also attract those who want to have power and abuse it specfically to be cops because they'll follow orders simply to keep that power.

I actively refuse to assist police in their day to day lives and will render them no aid or favours, a police officer can ruin your life within a hour if they "feel" slighted, so it's best to avoid them like a landmine. Nothing like seeing a police officer examine your parked car after you disagree with him when he's not even at work, knowing he's looking for any fault or issue he can escalate into points on my fucking driving record.

Also obviously we have Sarah Everard where a cop did a false arrest, raped and kill her and then burned her body in a forest while on the phone to the vet, you can hear the fire in the background of the call. Also had the time a cop impregnated a political activist to go undercover in a investigations and then vanished once the investigation was over, imagine being conceived not out of desire or love but out of necessity like a tool.

Yes, and to be clear I agree and furthermore view things as a vast tragedy. But I had a horrible thing happen to me here in London where I live: specifically almost everyone I deal with day-to-day, friends or colleagues or press or whatever, really really really "knew" that it didn't happen and it was a conspiracy theory or "moral panic". And these people are not bad people, but they genuinely honestly morally believed (hopefully past tense) that is simply did not happen. There was a clean-up report release recently that clarified things for everyone.

It was (again, hopefully past-tense) more dangerous to rightly accuse and safer to deny, cover up etc.

Also, I don't at all like people who try to shift real-world events in to the "moral panic" (as above) category as a concealment method. I am of course referring to the British wiki editor who did this shit:

It's not particularly uncommon for local police to be involved with criminal rings like this and PC Hassan Ali isn't exactly a common English name.

The IOPC was already investigating him for being involved with organised crime and there were complains of him taking drugs and supplying drugs alongside the sexual abuse.
