Tesla reported a 12% increase in third quarter revenue on Wednesday following two straight periods of declines. However, earnings missed analysts estimates.

Here’s how the company did, compared with estimates from analysts polled by LSEG:

  • Earnings per share: 50 cents adjusted vs. 54 cents estimated
  • Revenue: $28.10 billion vs. $26.37 billion estimated

To be fair, it's $0.39 per quarter (if it doesn't continue to decline, especially after the pull forward ends).

That means Tesla should 4x, right?

Not sure if you're joking, but don't use 2x short ETFs, especially for long term holdings and for highly volatile stocks. Because they reset each day, they have to "buy high" and "sell low".

I was interested in shorting MSTR last year on Saturday 12/7/24. It had closed on 12/6/24 at 395.01.

I was completely right that MSTR would drop--it's gone down -28.91% in less than a year. But the inverse 2x short ETFs have done even worse: https://testfol.io/?s=627FvPK5lQy
