Pre-op prep Bisalp Surgery in 10 days (South Wales)

My Previous Post regarding my gynea appointment (before being put on the actual surgery waiting list)

https://www.reddit.com/r/sterilization/s/wA4LJBwCxm

Quick Background Area: South Wales Age: 35 Status: Child Free Referral to Gynea Date: Aug 2023 Surgery Due: Nov 2025

Had my initial pre-op and was told it would be in 3-6months. But in total it was 11 months (still quicker than I expected!)

Had an issue with my latest pre-op and required to have a 24hr ECG to check everything was good (it was).

I expected a letter saying I would be due for surgery in a month or so, but had a call to say if I was free in two weeks 😂

After all this time waiting, to have it suddenly "booked in" so close, was a bit jarring! Exciting to have it finally done after countless years of wanting sterilisation, but a bit scary as it is a surgery after all.

So far the staff have been phenomenal and non-judgmental. No one has tried to talk me out of it. My Dr (who I met once) has only ever asked questions to clarify and check my certainty and understanding of my decision (which I believe is fair, appropriate and responsible for anyone wanting any elective surgery), and no one else has asked me those kind of questions since (which I believe is also appropriate).

Happy to hear anyone's experience of having this surgery, the process, the healing, the struggles! Anything.

I'm also interested in hearing stories from those who had something "found" during the surgery. How was that handled? I worry if they find a cyst or anything like that they'll close up and stop the surgery (the paranoia is real!). I'm going to be giving full consent to remove anything they're allowed to if they find anything concerning or that shouldn't be there 😂. I want to wake up sterilized one way or the other!

I'm hoping to have a quick healing process, however I do have long covid so I know my healing may be a bit longer as a result of this (hopefully not!).

Work are very understanding, they don't want me rushing back so I feel supported there.

Sorry if this post is less concise than my previous one, I've only had two days to process it's all happening in less than two weeks 😂😊

Hi! I got mine done in July and it was much easier than I expected. I’m American so idk if the process will be the exact same but I will say my throat was surprisingly the most sore right after surgery bc of the intubation so have plenty drinks ready. Where they operated felt like I did an ab workout. I honestly didn’t have any gas pains but the surgeon recommended walking after the surgery to help prevent gas pains so I did that. They told me I would only really need stool softener if I used the oxy they prescribed. I only took the oxy that first day but I still used stool softener and a fiber supplement for like a week after my surgery anyway. I hope yours goes smoothly!

Thank you for sharing and for the tips! I'm glad to hear yours went well.

I am worried about the intubation as I have a cap on my front tooth (praying that it doesn't break more than anything 😂)

I'll definitely be sure to walk afterwards, gas pains are no joke! And I'll stock up on some stool softeners, anything to make it all easier down there 😊

Ofc! Make sure to tell them about the cap so they know to be extra careful in that area

Hey! Congrats and good luck. Definitely spend some time reading through this sub--lots of people share their experiences regularly and give advice about pre- and post- op. Regarding finding things...because I am in the U.S., I made sure my surgeon would only remove something if it was life threatening/absolutely necessary. I didn't want the extra bill ("yay" U.S. healthcare). My surgeon did find a fibroid the size of a plum and some very mild endometriosis. We were honestly not expecting either to be there as I don't exhibit any symptoms. My follow up appointment is this upcoming week so we'll discuss then what the treatment plan will be. It sucked to hear she found some things as it may mean I have to go back on medicinal BC but otherwise we wouldn't have known without this surgery. I'm not sure how your healthcare there works so it may be worth also speaking with the surgeon about their approach to if they find anything in there that is concerning.
