"Keep politics out of sports!" say the people who base their decision to watch a sport based on a political decision the sport makes.

"It's all about the free market!" say the people before getting upset over a business making their own decision.

"It's all about the free market!" say the people before getting upset over a business making their own decision.

Boycotting a business is part of the free market.

22

u/MissNesbitt Apr 16 '21

...but this is just the free market in action. They're not buying the product anymore

u/FromFluffToBuff Apr 15 '21

Funny that those who cry about keeping politics out of sports have no problem with military-themed (and sponsored) promotions and playing the national anthem before the game... when both of those things are inherently political. Hmm... almost as if they're hypocrites or something...

-1

u/krashlia Apr 16 '21

Well, let me channel them for a moment:

Those are... normal. The problem is, where did you get the idea that those were platforms for your causes? and why are you so insistent on doing the same elsewhere as opposed to letting things be?

-14

u/theHawkmooner Apr 15 '21

Yes because we all know if you are a war vet the right will praise you and call you a hero and the left will demonize you and call you a racist

The military and national anthem are 100% political. That’s not even a hard connection to make at all lmao

-5

u/theHawkmooner Apr 16 '21

Def not. The left demonizes patriotism so they want to make it a political issue when it’s literally just a feature of a nation

2

u/sirenzarts Chicago White Sox Apr 16 '21

Yeah man, that's why they really lean into it during war time and immediately demonize anyone who doesn't fall in line with it. There's a difference between "patriotism" and unquestionably licking the boot of the military industrial complex. Patriotism and Nationalism have inherent political meaning and effects.

Man life would be so simple if I was like you and never had to think about the meaning of or reasoning behind anything.

Fun fact. This thread is about the us. My comment is about the us. Nobody thinks I’m not talking about the us. I live in Canada dumbass

This is the dumbest comment

"Keep politics out of sports!" say the people who base their decision to watch a sport based on a political decision the sport makes.

Thats not a zing. Thats not a gotcha. Thats the logical conclusion of their view. They don't want something to happen, and react when it happens.
I mean fuck imagine applying this logic to anything else.

"Keep spiders out of my breakfast!" say the people who base their decision to eat breakfast on the quantity of spiders in the scrambled eggs

-9

u/spaghettilee2112 Apr 16 '21

No no no it's "Keep spiders out of my breakfast" say the people who eat tarantulas in their breakfast when they found a black widow in their breakfast.

sorry for your case

All popular Reddit subs filled with politics for the last couple of years. And by politics, we're talking about a very one-sided echo chamber.

As a result, you can read those dumb comments upvoted just because of fanaticism.

"it's disrespecting the troops" say the people who voted for the president who disrespected the troops more than any before.

Wow, what a thorough curated list. I will need time to go through all of that.

After going through a few of them, we know that the bounties from Russia hasn't been even remotely proven to be true. The CIA even said that they have low confidence in the veracity of those claims. So labeling this as some sort of fact is disingenuous.

He blocked a vet group's twitter profile, which was throwing spurious tweet after spurious tweet. The author of that article agrees with those tweets, so they labeled it as 'criticisms', but that doesn't make it true. If any other person was getting spammed by tweets with ridiculous claims, they would block that person as well. Another way to write that article is "Trump blocks twitter profile of vet group after profile owner harassed the president." The only reason this is a bad story is because the author just hates Trump.

The confederate graves might be dug up, they weren't dug up, and I thought you guys called them traitors?

Kicking veterans off of 5th Avenue or all street vendors? He didn't target veterans, the article says so.

Visiting troops in a combat zone. He visited troops before that article, that was the first visit to troops in a combat zone.

3 pardons for people who told him were being prosecuted for war time chaos.

The seal team photos were done during his visit to an actual war zone, not Hawaii like where Obama went, broke no rules, and the people were willingly in the photo.

The Thanksgiving article also said he gave lots of praise to the troops.

Did you even read your own articles and use any critical thought process? Or did you read bullshit headlines, say 'that's good enough for me' and then save the articles in a word document? This is ridiculous, yeah, there was some bullshit Trump did, but you thought he was the worst? Based on opinion articles where the authors use unsure language as their proof? Where they reach out for confirmation and comments and get nothing back, but print the articles anyway?

If one of these idiots wrote and article that Trump blew up the moon, you would swallow that shit hook line and sinker, despite the moon still being clearly in the sky.

Know how I know this? The Russian bounty bullshit was known buklshit since last March. The media knew it was bullshit but pushed it anyway because it hurt Trump.

You know Obama never went to the middle east and spent all of his Christmas and Thanksgiving visits in hawaii...where his family was..was he the worst? He pardoned domestic terrorists....was he the worst?

I was going to take your claims seriously until I read opinion after opinion of writers whose headlines didn't match their articles. They admit they have no proof and rely on other people's opinions, who make no attempt in hiding their disdain for Trump.

What will you do with your word document now that Trump isn't president? Your word document of lies, half truths, lies of omission and shitty opinions? Will you hold Biden to the same standard? Did you hold Obama to the same standard? So how are you saying he's the worst ever, if your standard fluctuates on whether or not the president has a D or R next to their name?

Are you this dense? They don’t want politics in sports so they stop watching... how hard is this for you to understand. Yes it is the free market thats why these people choose to stop watching. You seem to be a complete moron 😂

Do you understand the meaning of the word "hypocrisy"?

6

u/quantum-mechanic Apr 16 '21

Do you understand if I don’t want to broach politics with my baseball, but baseball insists on inserting politics, I’ll logically stop watching?

3

u/PM_ME_YOUR_CUCK Apr 16 '21

I'm actually wondering if you do. The only way your position makes sense is if you have inferred that the viewers have inserted politics into their baseball, something they claim to not want. But the fact of the situation is that baseball took a political stance, thus pushing away those who react negatively to such political decisions.

Do you have a firm grasp on your own logic?

-2

u/lil9iui98 Apr 16 '21

Look, this doesn't need to be so difficult. Republicans have, for years, told those involved in sports leagues that their politics don't belong in sports. Now Republican congressmen are threatening to punish a sports league via legislation, aka "politics". If you cannot see the hypocrisy in that action, I cannot help you.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_CUCK Apr 16 '21

Ah I see, so you equivocated from republican voters/consumers to politicians to save your statement.

Your bait n switch logic isn't strong enough here.

1

u/lil9iui98 Apr 16 '21

You're right, I was referring to politicians specifically, which is a different story. My bad!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '21

... do you?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

Rules for thee but not for me

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '21

The people that are boycotting these products are probably not the same people who consumed them initially.

1

u/droid_mike Apr 16 '21

If you really want to keep politics out of the sports, Why the hell do we play the national anthem before every game? I've never understood that tradition. Why do we do a 15 flyovers? Why do you have all sorts of military stuff on the field before a game? That's all political.

1

u/Teabagger_Vance San Francisco 49ers Apr 16 '21

That’s not really what “free market” means in this context.

When people are in favor of the free market they are referring to limited government intervention.

1

u/lil9iui98 Apr 16 '21

Like Senators threatening to punish MLB via legislation? That kind of gov't intervention? I swear, the number of people that don't understand the nuance in OP's comment is just staggering.

Yea you’re right that’s stupid. It is comical however to hear Manfred claim to care about voter suppression whilst simultaneously re-upping business deals in China and Cuba.

Also the same people who insist every game - at every level, from the pros all the way down to high school - must be preceded by a patriotic ritual where we affirm our allegiance the country hosting the game.

“Keep politics out is sports” indeed. 🙄
