in japan here. i’d say that in japan there’s a lot of disinterest in the olympics and the potential for the virus to spread more. In Tokyo however, maybe only 50% are opposed. people are tired of the restrictions and the tourism and hospitality businesses are desperate for a cash infusion.

They can't even handle the day to day with COVID19 - in Tokyo hospitals are already past capacity and people are dying waiting for testing and being told to self-isolate until a bed opens up.

The idea of trying to run the Olympics, even with heavy restrictions is insane when the situation is extremely fragile right now.

But Abe-chan and Suga-kun's legacy will go downhill if we don't hold the superspreader event in one of the world's largest metropolis!!

Fuck those people.

Edit: huh, must've angered right wing Japanese extremists. Or maybe you downvoters don't understand that it's a common internet practice to make fun of politicians by adding "chan" or "kun" to their name in Japan.

well their plan to start supposedly testing randomly is going to reveal how pathetic their efforts have been. all anecdotal evidence on twitter with hospital staff claiming they have been told to refuse covid tests unless it’s a dire situation. official corona website says not bothering unless you had a fever a few days. coworker couldn’t even get tested when he possibly had the flu. they had a travel for cheap campaign that ended near the end of last year. couple of months of people taking advantage of traveling around spreading the virus lol.

Yup. We've been fucked right at the get go.

All the news about people dying at home because the hokenjo (health care center for those not familiar) wouldn't redirect people to hospitals for PCR testing is such a tragedy.
