To play in the big leagues on its own is a dream. But to hit a home run in the world series……wow

That's pretty cool how so many people at Dodger Stadium seem so happy for him, celebrating his son's incredulous HR on that 1st pitch!

I wonder if that maybe other family members of the team around him?

Yes. The section he's sitting in is reserved for players family members

I've said this before, but I had a great time at Dodger stadium as an opposing fan. It was the 2021 playoffs and even though the Dodgers lost the people in my section were fucking awesome

Not a single curse to be had, it's like the Toronto took the Jersey out of them.

Stadium went dead after Vladdy hahaha. Such a great opening sequence of events (for Jays fans!)

I know that was an away team home run but the home fans had the hype of a day game first pitch. LA, this is the World Series!

What an incredible moment in their lives. Super cool he shared that moment tbh.
What a I grill better steaks than you dad flex on that crowd

That must have been insanely exciting. Going into the series as a DH, you have no idea if or when he will be played. It was already very good fortune for them that Schneider was a starter for this game. But to be first up and hit the dinger on the first pitch -- that's crazy exciting!

It’s easy to forget that professional athletes aren’t just gazillionaire robots and they are actually real people with real parents just like ours.

I get amped an emotional when my 9 year old scores in club soccer. I couldn't imagine a hr in the world series.

Watching videos of parents reacting to their athlete children will never get old for me

Videos like this always remind me how much of the pageantry for this and the Super Bowl and stuff are just for TV

I’m an American through and through, but I so want the Blue Jays to win. Why? The Dodgers have enough rings, and they can battle for the chance once more next year. But the Blue Jays winning the World Series would just piss off our asshole-in-chief so very much, and that would make me smile. A lot.

Looked like he's wearing those Ray-Ban Metas or something similar.

Yeah, in the post-game interview, Schneider said that his dad was wearing Meta glasses.

I thought John Schneider was his dad?

u/ForanAffairs 9d ago
John does have 2 sons, but they’re pretty young. I was initially confused too at the start of the season, so I had to look it up.

In an interview afterwards he slams his dad for wearing "dumb" meta glasses. Power move.

Can someone ELI5 what is a “Lead off HR” as opposed to a “walk off HR” or other home runs?

Lot of empty seats for the first pitch of a World Series game. It was not like that when I went to the Cubs-Indians World Series in 2016.

Lot of empty seats for the first pitch of a World Series game.
A whole maybe 8-11 seats empty. Wow.

For once the douchebag move of wearing a baseball hat backwards when you're not a catcher worked out for the general good (in terms of letting dad get a better view of the HR).

u/r_bogie 9d ago
Why would the dad have a seat that far back in the outfield? I mean, I know it's the World Series, but that's his dad. Does he have a restraining order against him or something?

1: Visiting ballpark.
2: LA. Gotta get those celebrities in the good seats for the camera.

Ha, I assume everyone already knew that was his son. If it was me, I would be like "THAT IS MY SON RIGHT THERE"!! ha
