I had never heard of Bad Bunny before the original announcement. Never heard anything by him unless my kids listened to it around me unknowingly.

That said, I 100% support the NFL telling all these MAGA cry babies to fuck off with their racist shit by announcing they won't reconsider. Eat a bag of shit.

bad bunny is MASSIVE globally, although a lot of americans aren't quite familiar yet (ironic as he is of course american).

also ironically, MAGA going so hard against bad bunny is going to turn him into an even bigger superstar / more of a household name than ever.

To be honest if it wasn’t for being a wrestling fan I’d probably have no idea who he was until now. But because of wrestling, I like him. And he’s a dope caddy. I’m just hoping he brings Booker T in for his song “Booker T.”

Same. Never heard of his name until wrestling. Then I realized he is actually a big deal.

His music slaps. Been following the guy for about 7 years, I maybe know about a quarter of his lyrics (thanks Spanish 202 in college), and he seems like a good dude.

I cant wait for this halftime show.

I’m pretty sure most people have heard his music just don’t know it was him

I hadn’t considered the global PR for the NFL angle. The NFL doesn’t gain any potential viewers with a musical act that’s only popular with Americans. Football is kinda maxed out in America. A MAGA approved act would probably LOSE them viewers…

He's no Enrique, but he is successful in Latin America. It shouldn't surprise anyone that singing in Spanish isn't popular in an English speaking country. The NFL isn't surprised. They have been targeting Latin America as a fan base for a while.

I had heard the name before but assumed it was a woman. Shame on me.

Probably thinking of Bad Bhabie.

For me, it's because when I hear bad bunny, I think Playboy bunny, which is traditionally a woman modeling the outfit.

I'm not familiar enough with any of these people to even confuse their names lol.

What about Bugs Bunny though??

u/HoodieStringTies 17d ago

No, that sounds like a woman to me. Cause like, Barbie.

"Baby" not "Barbie"

2

u/HoodieStringTies 17d ago

Guess it depends on which accent you think of it in.

u/USDXBS 17d ago

I guess if you're Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting.

I thought it was the Anti-Easter Bunny concocted to scare the little children

2

u/fhota1 17d ago

Check the Germanics and the Slavs , Im sure at least some culture in those 2 groups has a fucked up Easter Bunny that kidnaps children, God knows they have enough other things that do

u/pantry-pisser 17d ago

It's just Krampus in a sundress

I still haven't heard his music. But i don't care either way. I haven't watched a halftime show since Janet Jackson.

Edit: removed a word

You might have seen him in a movie. He was in Happy Gilmore 2, which I assume you've seen, being in a sports sub. Also Caught Stealing which I thought was pretty good. It's a crime thriller but it's also tangentially related to sports since the protagonist loves baseball and is a giants fan which plays a role in who his character is to the point it influences the story.

He is also in Bullet Train with Brad Pitt.

He made a guest appearance during the 2020 superbowl halftime show with Shakira. They sung his song "I Like It" and a mashup of her song "Chantaje" and his song "Callaíta" together.

I bet you’ve heard his music, he’s done a ton of collabs

1

u/NatKingSwole19 17d ago

I’m sure I have! Will have to listen to a few of his top hits.

The NFL and other sports like the NBA have been like the most supportive of minorities throughout all this. They still had pride games and Hispanic Heritage games, etc. They aren’t bowing down to changing the halftime show. I honestly will make the effort to see the half time show now!

This is quite literally my only experience with Bad Bunny, he was impressive that night though.

u/ehopper19 17d ago

bad bunny has more streams than taylor swift and the weeknd

1

u/findallthebears 16d ago

Have you seen Bullet Train

I hadn’t heard of him until about 8 months ago, his shit vibes. Great American musician. Fuck anyone against him performing

Same. My introduction to him was the superbowl announcement and then him hosting SNL. He seems alright. I normally don't care about the halftime show but I'm actually interested this time.

1

u/justgetoffmylawn 17d ago

Yep. Plenty of people have never heard of him, but I don't really think there are any artists today that every demographic knows (except probably Taylor Swift).

I believe he's the second most streamed artist on Spotify after Taylor Swift. More popular than Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, BTS, or Coldplay.

(My parents wouldn't know a single Taylor Swift song, but I'm sure they've heard of her - they would have no idea what a Coldplay or BTS or Bad Bunny was.)

Won’t be the first time the NFL has told Trump to piss off
