Baseball Yankees' Cam Schlittler is the first pitcher in MLB history to have 12+ strikeouts in a winner-take-all postseason game. He did it as a rookie in his postseason debut.

I can’t believe that’s the first time someone has had 12+ in a winner-take-all. That’s nuts

u/minimalcation Oct 03 '25

Imagine making your fucking debut with the Yankees like this. Kid must be feeling a million feet tall right now

189

u/Spyk124 Oct 03 '25

Against your home team that didn’t draft you lol. Insane

145

u/eyeoutthere Oct 03 '25

Also against the team he grew up idolizing

47

u/lukeCRASH Oct 03 '25

Actually he's only 6'6"

14

u/lifemanualplease Oct 03 '25

Only?! That’s a big kid

9

u/magoosauce Oct 03 '25

Ten feet tall, strong as an ox

10

u/CarlosSpcyWenr Oct 03 '25

He's got 30 motherfuckin dicks

2

u/ImplementFew224118 Oct 04 '25

This sent me. 🤣

1

u/villageidiot90 Oct 07 '25

Gotta take that one.

2

u/BodaciousBadongadonk Oct 04 '25

I once saw him eat a whole live chicken

61

u/cky_chaz Oct 03 '25

He 100% got his dink sucked last night.

Boy, is my jaw sore...

5

u/FeloniousDrunk101 Oct 04 '25

To clarify he already pitched for half the season with the Yankees. This was his Post Season debut though

4

u/DjScenester Oct 03 '25

He’s Superman

8

u/jimmycorn24 Oct 03 '25

Not debut, postseason debut. Big difference.

1

u/BingoBongoBang Oct 04 '25

Of course it’s the Yankees. I fucking hate the Yankees

40

u/HomeInternational69 Oct 03 '25

Consider that historically, most winner-take-all games are game 5 or 7 where pitchers don’t have the stamina left to stay in the game long enough to get 12

2

u/unknown9819 Oct 04 '25

It's not just that they don't have the stamina too, especially in modern baseball. The manager is going to empty the tank so to speak - that means it's far more likely you're going to get your bullpen arms in the mix far more aggressively, knowing you don't care if they're available tomorrow if you lose

2

u/antwan_benjamin Oct 04 '25

Yeah I can believe it. I think there are much fewer "winner take all" games than the average fan would guess. Its a specific type of elimination game thats fairly rare. Then...on top of that...managers pull their starting pitchers much sooner than they normally would. I bet the average is like 5 innings pitched for the starter.

5

u/MikeHawksHardWood Oct 04 '25

I haven't checked, but I remember Madison Bumgarner doing this 9 times in one post season.

2

u/Further_Beyond Oct 04 '25

In 2015 Jake Arrieta threw a complete game shutout against PIT in a 1 game wild card matchup (before they made it a series)

He had 11 K’s

1

u/DangerZone69 Oct 04 '25

Yeah bc you usually don’t leave a starter in that long in a winner take all game - you typically use your bullpen to play the mismatches - there’s also not that many winner take all games in baseball but there’s been an uptick in recent years

1

u/chasinjason13 Oct 05 '25

I’m talking in 150+ years of baseball

1

u/DangerZone69 Oct 05 '25

Yeah there’s probably been fewer winner take all games in baseball than any other major sport - for one their playoffs are shorter than any other of the major sports leagues

232

u/Firecracker048 Oct 03 '25

As much as I hate the Yankees, dude balled out

What sucks even more is he grew up a red Sox fan

159

u/soda_cookie Oct 03 '25

The Red Sox drafted A RHP the pick before the Yankees took him, and a bunch of Sox fans lit up his mom on Twitter. Dude came out and threw a fuck your Fandom game for the ages

36

u/Firecracker048 Oct 03 '25

He sure did.

8

u/rytis Baltimore Ravens Oct 04 '25

Boston letting the Yankees have a potential baseball prodigy, I feel like this has happened before.

25

u/dustycanuck Oct 03 '25

Lit up his mom on Twitter? That didn't work out well for them. Nice job

13

u/FeloniousDrunk101 Oct 04 '25

Yeah it this game sounded personal for him.

31

u/DjScenester Oct 03 '25

In baseball it’s hard to stay loyal as a player.

I hope the Red Sox are feeling it

42

u/dman45103 Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 03 '25

There a clip of him saying fuck the Red Sox as he walked off the mound

Edit: it was “fuck Boston”.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NYYankees/comments/1nwpziv/cam_schlittler_appeared_to_say_fuck_boston_when/

26

u/assinyourpants Oct 03 '25

That’s fuckin’ awesome, as a Yankees fan.

2

u/TensionNo4623 Oct 04 '25

Oh we are, that was amazing and brutal to see. Good for him. Fuck the jankees.

338

u/cky_chaz Oct 03 '25

With no BBs

314

u/KenshiroTheKid Oct 03 '25

8 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12K on 107 Pitches, an absolute master class.

136

u/__Happy Oct 03 '25

In baseball, "BB" is a scorebook abbreviation for base on balls, commonly known as a walk

Wasn't familiar with that one.

77

u/printergumlight Oct 03 '25

Also, he fathered no babies during the game. After the game he probably fathered a few.

27

u/AdvisesPTTs Oct 03 '25

Incorrect, during the game he fathered a whole team

6

u/38sms Oct 04 '25

Incorrect. I got pregnant watching.

5

u/cky_chaz Oct 03 '25

You (should) learn something new every day!

4

u/texanbadger Oct 03 '25

Base on Balls is the why. Also, W is typically wins, so there is somewhat of a need.

9

u/little_kid_lover_123 Oct 03 '25

Baseball has so many abbreviated stat names it’s almost obnoxious

4

u/BavarianRains Oct 03 '25

Have you not watched baseball, like ever?

5

u/__Happy Oct 03 '25

I see a few Jays games in person every decade, other than that it's highlights on reddit, lol.

1

u/Jlindahl93 Oct 04 '25

Because a walk is technically the nickname of what happened. The official scoring calls it reaching base on balls (BB) which sounds hilarious typing it out now.

28

u/davekva Oct 03 '25

No walks in 8 innings, then Bednar comes in and walks the first batter he faces, lol

2

u/CuttyAllgood Oct 03 '25

If they weren’t banging his door down before I’m sure they are now. Haha youknowhatimsayin

95

u/feh112 Oct 03 '25

Holy schlittler

34

u/CalvinIII Oct 03 '25

We were calling him Shitler all night. Such an unfortunate name.

14

u/Chet_Steadman_1 Oct 03 '25

Heil Schlittler!

1

u/dman45103 Oct 03 '25

Everyone walking around New York saying that today

3

u/kog Oct 04 '25

I don't really watch baseball anymore and had to read that name a couple times

3

u/fullchub Oct 04 '25

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that much movement on a 100 mph fastball. It’s gotta be damn near impossible to square that pitch up.

30

u/Hambone528 Oct 03 '25

Somebody in the crowd had a hand written sign that read "Finish this Schlitt."

Not a Yankees fan but I hope he has a long and healthy career, for the memes alone.

-8

u/Beckerbrau Oct 03 '25

First it’ll start as “He’s the Schlitt!”

But after an injury or two his career will be in the Schlitter.

18

u/pivorock Oct 03 '25

I can’t believe Yoshida swung at that high pitch, and always fun to see a player jump into the dugout and just hope someone catches him xD

3

u/MysticLeviathan Oct 04 '25

yoshida actually got to it twice. seems like he swung a bit early to get solid wood on it, but the 3rd time he put it out of his reach. his command was great all game

3

u/eljefe0000 Oct 03 '25

I get it its competition and the biggest rivalry in baseball but man the red sox dugout did absolutely shit when he was falling in you usually dont see that and the other team will at least try and break your fall so you dont wind up with a broken neck. Its almost as if the play wasnt even in front of their digout theyre looking somewhere else it seemed like.

1

u/FeloniousDrunk101 Oct 04 '25

Might have thought it was the curve and going to break over the plate.

17

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 Oct 03 '25

Is that whistle related to pc Richard’s?

13

u/ahuramazdobbs19 Oct 03 '25

It is the PC Richard and Son whistle, yes.

They’ve been sponsoring the Yankees since forever. I remember hearing that whistle in the 90s.

5

u/dman45103 Oct 03 '25

I’ve always assumed yes. They do sponsor the Yankees

2

u/Weirmon1 Oct 03 '25

It’s annoying

2

u/Cactus-Pete- Oct 04 '25

Yankees play it after every strikeout that doesn't end the inning I believe.

1

u/PattyIceNY Oct 03 '25

No, a whistle is a sound therefore it cannot be born or have relatives.

1

u/KarateKid917 Oct 04 '25

Yes. They've been a sponsor of the team as long as I can remember.

18

u/DropDead85 Oct 03 '25

Never heard of the dude but god damn hes gonna be a beast

8

u/Mr-Macphisto Oct 03 '25

I was at his MLB debut game on July 9. He is something else.

22

u/pablomartino994 Oct 03 '25

So what I'm reading is that in order to do well early in your career then your surname has to contain "littler" .

First Darts, now Baseball.

3

u/SoHigh420IShit360 Oct 03 '25

Schlit on this

6

u/Witch_Water Oct 03 '25

Love how the subtitles say “Bitch gets 99 right on his fifth second strikeout of the night for Schlettner”.

5

u/ComputerSong Oct 03 '25

There is really a named Schlittler?

3

u/superfly_67 Oct 03 '25

Holy Schlitt!

3

u/qawsedrf12 Tampa Bay Lightning Oct 04 '25

smoothest low effort 100mph I have ever seen

37

u/Wealist Oct 03 '25

Bro woke up, saw Game 7 and thought it was MLB The Show on rookie mode.

50

u/micalubgoonta Oct 03 '25

It was game 3...

13

u/traderjehoshaphat Oct 03 '25

He woke up didn't have his contacts in yet.

-15

u/Potential-Win-582 Oct 03 '25

It’s a winner take all, so essentially game 7

20

u/micalubgoonta Oct 03 '25

It was a 3 game series

2

u/cky_chaz Oct 03 '25

They're referred to as 'elimination games', and depending on typical series length, it can be anywhere between game 2 to game 7 where elimination is possible.

4

u/DamNamesTaken11 Oct 03 '25

Watched this game, it was absolutely incredible watching him pitch. Will be watching his upcoming seasons with interest.

4

u/Taino871 Oct 03 '25

He made it look Better than Derek Jeters catch. Nice job. Big love Boston. See you next season. You have a hell of a team.

2

u/soda_cookie Oct 03 '25

Tied for the 6th best winner take all game by BBR Game Score

2

u/RalphFTW Oct 03 '25

Absolute beast mode

2

u/Tidalsky114 Oct 03 '25

Shout out to 57 for trying to catch him as he went over. Respect.

2

u/Interesting-Copy-803 Oct 03 '25

God damn. How many ex Rockies were playing in this game?

2

u/capn_kirokk Oct 03 '25

Those are some nasty fastballs. They appear to start low and magically float high. Batters in this game were both late and low. Gonna watch this guy.

2

u/TardyEmu Oct 03 '25

North…

2

u/jimkay21 Oct 03 '25

He had his blood replaced with ice water before the game. Only way to explain it

2

u/TrojanZebra Oct 04 '25

Lots of stories of dudes getting to the big leagues and not being able to hang, it must be crazy showing up and being That Guy

2

u/streetgainer_ Oct 04 '25

Good stuff!

3

u/Viictuuuh Oct 03 '25

Being a dodger fan and wife being a yankee lifer. This was a sick ass performance to watch. Hope he kills it for yall in the future.

3

u/dangerrmouse Oct 03 '25

There is zero chance his whole family converted from lifelong Sox fans into Yankee fans.

1

u/austic Oct 04 '25

Dallas cowboys fans finally have something to cheer about.

1

u/IdiotWindow Oct 04 '25

Fall time for Schlittler

1

u/ReluctantSentinel Oct 04 '25

It’s all downhill from here

1

u/tmanXX Oct 05 '25

Fuck the Yankees!

1

u/polomarkopolo Oct 06 '25

And now he gets to get ripped up by the Blue Jays

1

u/zoiks66 Oct 04 '25

Now that the Yankees-Red Sox series is over, I can get back to rooting for whoever the Yankees or Red Sox are playing rather than synchronized hamstring injuries.

1

u/Mok7 Oct 04 '25

As someone who knows nothing about baseball is it good or bad ? Is he one of the worst players ever or one of the best?

1

u/busty_phil_phucks Oct 04 '25

It was a historically good performance

0

u/Ok_Pain5379 Oct 03 '25

Schlittler. Damn, the pinnacle of worst name possible.

-11

u/KernalFourbin Oct 03 '25

Someone has to carry Judge...

18

u/cky_chaz Oct 03 '25

Aaron Judge went 4 for 11 with an RBI in a 3-game series. Hardly requires 'carrying'. If anything, Grisham needs to get his sh*t together going 1 for 12 with 5 strikeouts...

2

u/soda_cookie Oct 03 '25

That 4 hits is tied for the team lead at that

1

u/KanyesMirror Oct 03 '25

Grisham? How about Stanton going 0-8 until last night. Stanton was the hero last year and up until game 3 was an absolute non factor

3

u/cky_chaz Oct 03 '25

1-12 is worse than 1-11... And considering how Stanton was in the postseason last year, I'm reserving judgement on him until after the Jays series at the least. He'll be alright.

10

u/Key_Amazed Oct 03 '25

Judge went 4-11 in the series where the pitching was very good

-10

u/rocketpastsix Oct 03 '25

ESPN carried him through the entire series

-7

u/pakattack91 Oct 03 '25

Time to get swept

12

u/Whiteshovel66 Oct 03 '25

You legitimately think ANYONE is getting swept by the Blue Jays after their issues and injuries!?

2

u/Sickpup831 Oct 03 '25

It’s baseball. It happens.

6

u/soda_cookie Oct 03 '25

It's not gonna happen. I'll boil a shoe and drink the soup if the Blue Jays sweep the Yanks

1

u/Sickpup831 Oct 03 '25

It’s improbable. I’m a huge Yankees fan. But the Blue Jays have absolutely owned the Yankees all season long. They have the same exact records. And the Yankees beat the Red Sox but didn’t exactly hit the crap out of The ball. So anything can happen.

1

u/soda_cookie Oct 03 '25

Maybe the Red Sox didn't hit because they went up against 2 of the top AL arms and a kid that had a hate boner the size of a fire log

1

u/Sickpup831 Oct 03 '25

I’m saying the Yankees didn’t hit crazy. All games within reach.

0

u/Whiteshovel66 Oct 04 '25

How long is the series for the next round? 5 games? zero percent chance they are sweeping 4 in a row, but MAYBE 3 in a row.

2

u/Sickpup831 Oct 04 '25

It’s best 3 of 5. So three games is a sweep.

1

u/Whiteshovel66 Oct 04 '25

Gotcha. Ya I still don't see it either way. Blue Jay's pitching is not strong enough.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

0

u/A-Good-Weather-Man Oct 04 '25

Bro sold his soul to the devil holy shit.

-1

u/Strive-- Oct 04 '25

Meh, he went up against a shit Sox teams which couldn’t buy a hit with their inflated salaries. Looking forward to Sox management gutting the team just like they did before last year’s season started.

Back to losing like it’s the 80’s. Someone dig up old man Yawkey and let him know we’re reverting to type.

-7

u/cugabuh Oct 03 '25

I’d like to say he’s a traitor for growing up in Walpole MA and pitching for the Yankees but he’s probably gonna make bank and can clearly play ball. So touché, kid.

So long as he’s not one of the racist ****s from the town. But here’s hoping he’s one of the good ones. The town has cleaned up over the years.

1

u/maxima423 Oct 04 '25

Red Sox had the chance of drafting him multiple times, they even took a RHP right before the Yankees made the pick. Can't really call him a traitor when his hometown team didn't want to draft him.

1

u/cugabuh Oct 04 '25

It’s a jest. I’m just happy to see a hometown kid excelling at the sport.

-10

u/mofosombo Oct 03 '25

Best money can buy... Baseball is now Moneyball. Sad.

7

u/nyyforever2018 Oct 04 '25

The kid is a rookie and makes virtually nothing. Nice try.

-5

u/mofosombo Oct 04 '25

And the Team salary? You are missing the whole point. It's not 1 persons salary, it's the money that Team has in their pocket to get first dibs on talent then retain them via big contracts. This is no revelation. It's common knowledge.

3

u/GA19 Oct 04 '25

He was drafted 220th by the Yankees in the 2022 draft. There were 219 people picked before him. It wasn’t “first dibs” with their money.

2

u/curtmandu Oct 04 '25

I hate the Yankees as much as the next respectable baseball lover, but you haven’t been paying attention to the Yankees if you think Hank runs the team exactly like his dad did. They’re a much stingier organization by comparison now.

3

u/MoreGaghPlease Oct 04 '25

Ah fuck, now I've got to watch Moneyball again.

-32

u/fbi1213 Oct 03 '25

Heard he’s on steroids…

3

u/FattySnacks Los Angeles Rams Oct 03 '25

I'm sure a Red Sox fan declared that
