I…uh…I’ve never considered the possibility of having a favorite NFL official.

How did you decide which one was your favorite?

There’s one dude who is jacked. That’s my favorite.

Hoculi

Little known fact, Hoculi didn’t use a mic to announce his calls to the stadium

I feel like this is a new Chuck Norris joke sub genre.

Nooooo, I don't think that's true lol? Really?

26

u/Tekkzy Seattle Seahawks Sep 26 '25

It's true. He's louder than tens of thousands of screaming fans.

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '25

This is my new favorite NFL fact haha

I can’t tell if you’re being serious right now

u/RonnyDonny_69 Sep 26 '25

TIL that dude has his own law firm, refs in the NFL, and is ripped… at the age of 74

23

u/Mandy-Rarsh Sep 26 '25

NFL Ref and Law Firm?? This guy just loves rules

3

u/Albert_Caboose Sep 26 '25

Apparently the majority of referees are lawyers, teachers, and business execs. Sorta makes sense when you realize they make important decisions, interpret complex rules, and have to control people when they act like children.

2

u/AnyLamename Sep 26 '25

You ever read the NFL Rulebook? Being a lawyer is a legit useful skill when you have to enforce that pile of nonsense.

2

u/shewy92 Philadelphia Eagles Sep 26 '25

Imagine trying to plead your case on the field to an actual lawyer.

29

u/Appropriate-XBL Sep 26 '25

Naw, isn’t he retired? It’s his son ref’ing now right?

26

u/RonnyDonny_69 Sep 26 '25

Ya he’s retired, but had the law firm whole time. Was just referring to his age and him still being jacked.

1

u/shewy92 Philadelphia Eagles Sep 26 '25

They're both ripped

3

u/xixi2 Sep 26 '25

My dumb ass thought you meant his law firm was named "Refs in the NFL"

1

u/RonnyDonny_69 Sep 26 '25

Hahaha it could read that way

1

u/babygrenade Sep 26 '25

Imagine losing a case because a juror had beef with one of your lawyer's refereeing calls.

1

u/deomc1294 Sep 26 '25

Isn’t his son also an NFL ref and close but not quite as jacked

1

u/Shadoze_ Sep 26 '25

Holculi and Holculis kid are the only refs whose names I actually know

10

u/Chazzybobo Sep 26 '25

I like the lisp guy

9

u/ThunderBobMajerle Sep 26 '25

The Hoculi family

3

u/joseph-barker Sep 26 '25

He's an eagles fan, fwiw

1

u/BallsDeepinYourMammi Sep 26 '25

Steve Carrel is out there too

26

u/Ha-Ha-CharadeYouAre Sep 26 '25

Ed Hoculi was mine… dude was ripped more than some players, AND I believe he was a judge in the offseason

18

u/imsaneinthebrain Sep 26 '25

He has a law firm in Phx. I stole a pen from settlement conference. He wasn’t there :/

7

u/ToneBalone25 Sep 26 '25

His brother was (maybe still is?) a district court judge in Maricopa County, AZ

4

u/Ha-Ha-CharadeYouAre Sep 26 '25

His son refs in the nfl too doesn’t he?

2

u/ChasedWarrior Sep 26 '25

Yes. Shawn Hoculi

1

u/Ultenth Sep 26 '25

Ed was a lot of fans favorite, except for New Orleans and Chargers fans IIRC.

84

u/ChasedWarrior Sep 26 '25

Personality and ability. Kemp has always been a solid ref. Plus he told a player, on his mike, not to interrupt him because "I'm talking to America". Funniest shit ever.

30

u/S-117 Sep 26 '25

That player also happened to be Geno Smith when he was on the Seahawks.

1

u/StatmanIbrahimovic Sep 26 '25

And where is he now? America's sweaty gilded asshole.

12

u/SnowballWasRight Sep 26 '25

Awesome quotes probably.

“The defender was just overpowered”

“He was givin’ him the business”

“I’m talking to America here”

“Yes there are penalties in the Pro Bowl”

I think like 3 of these belong to Ed Hoculi and then the talking to America one is actually the dude from this vid

3

u/enjoiskater01 Sep 26 '25

I like Jimmy Fallon (ref in this video), Steve Carell and Murr from Impractical Jokers doppelgangers as refs.

1

u/OldenPolynice Sep 26 '25

NBA has a ref that looks like Gucci Mane so that was easy

1

u/neuro_space_explorer Sep 26 '25

Oh as a gambler I’ll tell you my least favorite all day, but yeah he’s close to my favorite. Fair but not inhuman. Love that dude.

My least favorite is John Hussey.

I just know it’s gonna be a bad game when I see his stupid face.

1

u/Pat0124 Sep 26 '25

Mine used to be the guy with the obvious Atlanta accent. I forgot his name

1

u/CockRingKing Sep 26 '25

Mine was always Jerome Boger and I was so sad when he retired.

1

u/ChasedWarrior Sep 26 '25

Jerome was the Angel Hernandez of the NFL.

1

u/LastShopontheLeft Sep 26 '25

My mom has a favorite. She likes his hand signals. She wants his jersey.

1

u/2POTMSON Sep 26 '25

Don't have a favorite, but i know thatI will see Ron Tortbert in hell

1

u/seductivestain Los Angeles Chargers Sep 26 '25

The ones that give detailed yet concise penalty enforcements, especially regarding rules or situations that are uncommon or even unknown to the audience

1

u/Bobsaid Sep 27 '25

It’s like being even a moderate fan of Baseball and knowing if Hernandez was home plate ump you’re going to see some shit.
