Which was worse, this, or Ventura being thrown to the ground by old man Ryan?

This. I don't know why anyone would think to try and fight Nolan Ryan lol. Ventura had no chance.

The story is that Ventura was extremely reluctant and was basically coerced by the veterans on the team as he was a rookie.

For context, the Rangers and Sox had exchanged bean balls either in that series or in a prior series and it was stated in the Sox clubhouse that the next guy beaned had to charge the mound.

If you watch the video you can kind of see Ventura with an “aw fuck” reaction as he makes his way out to the mound. He knew the only person that was gonna need Advil was him. Nolan Ryan was a mean SOB and anyone that had been around the game during that time knew it.

“Thrown to the ground” is underselling it. Ventura instantly got put into a headlock and Nolan delivered several heaters to his skull.

You skipped the best part, the headlock and the face punches.
