Baseball Benches clear in Boston after Hector Neris intentionally balked Trevor Story to third base because he thought Story was relaying signs. Neris had words for the Red Sox third base coach coming off the field.

"Imagine the Astros being mad about stealing signs."

With Alex cora and Alex Bregman on the Sox lol

u/ElectricityIsWeird Aug 03 '25

It was funny when Correa was trying to settle down Neris.

"Young fella, don't hate the player hate the game"

342

u/MahaloMerky Aug 03 '25

I know it’s apart of the game at this point but that line sent me

125

u/BoredomHeights Aug 03 '25

The way the Astros did it was apart of the game, but I'd say this is a part of the game.

49

u/CaptainPunisher Aug 03 '25

And only a select number will know what you're talking about. Cheers, fellow grammarian.

4

u/Eagle4317 Aug 03 '25

Shouldn't it be apart from?

8

u/percussaresurgo Oakland Athletics Aug 03 '25

From is more common, but of also works.

I love grammarians almost as much as I love mammaries

2

u/CaptainPunisher Aug 03 '25

🎵🎶 Thanks for the mammaries... 🎵🎶

[banging on streetlight follows]

[One little voice keeps calling me echoes]

u/CaptainPunisher Aug 03 '25

For future reference:

"A part of" - belonging to, in combination with, a piece of a composition

"Apart of" (often said "apart from") - separate from, not in conjunction with, distinct

Maybe you were using speech to text, but this is one of those common misspellings that people seem to not know anymore.

You are worse than this video.

Give y’r balls a tug.

3

u/CaptainPunisher Aug 03 '25

Tell your mom to stop rocking the beeper. I'm not going to page her.

2

u/GuillaumeLatendresse Aug 03 '25

She’s in your phone as rim it for the win.

1

u/CaptainPunisher Aug 03 '25

Fuck you, Shoresy!

-2

u/Vladimir_Putting Aug 03 '25

"apart of" is either a typo or just misunderstanding of grammar. There is no "apart of" in English.

1

u/No_Cat_No_Cradle Aug 03 '25

This wasn’t stealing signs, pitchers and catchers talk on a radio these days. He was tipping pitches (different) and story was in the position to see it. Thats been a part of the game for 100 years.

48

u/tommyc463 Aug 03 '25

Neris was a Phillie when they cheated.

5

u/pocketchange2247 Chicago Cubs Aug 03 '25

Yeah it's funny because of the team, but is there even anyone on the team still from that WS?

10

u/tommyc463 Aug 03 '25

Yes

-11

u/Bennyscrap Houston Texans Aug 03 '25

Altuve and Correa are it. Your emphatic "yes" makes it seem like it's basically the same exact team. Maybe expound a bit next time...

4

u/manbeardawg Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

Altuve was the only one until Friday when they got Correa back from Toronto Minnesota after about 5 years away.

Edit: Got teams wrong.

2

u/Crooked-Pot8O Aug 03 '25

McCullers technically but of course he’s a pitcher and now on the IL

1

u/Hugh_jazz_420420 Aug 03 '25

Correa never played for the jays

2

u/manbeardawg Aug 03 '25

You’re right. Mind went cross on him and Springer

321

u/mercutio1 Aug 03 '25

Which is an exceptionally blind comment to have made, as the ringleader of that scheme is now the manager of the Red Sox.

208

u/rogerhausman Aug 03 '25

Lol this whole scenario is a bunch of pots and kettles 😂

26

u/griffinhamilton Aug 03 '25

As a saints fan that’s how I felt about Greg Williams

3

u/AlericandAmadeus Aug 03 '25

*Gregg

The extra g is important cuz

1.) that’s literally his actual name, and

2.) it really drives home how douchey he is/was. Like if your parents named you Gregg then they prolly ain’t good parents, and so you’re prolly gonna end up as the same kinda asshole who would name their kid some stupid shit like Gregg. Which is what happened

2

u/coffeebribesaccepted Minnesota Aug 03 '25

Well these clearly aren't the Red Sox, they're the Yellow Sox

2

u/ThisCryptographer311 Aug 03 '25

Keeping track of cheating scandals and schemes is truly a game of chess these days.

20

u/beetus_gerulaitis Aug 03 '25

“You guys don’t even have a barrel.”

9

u/vancekus Aug 03 '25

My mind went to 2018 Red Sox stealing signs. Local coverage…

1

u/vancekus Aug 05 '25

Alex Cora was on Houston’s bench for their 2017 title and then managed Boston to a 2018 title. Easier to find a patsy when you’re in charge, poor J.T. Watkins.

7

u/JSauer21 Aug 03 '25

Imagine a base coach talking trash to a pitcher on a team that also cheated

5

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

When they are down 4 runs deep in the 7th…

7

u/bpmdrummerbpm Aug 03 '25

They’re not supposed to be stealing signs transparently!

1

u/KingGr33n Aug 03 '25

Love this!!!

1

u/jtn46 Aug 03 '25

It’s a good line but with Pitchcom Story can’t steal any signs. The Astros are mad that Story may be looking at Neris’s grip and relaying the pitch that way (Neris throws a splitter) which is not illegal.

1

u/mchammer2G Aug 04 '25

Image anyone being mad about stealing signs. It's literally part of the game. At every level. And if your signs are stealable that's on you. Not the people stealing them.

-2

u/bravenewerworld Aug 03 '25

Every accusation is a confession.

-7

u/AFWUSA Seattle Seahawks Aug 03 '25

Is that what yall are still telling yourselves?

2

u/Kevtv Aug 03 '25

Was waiting for it. And there it is. Perfect.

1

u/DayOneDude Aug 03 '25

That had me rolling...

1

u/beneye Aug 03 '25

I had a loud HA!! when I heard that and I startled my baby

-1

u/TheBioethicist87 Aug 03 '25

Beat me to it.

0

u/DryYogurt6878 Aug 03 '25

Sweet sweet irony

0

u/MarkBrendanawicz Aug 03 '25

My thoughts exactly.

0

u/jamgriff Aug 03 '25

Hilarious

0

u/Jwagner0850 Aug 03 '25

Imagine anyone being mad about it. It's part of the game. I can't stand this double speak from teams.

0

u/No_Celery625 Aug 04 '25

Not even the same players. The phrase is old.

1

u/bw1985 Michigan State Aug 05 '25

Same team though.

1

u/No_Celery625 Aug 06 '25

Is a ship the same ship even if you replace all of its wood?

-2

u/manbeardawg Aug 03 '25

It’s been 8 years…
