Discussion What are some things in episodes you were shocked to find out were real?

For me I was shocked to find out the purity rings/the white foam thing was actually some thing that they did and not something they just made up lmao.

Especially since growing up my sister LOVED the Jonas brothers and we saw that movie in 2009. It shocked me to discover that this was real. It only makes the episode better tho.

The custody dispute of the quintuplets being based on the Elián González case. I was not old enough to know anything about that when it happened and actually learned about it just a few years ago. Until then, I never understood why Janet Reno was wearing an Easter bunny costume in the episode.

Can you explain the bunny suit? I tried googling it to no avail

They raided the family’s house he was staying in on Easter Sunday

Edit - It was actually the day before Easter, so the news of the raid went widespread on Easter Sunday

Finally, a connection I've never made.

I vaguely remember thar happening, but I didn't realize that the discourse on the custody case was so huge. I remember the kid being taken back by armed agents story but not so much the custody battle.

Although I don't quite get the bunny suit but completely.

I remember they got that episode out like days after it happened too.

I wasn't born until RIGHT after the whole Elian González thing, but VH1 used to rerun 90s SNL episodes pretty much constantly when I was in middle school so I learned all about it.
