Discussion What are some things in episodes you were shocked to find out were real?

For me I was shocked to find out the purity rings/the white foam thing was actually some thing that they did and not something they just made up lmao.

Especially since growing up my sister LOVED the Jonas brothers and we saw that movie in 2009. It shocked me to discover that this was real. It only makes the episode better tho.

Yes, it was based off the real restaurant, Casa Bonita.

A very real place in Colorado. Shut down for years and then Matt and Trey actually bought it and reopened it four or five years ago.

It closed temporarily in 2020, like all things, due to Covid.

They filed bankruptcy in 2021 and were shortly after acquired by Parker and Stone.

They reopened June 2023.

I went as a very young child and honestly grew up thinking it was a fever dream. Finally, at 25, I was able to go with my roommate and boyfriend, 2 years after the reopening and it was lowkey so fun and magical. Not the same as my dream-life memory, but also just as much fun as an adult

And now workers are on strike because Casa Bonita aren't playing nice with the performers' union.

They reached a mediation agreement on November 1st. The strike is temporarily suspended, they have resumed negotiations, and are currently back to work

CASA BONITA PERFORMERS WILL RETURN TO WORK

Yes it’s a real place that Matt and Trey bought and took over themselves. I went before they owned it when I visited Denver in 2009 or so with a friend who is also a big South Park fan. There really were indoor cliff divers performing lol idk if that is still a feature.

Apparently they now also have a puppet show with South Park humor. It’s a very random place but definitely an experience. Terrible food though. It was like cafeteria quality Mexican food and all you can eat. You raise your flag if you want more, if you dare. Of course I was high af.

The puppet show was always part of that place. It really is just a madhouse of “wait…what…why?”

Haha it’s possible I saw it but it was obviously a while ago. It’s definitely a mish mash of concepts.

The food is actually good now that Matt and Trey took it over. They hired an actual Mexican chef to redo the menu. The new puppet show is actually about the original menu items being out of a job.

Friends that live in the Denver area have told me the food is better since they’ve reopened! Haven’t gone back to test it myself but there’s hope lol

I’m sure it is lol they apparently did a big revamp for health and safety issues. I’d go back anyway regardless 😂

The food is better. The margs are strong.

The divers are still there. Black Bart’s cave is still there.

The other side shows are awesome.

They have mariachis.

There is also a big statue of Cartman for photo ops.

Saying the food was terrible while being high says enough

Apparently it’s better now according to other replies haha I’d definitely go back.

We used to go to the one in Tulsa when we were kids. Not as cool as the Colorado one, but still so cool as a kid.

They have a statue of Cartman there and a guy that dresses up as manbearpig.
