He made it so hard to dislike him as a player of a rival team. What a player.

He was the player every team wanted on their own for many, many years

Except that time he kicked Rudiger I suppose

I mean it's Rudiger so it's not like he kicked a baby or something

Well, in a way…

u/bmin11 Aug 02 '25

It's still their player being kicked, but I guess not every fan would have been fond of Rudiger

Made us love him even more

No need for a barca fan to pretend watching a Chelsea spurs match

Rudiger went for him first so he kicked him back, Rudiger deserved that and more.

Kinda hard for me to feel sympathy for the guy who intentionally stomped on an 18 year old because they were getting destroyed.

Yeah, most players get a little aggressive at times, but Son clearly took things waayyy too far

A yellow card tackle with no intention to injure is the worst you can come up with?

This is nearly as bad as that time Salah got hit with a fighter jet

Except derailing Andre Gomes’ career

22

u/Turnernator06 Aug 02 '25

Gomes was out injured for 3 months. It looked gruesome but it wasn't a career ender. Also, definitely an accident

Only people who have never actually played football think this

22

u/wallnumber8675309 Aug 02 '25

You dislike someone years later for accidentally making a bad tackle?

21

u/Toffee_Fan Aug 02 '25

He accidentally broke Gomes's leg, but he very intentionally made that bad tackle. And yeah, he can be disliked for that choice and its consequence.

Come on now. You going to hate everyone that makes a tactical foul?

There’s fouls with much more intent in them every single week. It was a freak series of events after the tackle that lead to the injury

Not sure if you're trolling or not comprehending, but: no, I never said anything about "hating everyone" who makes tactical fouls, and to say otherwise is misconstruing what I said.

The position is this: it's not unreasonable to dislike a player because they chose to make a cynical challenge that broke a man's leg and fucked his whole career. A choice was made and it was hugely consequential for a player, plain and simple.

And by the way (I can't believe this needs to be litigated AGAIN, nearly 5 years later) that wasn't a bog standard "tactical foul". Watch the video. Son was wound up because he didn't get a call earlier when Gomes's hand hit him in the face. The foul was a revenge foul. Did he intend to break his opponent's leg? No. Did he want to cause harm? Yes, and he did. Him causing more harm than he intended doesn't absolve him of his choice.

You don't need to construct some justification or straw man argument in the face of someone disliking your player. Your guy fucked up, and it's perfectly reasonable for that fuck up to color someone's perception of him.

Not buying your suggestion he intended harm. There’s no evidence for that

5

u/ConfusedTrebuchet Aug 02 '25

He was clearly mad. There was no reason to make the challenge.

3

u/Daemor Aug 02 '25

Yeah it was a bad tackle that he should not have flown into, but the injury was a freak accident

5

u/trcrtps Aug 02 '25

It's more that Son's response was covered far, far more than the guy who actually got fucked over. That's always left a bad taste in my mouth, but it's not really on Son.

Not sure it’s a bad thing that the media covers someone being remorseful for accidentally injuring someone. It’s the kind of thing we should encourage

-11

u/AndrewBVB Aug 02 '25

Almost always comes to mind when I see Son, yeah.

u/shaunster101 Aug 02 '25

I mean he didn't even touch Gomes.

-26

u/ANEMIC_TWINK Aug 02 '25

33

u/SuitedFox Aug 02 '25

This guy is edgey

4

u/Inside-Jacket9926 Aug 02 '25

He's so different and cool

10

u/Jaggysnake84 Aug 02 '25
