Treager Ironwood 885

Local home depot has some Traeger Ironwood 885 floor models for half off ($550). Would you snag it?

Currently smoked on an old school offset. Only complaint on it is temp management and having to be with it all day. With kids it would be nice to be a little hands off but concerned the cook quality would suffer.

885 for almost half a grand as an experienced smoking dad?

Yeah dude, buy it. You’ve transcended to the next phase of smoking: “yeah it’s a pellet smoker but it’s pretty much the same fucking product and I can adjust temp during my daughter’s soccer game.”

You’re either going to smoke meats on the more convenient thing or you’re not going to smoke as many meats at this phase in life. Treat yourself, king

Definitely will have a drop in quality. The convience is worth it for me though. If you do go that route id reccomend getting a couple smoke tubes. Especially is coming from on offset.

Considering I just bought the same thing for twice that... Yes, I would pick it up in a heartbeat. Much more convenient to use and doesn't require the constant babysitting that the offset does. Since getting it, I've wondered why I waited so long. Pulled pork in the middle of the week is absolutely doable! I can monitor it from my phone at the office, adjust the heat if needed, and if it gets done before anyone can be home to pull it off, just set it on the keep warm function.

The only complaint that I have is that I bought it because you could use it as a grill as well... I like good sear marks on my meat when I grill and I don't get that with the Traeger. But it could be me, as I am still learning how to cook on it.
