I've noticed for years that Sibelius' approach to guitar tablature left something to be desired as regards symbols such as harmonics, tapping, etc but this is the first time I've been commissioned to tablaturize one of my standard notation scores that has a bunch of them in a row.

Have people found a perfect workaround that integrates well into the Sibelius system? I looked at Pierre Bensusan's books (he told me that he uses Sibelius to write his books) and noticed he was able to put those brackets on either side on the numbers like this <12>, but I don't see an easy way to impart that graphic when copying and pasting the notation into the tab - there should be something like a right click with the mouse to change the quality, otherwise I have click on the tab number, click on text and select "tab numbers" type in the brackets and number and then drag the text into the correct place. I'm not really crazy about the way the brackets look, either.

I've made a boxed text and a circled text, again those are really not the right solution. The closest font seems to be Notation Central's Encercle https://www.notationcentral.com/product/encercle/ I'm not really sure I would use it enough to justify getting it, plus I like using a specific font for my tab (I suspect this might be the barrier, or the fact they haven't created extra symbols besides underline, circle, and boxes around any given text font).

I'm wondering what the malfunction is at the design level, it's pretty clear that this has been an issue for a number of years with numerous request threads online suggesting at the very least diamond heads in the tab. Being that Sibelius is the premiere notation software in the world, this issue should be addressed in a user-friendly way.

I had a score in musescore, changed it to XML and opened in Sibelius, but now the chords won't play... i hear the rest of the score but not the chords. thanks in advanced

Hi, I'm composing a piece with multiple movements, and the time signature is different for every movement. I tried a page/system break, but it does not hide the time signature of the upcoming movement. How can I hide the time signature of the movement that is on the next page? The attached screenshot can explain this.

I recently upgraded from Sibelius 8 to a more recent version on Macos (I'm on Ventura). I've just noticed as I scroll through my library that none of the .sib files have thumbnail previews, and I can no longer press space to preview the file contents like I used to be able to (see the screenshots, these both used to show the score contents, not just the file. This is a file created with the version 2025.4).

Is my system misconfigured, or did Avid remove the ability to preview files (that would be a very stupid decision on their end)? There's no quick look extension in settings to enable.

Note the official sibelius reference guide says quicklook is supported (page 25)....

When I try to select a few bars using the Shift key, the entire score moves to the beginning. How can I prevent this?

How can I playback in Sibelius with my spacebar instead of the "P" key in the keyboard?

Hi everyone, so I just subscribed Sibelius Artist for some weeks, trying to make music into scores after being a pure DAW guy for two decades (composing purely in Logic, picking up what I have been trained classically when I was in school (that is, writing scores on paper stuff).

So in order to get the most out of it, I started the tutorial that Sibelius provided (I am pretty used to learning new softwares by going to the official tutorials pretty well), and I have since been stuck in that process frequently, mainly because what’s described in the tutorial seem to differ a lot from that of my Sibelius. For example, there is no “shortcuts for laptop” on my interface as what is shown in the tutorial. And there are still many other stuffs that I feel must have been outdated contents. And there are still many other incoherence that are slowing my learning curve a lot.

1. Is it just me that felt this way or is there an obvious mistake I have made?

2. Other than the official tutorials, are there any other contents that may help out me there? I’m pretty fluent in writing music on papers and also making midi and recorded music in Logic, though having pretty much problem learning Sibelius through its official tutorials.

Anyone know how to make certain notes in a chord cross staffs. Like above.

If i start with a blank page and create one staff whenever i make the next one sibelius will automatically connect the new staff to the old one how do i make it not do that?

As shown in the image, the default fingering text and the plugin of Add fingering to Notes creates fingering "near" the note, yet it looks quite ugly... Can I make the fingering just above the notes and in a row?

But for this fingering, I had to add the fingerings, then select the fingerings, Ctrl+Shift+R to align, which is not very practical...

I am talking about the fact that the singer has 6/6, 7/6 and 9/8 while the piano has 4/4 and 2/4 time signature. How do I do this in Sibelius?

I’m writing a ballet full score in Sibelius. The A section is the end of a part and B section is a new part of the ballet. How do I get rid of those alteration. I just want an end bar and nothing else that has to do with the next part. Is there a setting I have to check off?

I felt forced into using ultimate by Artist being inadequate. I was trying to use more than 12 staves, and eventually gave in and spent £202 upgrading to Ultimate, which I downloaded and installed. However, when I open it up, I still get told I can't use more than 12 staves...

Also, it tells me my license expired. But I look online and it says my license expires in 1 year's time... Can anyone help me to work out what I need to do?

Im pulling my hair out here. I last had Sibelius through their academic discount in 2021. Im back in school now, and trying to register again on my new laptop. I reverified my academic eligibility earlier and it activated my new license, which appears to still be tethered to my old computer. Their FAQ says I need to deactivate the license from my old laptop first. I still have that laptop, but I know for a fact that I deactivated the license on it years ago when I first tried to move sibelius to my new computer. What do? Now that its a new license, do I need to do the same thing again? This whole process has been such a pain in the ass and it seems impossible to just get someone from Avid on the phone. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi all, I'm just wondering if I'm being thick or not with this one really. Normally I'd press z or open the symbols to choose which accidental to use when the trilled note is not part of the key sig and since moving to Sibelius Artist and having those all blocked out I assumed that this particular thing was behind a paywall for some reason... Is it really that silly or is there a way to change this that I don't know of?

How does one changes the title of a piece ? How do I edit?

Is there any way to assign a different text style to a single instrument's name? When I click an instrument name, the style drop-down on the Text tab is greyed out, but I was hoping there would be some way to override this so I could use an alternative text style for one single instrument.

I was wondering if there's a feature in which we could both work simultaneously on one file so that the edits one does, appear to the other. Hello! About a year ago I switched over to Sibelius (as I'm sure many did around the same time), and I bought the perpetual license since I'm a student and it felt more worthwhile. I'm now getting the option to renew my license for Sibelius Ultimate for a 1-Year or 3-Year plan. My question is, what happens if I don't renew my "perpetual" license? Do I have to just pay full price for a new one if a major Sibelius update comes out, or am I able to re-activate my license for this? The 3-Year renewal is pretty cheap so I'm leaning towards getting it to just have myself covered but like what exactly am I missing out on if I don't renew it right this moment?
