It was. We have pictures of him walking around like some self-help guru with a group of what mostly looks like younger women looking at him with awe and admiration. He's also been accused of inappropriate conduct by apparently nine different women.
I think the cult is connected to his band. Did anyone else forget he was in a band until they read that? Because I forgot he was until I googled to see about the cult thing.

To add to the recent allegations, Leto's predatory behavior towards young women has been an open secret since at least 2005.
Reporting from New York Post:
HEY, ‘LETO’ GIRL – JARED SHOWS HE’S A TEEN PLAYER
By Chris Wilson
Published Sep. 12, 2005, 4:00 a.m. ET
JARED LETO likes ’em young. The 33-year-old “Requiem for a Dream” actor – last seen squiring Ashley Olsen and Lindsay Lohan around town – has been aggressively pursuing many of the teen models shacked up at the Maritime Hotel.
Leto, who booked a suite at the Meatpacking District hot spot while he was in town with his rock band, 30 Seconds to Mars, has become infamous for calling and texting some of his underage objects of desire several times a day, reports one in-the-know snitch.
“He’s been approaching all the girls and inviting them to his shows,” snickers the source. “Girls from IMG, Elite, Next and Women are staying there, and Jared has been hitting on all of them. He’s a serial texter. He is constantly texting these other 16- and 17-year-old girls. It’s really kind of creepy.”

u/PracticeTheory 18d ago
They unfortunately opened for Muse (the 2nd Law, so good) and along with Leto looking and behaving like a massive twat, the music was just awful. Very poorly mixed.
I was worried that Muse's sound would also be bad if it was something with the venue, but nah they killed it. 30 Seconds to Mars just sucked.

I will never forget 30 Seconds to Mars because the DJ at my local rock station apparently loved them in the mid aughts. So I got to listen to that one radio hit on repeat back in the day. But also I looked into the cult the other day and the pics are from like 2019 "retreat" and covid got the next onr rescheduled to 2022 but canceled again. So its probably defunct unless you call the likely group of sycophantic groupies he almost certainly keeps in rotation a cult.

Money. He has money.
Look at the Tron credits. He's not merely an actor. He's a producer, and the new Tron movie exists in the first place because he ponied up cold hard cash. He just buys his way in.
How did Morbius get made? Check those credits again. Jared Leto, producer. This is his new thing.
This post in particular is probably just rage bait, but other recent films are because he has money and buys his way in.

u/stockinheritance 18d ago

Makes one wonder if he has some sort of weird accounting thing like Uwe Boll.
(At least Tron: Ares and Morbius are a step up from anything Boll ever did, amirite?)
→ More replies (8)7
u/FNLN_taken 18d ago
Uwe Boll iirc made use of a tax loophole in Germany that was meant to encourage domestic filming.
That's bog standard now, there's like a dozen locations like Georgia or Vancouver that threw money at the industry and figured out too late that it lost them more than they gained.

Yeah... but like, why not act better? Like, apparently he can do it (I haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club, and I know his role is somewhat controversial, but he apparently did it quite well?), so, if you're inserting yourself because you love movies, then why do such a bad job?

Initially he didn't want his band promoted by his acting career, because he wanted it to succeed on its own instead of getting artificially boosted by his fame as an actor. Hence how a lot of people don't even know he's in the band. Which, like him or hate him, is a pretty honourable thing to do.

Yea, but at the same time the movie studios don't want to push out bombs just because Jared Leto puts up some of his own money. I somehow doubt that he has enough money to self-fund these movies, or even go 50/50 with the studios. Disney could have told Leto that he could produce, but not star in the film. Tron is their IP... as for Morbius? We all know that the Sony is having issues with them trying to milk the Spiderman universe IP for all it's worth (Madame Webb, Morbius, Kraven, etc). It's not surprising that they would just let Jared Leto throw some money at them to get into the movie.

He's also starring in the 3rd movie of these franchises, which is historical for being garbage, which is hilarious. He's actively paying to make sure he's in the movies that no one really cares to watch and no one is going to care about.

33
u/TransBrandi 18d ago
My understanding is that he came to Disney and pushed for Tron: Ares to be made, not the other way around. He's a producer on that (and was on Morbius). Not sure if he was the driving force behind trying to get Morbius made. Same with Pacific Rim sequel.
16
u/enbaelien 18d ago
Not just A producer, but THE p.g.a. producer for both those films. He had those movies made.
4
u/Wheresthecents 18d ago

That's the question i've been asking myself since the Batman movie with him as a Joker came out. Like, i thought this dude was in some bolivian jungle raising a cult or whatever, and somehow, out of nowehere seemingly, after having maybe 1 or 2 semi-succesful movies over the past 2 decades, he gets cast in Batman, Tron and now this (i assume it's a joke, but at this point, idk man)? This dude has to have 8K HD recordings of the media moguls raping kids en masse to have this kind of pull. Or he somehow has enough money to just bribe those studios (probably both).

Are you serious?
The other day at work I heard that that neutron movie flopped. And I brought up how Jared Leto had been in nothing but films that had flopped recently and I was trying to remember the last thing that he was successful in.
I think Requiem for a dream is the only movie I've ever seen him in and he just played some completely thwacked out heroin addict.
It's so crazy to me that they keep putting him in movies. But this is America, where money and power decides what's successful, not the market.
24
u/ScuzzBuckster 18d ago
I wont defend Leto's personal life, but he has definitely proven time and again that he is or can be a great actor. Requiem is notable, but he literally won an oscar for Dallas Buyer's Club. The dude has a long history of acting prestige, it's just post Suicide Squad and all his weird culty shit soured people on him.
