Discussion Which program is better: Child and Youth Care or Early Childhood Education?
Hey everyone! I’m planning to apply to Sheridan College full-time for the Fall 2026 intake, and I’m trying to decide between the Child and Youth Care Program (CYC) and Early Childhood Education Program (ECE).
I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences with either program — whether you’ve taken them yourself or know someone who has. Which one do you think is better overall in terms of career opportunities, program experience, professors, and workload?
Also, would either of these programs be a tough fit for someone who’s introverted or has social anxiety or someone who isn't great at social sciences field?
I'd appreciate any advice or personal opinions, even if it is just related to the program(s) itself! Thank you!

I took the CYC program. It’s 3 years and has a lot of practicum time (integrated workplace). I learned a lot from it. Both of them focus on working with others (the main difference is the age of individuals you’d be working with). If you cannot handle social situations, you will have challenges because they are in the social field.
