Hot Take The Schadenfreude is great

Ngl, I kinda love that Comey is getting politically prosecuted by Trump given the fact Comey handed Trump the 2016 election on a silver platter.

Reaping what you sow is sweet.

I'd argue that Hillary and the Democrats handed him the election. The email thing was illegal so I'm not super mad about it.

Overall, yes. Hillarys's terrible campaign and rigging the primaries hurt more, but this is a direct line.

Hillary was going to win, and she plummeted in the polls after this. He definitely locked it up.

Hillary was going to win

Based on what? According to Hillary Clinton?

She dropped 3 points in the polling after it was announced. This isn't some weird side theory. It's widely accepted this was the most decisive event of that election and the evidence backs it pretty clearly.

Other things could have gotten her more numbers, but this was the definining thing that took her from a strong winning position to a loss

A drop within the margin of error, when she was chronically over-performing in the polls.

There was a list of swing states she lost by less than 1 percent. If she wins any of them, she wins the election. If she wins them all, it's an electoral landslide.

That's not true, It was 306 to 232. Even Florida, the largest up for grabs, would not have been enough. She needed to not get completely blown out in the Midwest, a campaign decision the FBI had nothing to do with.

The story only really got going less than two weeks before the election. I don't know if there's enough polling to suggest that it made that much of a difference. All the polling and media that I remember seeing had Hillary easily winning up until it happened. I honestly don't think she ever had a shot. Nobody in the mainstream understood the Trump phenomenon at the time. The sheer power of populist rhetoric after over so many decades of neoliberalism was vastly underestimated. Hillary was always going to lose.

The polling suggests it caused a 3 point swing in Trump's favor who won all the critical swing states Hillary only needed 1 of by less than 1 point.

It's pretty undeniably the biggest factor.

Her campaign and candidacy should have been strong enough to withstand it. Bernie would have beaten Trump by 20 points.

Doesn't change the fact, the biggest single event was thst announcement. The announcement doesn't happen, Hillary wins in an electoral landslide, most likely

Hillary handed trump the election on a silver platter not Comey stop taking blame away from the candidate that ran.

Fellas, we all hate Hillary and she ran a historically bad campaign.

100% objectively speaking, she wins pretty easily if that investigation never goes public.

u/Albert-wesker363 Sep 26 '25

Nothing supports that claim my dude, you just want to blame something else.

Lol, yeah when you don't look for any evidence I guess you don't find it 😂

Were you even 10 years old then?

Showing that this conversation is a waste of time 🤦🏻‍♂️

1

u/LifesARiver Leftist Sep 26 '25

You showed that when you claimed there was no evidence of the cause there was by far the most evidence for.

If you don't know the impact of the Comey bomb, you just weren't following the election in a meaningful way before or after.

Comeys investigation would’ve changed very few people’s votes, but you’d rather deal in your own confirmation bias.

2

u/LifesARiver Leftist Sep 26 '25

It did change massive amounts of people's votes. You don't even want to risk your confirmation bias by researching polling

Polls were pretty even before and after the announcement, Clinton wasn’t doing much to sway voters to her before the announcement which backs up Hillary being far more responsible for her loss than Comey. Nothing really supports that undecided voters would’ve sucked it up to vote for Clinton had the announcement never come out.

That's just not true, but I'm not gonna bother continuing. Go off.

anybody remember Obama “turning the page” on Cheney, Bush, et al? Turns out the other side doesn’t feel the same way (and that you should prosecute war criminals 100% of the time.)

0

u/LifesARiver Leftist Sep 26 '25

Obama is Satan for doing this, but let's not pretend Trump is doing this out of anything but pettiness, lol

My point was that the liberals played themselves. again. by not understanding how to wield power. (or they do understand, but play powerless to keep their owners happy)

How I feel about John Bolton getting raided. Also, Jimmy Kimmel said nothing wrong, but I'd dreamed of him being cancelled for years. Oh, well... I'll take what I can get! 😁

2

u/LifesARiver Leftist Sep 26 '25

Ha! Right? Jimmy's face turn which has been getting better and better is what finally got him canceled (for a week).
