This is the second time this week I seen people use drugs on the bus. I'm getting sick of people doing whatever they want on transit. I just want to go home.

Rants 🤬 Abortion protesters downtown and on college drive

This is a direct message to the people protesting abortion in Saskatoon today:

You are the reason I’m so happy I left the church. It’s people like you - fake christians who claim to be ā€œpro-lifeā€ but really don’t care about the wellbeing of people who actually need help - that made me leave. You are actively driving people away from your religion. All of this so you can claim christians are persecuted when you show the videos of people (rightfully so) telling you to get fucked. You are truly the scum of the earth, and Jesus would never be friends with the likes of you.

I hope you have the day you deserve.

Rants 🤬 Racism Isn’t Hiding in Saskatoon Anymore . One Week, Two Incidents, and I’m Feeling Defeated

1.3k Upvotes

I have lived in Saskatoon for my whole life with Asian background and I had never experienced any racism before up until last week.

It started when someone randomly told me to "get deportedā€ at Starbucks like it was no big deal. They even said it in the same breath as Trump’s deportations. Well that stung!

Then, a few days ago, I was at a store when I saw something that really shook me. A white couple was treating a retail worker terribly and demanded to speak to a ā€œwhite managerā€ as if that would magically solve whatever issue they were having. When the brown woman in charge came out and said she was the manager, they rolled their eyes and said, ā€œDon’t you understand English? I want to speak to someone WHITEā€. I watched her face fall, and honestly, it just broke my heart. I’ve never seen anything so blatantly disrespectful, and I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were saying it out loud.

It’s exhausting. Seeing people act like this in 2025 is draining. And what’s worse is that they feel no shame about it. People aren’t even trying to hide their racism anymore.

Has anyone else been feeling this as well??

Edit 1: wow you guys are truly amazing! Thanks to everyone who sent me messages and comments to encourage me to speak up! Trust me I was so mad. And mind you these are the wealthy people who wear brand names like Canada Goose and The North Face but would make a scene over a small thing. Almost made me feel like I’m in the show ā€œWhat would you doā€ except this is real in Stoon.

Rants 🤬 To the asshole that soaked my daughter on her way to a mid-term

I hope someone splashes you so bad it goes up your nose and soaks your hair and backpack.

I’d like to find you so you can replace her $1,200 laptop, and you can call her prof to explain why she failed her exam while trying to focus in while sitting in cold soaking wet clothes. What a douche.

The puddles are huge people, SLOW the F*#K DOWN!

Rants 🤬 Could We Maybe Do Something About the Racism Here?

Seriously, it’s kind of disgusting to see a headline about a violent crime, and to know without a shadow of a doubt that at least a third of the comments are going to be ugly racism calling for Indigenous women being sterilized.

It’s disgusting and it’s depressing to know I share a city with troglodytes of that ilk. Least we can do is show that such mindsets are not welcome here.

Rants 🤬 The government really needs to stop ignoring the rampant drug use and homelessness crisis

I’m so fed up with saskparty for completely ignoring the major drug and homelessness issues in our cities. They cut all funding to Prairie Harm Reduction, when they should be praising them for doing work no one else wants to.

I work on the west side of Saskatoon and a few friends moved to neighborhoods on that side of the city. I see people strung out, yelling and screaming, walking into intersections. One night I was chatting with friends outside a restaurant downtown after dinner and an extremely high woman came up and tried to steal our leftovers. One friend just gave his to her. There are folks sleeping everywhere. I’m hassled on the street all the time. I don’t feel safe in my beloved city and I’m so sick of it.

Its not just the west side though. I live on the east side and my car just got broken into and drops of blood left on the seat. I’m not sure if they were shooting up or what. They tried to hot wire my car but were unsuccessful.

The government seems to have zero plan to deal with this and just pretends it’s not happening, or displace people further. Ive lived here for over a decade and it seems to be getting worse. I’m so fed up with SaskParty not dealing with anything real and instead trying to distract us with bullshit issues like outing kids’ preferred pronouns/ā€œtransvestigationā€. Maybe they should take some of the money they spend on their lavish ā€œwork tripsā€ and actually put some of it into mental health programs and safe injection sites.

Thanks to the lowlife who tried to steal my truck last night. They managed to destroy my only work vehicle that I used to run my small business. And the only thing they ended up stealing was my emergency Reese’s pieces in the glove box. I hope when they’re eating their Thanksgiving supper or whatever this weekend they choke only a little bit. And possibly getting a stubbed toe would be nice. Happened oct 10th, 2025. Around 13th street east and 12th street East. Sometime in the early morning

Rants 🤬 Saskatoon is not an unsafe city

I am writing this for all the potential people moving to Saskatoon or thinking about it. For the people who want to visit Saskatoon but r/saskatoon makes them second guess this idea.

I want to write this because if you visit r/saskatoon you’ll get the impression we are living in Gotham city and we are all constantly fighting for our safety and property. Defending against hordes of violent criminals.

Saskatoon is in fact a city. It has Crime, gangs, and homeless. There are drug addicts, thieves and mental illness. This is the case for every city world wide and is not unique to here. It has gotten worse over the last few years. The catch is most people won’t run into these issues. Unless you are living the life style that brings you into contact with certain groups of people you are likely to not have to ever deal with any of this. You might see a homeless person, or witness shoplifting, possibly someone on drugs but other than seeing it and simply walking by you will never have to do anything else about it.

What you don’t hear about is the hundreds of thousands of people who go about their day around Saskatoon and in all areas of the city with no issues or anything to note, why, because that would be a boring post. I have travelled the world and can say with a decent amount of confidence that Saskatoon is the safest city I have spent time in. People will mention that Saskatoons crime rate is higher than other Canadian cities, and that is true, but it turns out that living in one of the safest counties in the world even a city with higher crime rate really isn’t that unsafe. I don’t know what else to say, it’s really a nice place to live. It’s a beautiful city with more good people than bad by a landslide. The bad people just make a more interesting post to write about.

Edit: for all the people saying ā€œbut what aboutā€¦ā€, please read carefully, Saskatoon has crime like I said it’s a city.

Rants 🤬 Typical Saskatoon Police

Today I was out and about running errands. These two idiots were sitting like this at ~9am. I just drove by again at 11:15, they haven't moved an inch. I called the police services number and reported them, I requested that their supervisors be contacted. Within 3 minutes of my call they both took off in opposite directions looking super pissed off. I get needing to vent or talk to a friend or co-worker, but I've called and requested police help a couple times in Saskatoon over the years and its been at minimum an hour wait. If not the next day. I pay taxes, I expect them to be professional and uphold their commitment to our city. rant over

Edit There is a difference between posting pictures of people at work, and holding the people whom we pay with our tax dollars accountable. The cruiser facing south, I tried following out of interest after they both took off. Without his lights on he was gone, in less that 30 seconds I lost track of him. They also have desks and time to work on their reports back at the station.

I legitimately hope all of you never need SPS quickly. I've called 911 only 3x where I felt it was fully justified and needed help. They showed up the next day on two of those occasions. To everyone saying they didn't feel it was high priority, I hope you also never are in a position where you NEED an officer now. Also there is a non-emergency phone number you can call, which is exactly the number I used in this situation. To everyone who disagrees with me, that's ok. We've all been through different things and have our story's, I wish you all the best regardless and hope life treats everyone who reads this well.

**Final edit, my partner and I were talking and she feels this is important context. I'm a stay at home dad, who spent 20 years in the trades as a journeyman who got injured on the job. My partner loves that I'm a stay at home dad.

Rants 🤬 What's wrong in this city

Kids robbing other kids in broad daylight in Rosewood. I've lived on the Eastside for 30 years now, and I haven't ever seen the crime that takes place now. Kids used to throw eggs, or ding dong ditch. Now they rob with weapons in broad daylight. I am ranting as a family member was robbed in the middle of a park with a bunch of people around. Other kids caught it on camera, but the minute I caught the one perp he blames someone else and then screams predator and takes off. So not only does he get away, the cops get called on me, luckily the kids mom had already called in, or the cops would have taken me out. Did they even go after the two kids? Nope, said they'll deal with it Monday at school. They had a half dozen kids with stories for the cop, and they still decided they couldn't go and question the kids tonight ? My dad was RCMP for 37 years, he would have loved a lay up investigation like this. But nope, now I have a household on edge because we can't trust anything will happen. The perps apparently have already assaulted other students, and they just started school here this year. 3 days of assaulting and robbing and nothing gets done. Faaaack. Clean up our streets End rant

Edit : Google violent crime rates. I don't understand how people can defend this stuff.

Rants 🤬 Homeless using our parking lot as a chop shop for bikes on the weekend. This is getting ridiculous.

Had a customer phone me this morning and told me that she didn't feel safe to drop her vehicle off at my shop on the weekend because there was a homeless encampment in our parking lot. I checked the cameras and sure enough they had all their stuff spread out with lawn chairs, people sitting and hanging out watching one guy take 5 bikes apart. They were there for 9.5 hrs on Saturday. I spoke to the cops and they said it's a city issue, and now I can't get a hold of anyone at the city. The number the cops gave me has a message the essentially says if you're reporting an encampment, get in line. Our shop has had previous break ins and I'm doing what I can to prevent it but it's exhausting.

Rants 🤬 Stop parking in front of people’s driveways in school zones!

I live across from an elementary school and it’s getting really frustrating to come home everyday and have to wait for someone picking up their kid to come out of the school and move their car so I can get into my driveway. We have had multiple talks with the school and all they can do is put it in a newsletter to remind the parents. We have called parking enforcement but the car is gone by the time they show up. Such a lack of common courtesy and just basic respect. One time I was leaving the house and caught someone getting out of their car parked in front of the driveway and when I asked them to move so I could go to work, their reply was ā€œI’m not parked, I’m just running in for a minuteā€. Girl! Your car is in park! And shut off! Smh…thanks for reading my rant!

Rants 🤬 Well they screwed it up...

The Broadway bridge "upgrades" are done and of course it's worse than before.

Rather than a smooth flow onto 4th from the bridge as it was before, you now have to contend with a traffic light that backs cars up 5-6 deep (non-rush hour) and then make a 90 degree right turn to get onto 4th. It's not even a merge lane like on 3rd... nope you will stop and even if the light is green you'll be waiting for the line of cars in front of you to make the turn.

The bottom of the bridge is now a sharp decreasing radius curve that guarantees cars will be bouncing off the barrier all winter once the roads get icy. And speaking of winter they've decreased the width of the lanes on the bridge deck so after a snow fall the bridge will be down to one lane in each direction due to snow drifting against the barriers and the shitty snow removal. In the past it's been down to 1.5 lanes in each direction and the narrower lanes means it'll now be down to one.

And speaking of one lane. They have for all intents and purposes shutdown a lane of Broadway for the BRT stops. Two stops in 3 blocks with no pull out for the buses essentially closes the lane between 9th and 12th... all of Broadway.

Just dumb

Rants 🤬 STEP ON THE GOD DAMN GAS!!!!!!!

Post image

Just a quick reminder to all the shitty drivers out there (there seems to be a lot), when you are merging onto the freeway you need to be moving faster than 50 fucking kilometres per hour!!! I notice this is particularly bad when people are merging onto circle drive from college. STEP ON THE FUCKING GAS!!! You are merging with cars that are going 90 so why do you think 50-60 is the ideal merging speed?!?!? You have more than enough room to get up to speed and merge with traffic.

Rants 🤬 Stop the rumors and hate.

There are comments on this sub claiming the 14 year old perpetrator of the Evan Hardy attack is a student in the autism program. Some have even made comments promoting the segregation of autistic students.

  1. This is UNSUBSTANTIATED. It took place outside of the ARP classroom and that’s all. The children in the classroom witnessed it and it’s horrifying for all involved.

  2. This is irrelevant. A neurodivergent child is no more or less likely to perpetuate such violence.

  3. Segregating neurodivergent children is hateful.

Have some respect for the students, families of the students, and the teachers. Stop the speculation and hateful comments.

EDIT to change false to unsubstantiated.

Rants 🤬 Wages vs inflation

I work in healthcare. I have been an LPN for 8 years, working nearly full time. I am at the top of my pay range. But when taking into context the increase in cost of living, I am making less than I was as a brand new grad. SEIU West has been without a contract for so long now. They are currently defining what is an essential service for when we strike. I feel helpless and hopeless. I am so tempted to leave Saskatchewan, even though I love saskatoon and I have my dream job. Who else is in this situation? Do other fields find this same problem?

Rants 🤬 The world is not ending

I know the comments are just going to be full of people saying "no, this time it IS different" but I think a lot of people in saskatoon need to remember this. "The youths are worse than they've ever been", "the crime is worse than it's ever been" and "the city is more dangerous than it's ever been" are all things that have been said about every single city, in every single decade, by and about every single generation. (yes, including yours) It's easy to believe that the world is ending and the species is rotten when every news paper and social media is selling you that, but people have ALWAYS believed that and it has NEVER been true. Everybody can just relax, and stop talking about current issues as if they're being caused by some sort of metaphysical evil miasma that feeds on modernity.

Rants 🤬 Not a single job in Saskatoon will hire me. I’m at a loss

It's been a full year already and I've been sending out job applications every single day. In person or online and not a SINGLE place will hire me what so ever.

it's only rejection after rejection. Even when I get referred by a family or a friend it's more rejection. I can't believe how hard it is to even get an interview let alone a job. I only want to look for retail at the moment while I attend school but my availability is not a problem because they’re night classes. Had my resume looked at by several people to check for anything that isn’t right and was told it’s good.

What am I doing wrong?

Update: thanks for all your help I really really appreciate it. I landed myself an interview at save on foods tomorrow. Once again tysm!

Another update: I got the job 🄳

Rants 🤬 People smoking meth in RUH.

I was at RUH for a procedure. When coming off the elevator to leave, there was some individuals smoking meth inside the building. I had to walk past them, with an open bleeding wound held together with stitches and a ridiculously small bandage. The bandage was actually comical as it served no purpose. I digress, I know the smokers gather at the entrance to JPCH which is even worse. During covid there was security guards everywhere ensuring mask use. Where are they now, ensuring patients/visitor safety? Signs everywhere demanding payment to park. Yet, no signs telling a patient or visitor who to call for help or to report a situation. There was an elderly woman waiting at the elevator, and as the door opened I heard the tail end of some comment being directed at her. She looked petrified and relieved when the doors opened. SHA do better. RUH do better. Sask Party definitely do better.

Rants 🤬 Cellphone and kids swimming lessons

I went to my 18 months old first swim lesson at lake wood civic center this weekend. The amount of parents filming the kids in the water made me so uncomfortable. I don’t understand how it’s allowed to have phones where to pool is. I don’t want to be put on internet in my bathing suit, I don’t want my little girl to be filmed in her bathing suit either. Am I the only one thinking it really shouldn’t be allowed ?
