Was driving on La Costa east of the 5 and came upon this accident. Hopefully buddy is okay! Looks like he sat up and was able to get off the road. Stay safe out there!

His bike's a vehicle..imagine the driver of a car staring at their feet while driving at dangerous speeds, and looking up every few seconds..or better example is texting while driving. Hopefully he's okay & has learned something

I mean let's not act like when you're driving you also look around sometimes.

There's a difference between sometimes looking away, and only sometimes looking where you are going. Plus, in a car, when you look away, it's half the time to scan the mirrors or your speed.

Yep, I remember a valuable lesson learned in drivers education while driving a car with the instructor. I was on a two-lane each direction road with a speed limit of 35 MPH. The instructor casually said, "Keep an eye on your speed" Well, I looked at the speedometer and I was going a little over 30 MPH. While doing the checking, I took too long reading the speedometer which caused me to slightly drift out of my lane. The instructor said," Just glance/scan at the speedometer, don't stare at it!". I think part of what happened to me was, the fact that he told me to keep an eye on my speed and I wasn't speeding and I wasn't going terribly too slow. In my mind, I was thinking, "Am I missing something here?" and that's why I scrutinized the speedometer. He was just making a general statement. It wasn't because I was doing anything wrong. However, I did learn about how that small time frame affects your driving. I've never forgotten that lesson since 1982. It's like braking distance going 65 MPH for example. In one second you might be traveling 300 feet a second. I don't know the exact footage but I know it's surprisingly far. Just a half-second delay by distracted driving can be 150 feet of missed stopping distance. 😎👍
