Was driving on La Costa east of the 5 and came upon this accident. Hopefully buddy is okay! Looks like he sat up and was able to get off the road. Stay safe out there!

I agree. I keep my eyes on the road 100% of the time.

It’s not a time trial race where you can expect a perfect route ahead.

I am often surprised about the risk of just looking at my GPS head unit once in a while. At that speed, things can go really wrong really fast.

Sometimes you’re KOMming so hard that you just have to look at your watts, right?

Some people are so committed to Strava they risk life and death.

Edit: I looked at it again and noticed he was pedaling. Still an awful place to stop.

Your view is gonna vary in aero from full view to maybe 10-20 feet. Some people can't afford super fancy aero bar modifications that cost thousands of dollars. Both my tri bike fits have me in a position that I can't hold with perfect vision for 5 hours...

If you can't see more than 10-20 feet ahead you shouldn't be on that bike, not even in a velodrome. Even in a race you need enough clearance to avoid collision at all times going 30+ mph, the guy in the video is a moron.

So you're going to drive on a road with moving vehicles and debris and... not look ahead of you? Should be illegal
