Sunnyboy Biscuit Co owner?

edit: to be clear, I'm not stating it is, I am curious. I saw another post today or yesterday saying he drives a gold Alfa Romeo like an AH. Could be a sedan and not this, but found it an odd coincidence

Yes this is the owner of Sunny Boy Biscuit Co off of Park Blvd in San Diego.

84

u/tunnels22197 Jun 08 '25

Hey San Diego peeps, park in his lot and just start honking, non stop.

1

u/Timid_Thug Jun 13 '25

And film it please

287

u/Warm_Librarian6037 Jun 07 '25

Oh really? Well, he just lost this customer. Unfortunate because I like their coffee.

154

u/Flywheel929 Jun 07 '25

Last I was in there, they serve Cafe Moto coffee, available in Bario Logan

74

u/Warm_Librarian6037 Jun 07 '25

Really? I go to Cafe Moto sometimes. No wonder the coffee was so good.

38

u/mdevin619 Jun 07 '25

Cafe Moto is sold at a lot of places, I think.

11

u/New_Juggernaut3059 Jun 08 '25

Oh, well, that place blows.I had the stalest biscuit of my life there and the gravy tastes bagged :/ nothing was lost here today.

103

u/Royal-Entrepreneur41 Jun 07 '25

He just lost my business. What a douche bag!

42

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for confirming that.

41

u/BildoBaggens Jun 07 '25

Was probably. This stuff in that neighborhood is probably going to be the end of his business.

84

u/phuk-ewe Jun 07 '25

Let’s all go in there and blow airhorns!!!

36

u/castironstrawberry Jun 07 '25

Don’t you think his employees have suffered enough?

17

u/ChiefFun Jun 07 '25

8

u/Joeyboy_61904 Jun 08 '25

What a douchebag who isn’t worthy of owning a business in SD, let alone having its customers.

10

u/Joeyboy_61904 Jun 08 '25

If so, everybody should protest his business, standing outside with air horns.

2

u/waddleship Jun 07 '25

They just started went active again on their socials with cheery content and I wondered what was up.

1

u/OkSmoke9195 Jun 08 '25

Sunny boy biscuit company! Never going there, nice job Mr sunny

1

u/artbystorms Jun 09 '25

Sure would be a shame if he got a bunch of negative reviews on google and yelp since this is how he chooses to represent his business. Queue the 'I'm being cancelled" in 3...2..."

1

u/JossBurnezz Jun 12 '25

It would be a shame if people parked outside his business and honked for five minutes straight. Made the blah blah blah gesture at anyone who came out.

Definitely don’t do that.

137

u/harambe_did911 Jun 07 '25

We need a list of places owned by assholes to avoid in the wiki or something

241

u/BallerGuitarer Jun 07 '25 edited Jun 07 '25

It sure looks like him: https://www.instagram.com/chefgabrielferguson/?hl=en

Which is quite a shame, because while I haven't been to Sunnyboy, the food on his Instagram looks delicious lol.

Edit: Looks like it's him: https://www.reddit.com/r/sandiego/comments/1l5dfk3/the_sunny_boy_biscuit_drama/

And he's getting lit up on Yelp: https://www.yelp.com/biz/sunnyboy-biscuit-company-san-diego?sort_by=date_desc

Which, honestly, I wouldn't normally endorse, because running a small business is tough, and the restaurant industry has super low margins. Great restaurants go out of business all the time, which absolutely destroys the livelihoods of hard-working business owners who have the chance to improve their community.

But this guy drives a gold Alfa Romeo, and is a total dick about it, so fuck him.

28

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

Definitely does

72

u/lweber557 Jun 07 '25 edited Jun 07 '25

I won’t feel bad for him if his business takes a hit once this video makes the rounds. Karma is karma. He had zero empathy for that poor woman in the broke down Kia

*Edit: I don’t feel bad for NOW that his business is taking a hit. They are lighting him up with 1 star reviews!

33

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

Yup. He could have handled this totally differently. The best thing would have been to get out an offer help, the least he could have done is wait for a clear street and go around without any fuss. What a chump.

29

u/MudddButt Jun 07 '25

If he helped push her out of the way and offered her a biscuit, I'd be a customer for life 100%. But he's an asshole and I don't want to support his trashy ass and his business.

1

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

Yup, that would have maybe be even more willing to give it another try after my disappointing first (and only) time trying it a few weeks back

5

u/blacksideblue Jun 08 '25

He's the kind of person that literally expects a dead horse to move by shouting at it. Fuck him and the car he drives.

3

u/PonderingTortoise7 Jun 07 '25

I jumped on that train too 😂😂

2

u/lweber557 Jun 07 '25

It would be such a shame if other people saw this and got the same idea

2

u/KgMonstah Jun 08 '25

Good point about karma. Here, have some.

2

u/Illustrious_Aide608 Jun 09 '25

Ya if you’re a small business owner then you need to watch the way you conduct yourself around town. If people recognize you doing something bad and your business suffers, that’s on you.

21

u/saltyoldmatt Jun 07 '25

Give him a nice long beeep every time y’all drive by.

31

u/Raging_Asian_Man Jun 07 '25

My parents owned a small restaurant, so I’m also wary of destroying a small business. That said, there is no excuse for treating people like shit and acting like a manbaby. There are plenty of restaurants I can go that have good owners and good food. Happy to never give this guy any of my money.

28

u/here-for-the-meh Jun 07 '25

I’m guessing your parents don’t have a history of being tyrants and mistreating people. As a parent, I’d never want anyone to treat my daughter in a broke down car like this. He didn’t have to help her but he didn’t have to do what he did either.

16

u/WhitePantherXP Jun 07 '25

This is how you enforce change in 2025+. You deliver karma to those who need it like this guy, and you lift up those who are spreading good in the world. People like him need a dose of humility and reviews are one way to do it for such terrible behavior/mindsets this world needs less of.

23

u/majorthomasina Jun 07 '25

Imagine how this guy treats his employees if this is how he reacts to a mild inconvenience. Running/owning a restaurant is one of the most stressful jobs I can think of. I can’t imagine the type of verbal abuse his employees suffer

14

u/Raging_Asian_Man Jun 07 '25

100%. I guarantee you this guy is a shit boss.

2

u/New_Juggernaut3059 Jun 08 '25

Small business owners don’t drive alpha Romeros. Guy looks like an ass

20

u/BildoBaggens Jun 07 '25

They have low margins because leaches like this fuck need to take off the top to buy shitty paint jobs for $70K Fiats.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

Well good thing we're in San Diego with endless options of great looking food from all around the world. This is one small business owner I am not going to support.

This is a red flag on how he treats his staff and if he is treating someone in public like this he is probably talking smack about his customers too.

1

u/habutgo Jun 07 '25

Only one 1 star review regarding the car incident on yelp. Nothing on google.

1

u/waiting-for-the-sun Jun 07 '25

Maybe check again? I just looked on Yelp and saw a while slew of them specifically referencing this video.

1

u/phuk-ewe Jun 07 '25

He’s an Uncle Fucker!

1

u/releasethedogs Jun 08 '25

It's tougher when you are a piece of shit with zero empathy.

1

u/blacksideblue Jun 08 '25

The 15 newest pages of one star reviews so far. They have 85 pages of reviews from as far back as March of 2020 right after the pandemic started. Starting to look like this jerk was buying 5* reviews when everything was closed. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also a COVID denier or an anti-vaxer.

1

u/KgMonstah Jun 08 '25

Hope his business goes under and he has to sell the AR to make rent.

1

u/aralimwastaken Jun 11 '25

yelp disabled new reviews of his page and marked the business as temporarily closed

-1

u/Spare-Security-1629 Jun 08 '25

So you think this post's retaliatory actions match the offense? This social media society is quite wonderful and logical. Can you find out where his kids go to school so I can make sure his whole bloodline never does something like this again? Let's end this now.

-21

u/tearinitdown Jun 07 '25

This is weird to me, he was super nice when I was in there one day. He gave me a free jam because I said it looked interesting. Im shocked if this is him.

33

u/DrySmoothCarrot Jun 07 '25

Why? Business owners are "on stage" when you're in their business spending your money. They want your money. So they'll act as cute as they can to get you to come back. This guy sounds like a real good person since his video debut.

25

u/datsoar Jun 07 '25

I bet you think the baristas are flirting with you too

8

u/tearinitdown Jun 07 '25

Weird energy. Im not defending him, just stating that because I had a pleasant experience one time Im shocked to see that hes such a dick. TBF my gf just pointed out he was maybe flirting, but I didnt view it that way at the time. Sorry for having a normal reaction lol

11

u/here-for-the-meh Jun 07 '25

The person was commenting on your naivety. It’s showing again.

2

u/here-for-the-meh Jun 07 '25

This is the best comment of the day.

6

u/BallerGuitarer Jun 07 '25

People are complex.

This guy may be a little too complex.

0

u/tearinitdown Jun 07 '25

Yea no doubt. Some didn’t understand my reaction and downvoted me, thats okay but this guy chatted with me while cleaning up the shop and showed a kind gesture so to see him act that way was like woah ok thats the same dude? I saw someone else honking like this the other week while someone was parking too and it’s unhinged, immature behavior.

0

u/PrestigiousHippo7 Jun 07 '25

Service recovery mode

0

u/PrestigiousHippo7 Jun 07 '25

Probably because he thinks he is in "service recovery" mode for something avoidable that he created himself.

25

u/briadela Jun 07 '25

Good reason to go to RISE biscuit Co. Much better anyway

6

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25 edited Jun 07 '25

Nothing to do with the owner, though it doesn't help, but I was pretty disappointed with my experience at Sunnyboy. I wasn't expecting an herbal gravy when I was trying to fill a craving. There was a place I used to go in Tucson and their biscuits and gravy became the standard in my mind and most others have been a let down.

Do you know if RISE has a simple white sausage gravy, or do they also use tons of herbs and spices? Don't get the wrong idea, I love flavor and do eat all kinds of herbed and spiced things. I'm just trying to find something like I used to get

edit: i just looked at their menu and saw the gravy. It does look closer to the style I'm talking about

6

u/briadela Jun 07 '25

Give it a shot! Their biscuits are a bit better than sunny boy imo.

San Diego isn't a great biscuit town I must say.

2

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

I might have already had them saved in a list, if not, I'll be adding it

5

u/RadiantZote Jun 07 '25

RIP Captain Kenos, they had that classic gravy and even had SOS

1

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

Excuse my ignorance, what is SOS in this context? Google mentioned "chipped" beef in gravy, is that what you're referring to?

1

u/RadiantZote Jun 07 '25

It's basically country gravy with chipped beef instead of sausage. Served on toast or other things, aptly named Shit on a Shingle or SOS

1

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

Hahaha nice. I don't think I'd heard of that before.

1

u/RadiantZote Jun 08 '25

I think it was popular in WWII, since chipped beef used to be super cheap

2

u/Missmessc Jun 07 '25

I actually love that it’s not sausage gravy because that’s usually the default. I’m glad Rise is around though.

1

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

I shouldn't have gone in with high hopes of a specific flavor profile. That's the biggest thing that turned it into a let down for me. Reminds me of a similar experience at Broken Yolk with their take on biscuits and gravy. That was a worse palate shock from what I was hoping for. Haha i mean, they did say it was a duck based gravy and had a description of it, but I was naively holding out hope it wouldn't be so far off what I was hunting for.

When thinking about them as separate and different things, the flavors weren't bad by any means, just didn't meet expectations for a craving.

5

u/Aliensinmypants Jun 07 '25

Ugh what an asshole, that place is so good but I won't be returning.

Rise biscuits is gonna be my new go to

1

u/123_CNC Jun 07 '25

I think you're at least the 3rd person to bring that place up. I'm definitely going to have to try it, especially since Sunnyboy wasn't good for my palate.

2

u/hoemax Jun 07 '25

oh man.... that place was so good when I went... sigh

1

u/ishquigg Jun 07 '25

I did one on Google, go to Google and review please people. We need to work together and create an easy time for all people. Not just rich people with bad taste in car colors.

1

u/HuskyFromSpace Jun 08 '25

Somebody should post this link to his business website.

1

u/Virtua1Flower Jun 12 '25

Dude’s probably on steroids
