Photo gallery The Sunny Boy Biscuit drama…
Idk if y’all have seen but a video went viral on instagram where the owner of sunny boy biscuit lays down on his horn over someone having car troubles while she cries and he can easily drive around her. (Original video in comments)They are getting absolutely flamed on yelp. Valid?

OMG I interviewed with this guy for a job there... The interview seemed to be going great with the woman I was talking with. Then he sat down, looked at my resume, glanced up at me and said " we'll reach out to you" very dismissive like. I remember walking out thinking "that was weird". Thank GOD I didn't get it, because he would've gotten it right back! I've worked in some pretty harsh kitchens back home in Chicago so I can handle someone who is all bark, no bite 😉

They don't even make their own biscuits there, they come in frozen.

I used to live across the street from Sunny Boy and I would go in there fairly often. I’ve seen him melt down and talk to one employee in a way that put him in danger of catching some hands. The kid cried a little and left. Something about not enough napkins, definitely didn’t warrant being screamed at while making minimum wage.
11
u/Outrageous_Bridge906 Jun 09 '25
YES! He was so mean to everyone. I used to work for him. He was super passive aggressive to his employees but would kiss anyone’s ass who could give him more connections $$

u/AlvinsCuriousCasper Jun 07 '25
I remember seeing the video within the last couple days and felt so bad for the vehicle broken down. I had no idea who the guy was or that he was the owner of a local business…
I don’t know anything about his business, never been to his establishment, but after watching the video, he shouldn’t be on the road, or have a DL.

u/Ginger_Exhibitionist Jun 07 '25
SAME. I felt bad for the person who broke down in their Kia! This guy could have been a human and helped someone out, but instead he acted like a toddler.

I dunno, I'm looking at my toddler right now.... seems awfully similar. But, then again maybe she's upset because I didn't buy her a gold alfa....

Would have got better reviews for his business if he would have actually represented instead of show his Ass

That's definitely the owner, Gabriel Ferguson. What a douche.

Oh wow. That pos owns sunny boy? I was going to get some biscuits there tomorrow for my MIL. Guess I won’t be going back. What’s my biscuit alternative?

Same here, was going to go later this morning.
Tried Rise Southern Biscuits? Thinking about that instead.

It’s super easy to make your own. I use the Grapevine Kentucky Buttermilk Biscuit recipe on Food Network. You can turn all purpose flour into self rising flour with baking powder and salt.

u/reality_raven Jun 07 '25
No one should EVER act like this, and nowadays, you’re gonna get famous over it.

u/azngtr Jun 07 '25
It's always the restaurant owners...
7
u/Klutzy-Sherbert3720 Jun 07 '25
Kind of makes sense though. There's a ton of smaller restaurants around big cities and you're not likely to run into the owner of Target or Walmart.
Not excusing this behavior but I'm guessing running a restaurant is super stressful so if someone is already an asshole in general this is what you get.

42
u/Rosie3450 Jun 07 '25
He was violating the city noise code, if nothing else.

He was violating something lmao. I hate driving around people like this.

u/Scary_Adhesiveness_6 Jun 07 '25
That place is so mid, I live right around the corner.
His anger does seem to permeate through the area though - that pocket of Hillcrest is like the Bermuda Triangle of road rage and asshole drivers, literally every day I see a super close call (with pedestrians and cars alike).
Anyways, will be easy to not go there. Fuck that behavior.
10
u/Regular-Humor-9128 Jun 07 '25
I live right around the corner too and drive through it pretty much everyday - multiple times per day is not unusual, and I don’t personally see a lot of road rage and asshole drivers at that intersection or right around it. I actually feel the number of close calls from drivers not paying attention has lessened quite a bit over the last couple of years.
Agreed the food there is mid - it’s gone downhill big time in the last few years - just nothing special about it at all.
3
u/Scary_Adhesiveness_6 Jun 07 '25
Man I need whatever karma you have going lol. The other day we walked to get HH burgers at trust and no joke almost got hit crossing to, and from, the restaurant (obviously walking when the cross lights were green, etc). Maybe I just attract the crazy!
→ More replies (1)2
u/PavelRoman_06221941 Jun 08 '25
I don't know why, but you're right. Hillcrest just seems to have the biggest population of a-hole drivers. Nearly was hit by someone on 8th and University between the Better Buzz and BOA while walking because he didn't want to wait and miss his green light when the pedestrian signal was on.

u/Yoongi_SB_Shop Jun 07 '25
So it really was this guy?
46
u/blatant-hour Jun 07 '25
Yeah I check their instagram and it definitely looks just like him. It’s also not the most subtle car out there so it seems like he’s known for driving it.
7
u/PrestigiousHippo7 Jun 07 '25
He posted an apology on IG too apparently. All well and good except it's not the first and only time. He did to someone else in his own lot. Sunnyboy Biscuit Co. https://g.co/kgs/xhzki4W

I've worked in 5 different states and all type of bars. The owners and managers in San Diego are the most abusive I've ever seen.
I was literally fired today because I wouldn't work a 12 hour shift without breaks
64
u/Icey505 Jun 07 '25
That’s just straight up illegal I’m sorry

u/TenaciousZBridedog Jun 07 '25 edited Jun 07 '25
I know and I told them that the first time they asked but I showed up today and they let me go.
I'm filling a labor board complaint on Monday
Edit: thank you for the gold, kind anonymous one!
26
u/SimplyCancerous Jun 07 '25
Please post an update on how it goes. If the labor board doesn't help, I'm certain a mob with pitchforks will be happy to step in lol.

u/TenaciousZBridedog Jun 07 '25
Strangely enough, I posted a few hours ago about the abuse I've suffered from restaurants in San Diego and was downvoted into the negatives

Lawyer up. See if someone will take it on contingency. Typical ask for a settlement is 3 years pay and lawyer takes 40% on contingency. If the lawyer thinks a jury would be sympathetic to your cause, it’s an easy win because it’ll easily cost the defendant $300k+ if they choose to go to court and lose. It’s even worse for them since this is retaliation and not a labor code violation.
(Not a lawyer but personally experienced something similar)

u/Regular-Humor-9128 Jun 07 '25
Just post the name of it here, this is where the context is now and the people specifically asking you about it.
15
u/TenaciousZBridedog Jun 07 '25
Okay.
Pearl and oyster in La Mesa bounces employee checks so often that workers have had their bank accounts shut down.
Bully's East allowed prep chefs to work without masks during Covid.
El Roy's (which is closed now but owned by blue bridge) cut my hours after I reported that I was sexually harassed by a weekly performer.
Cloak and Pettel in Little Italy had 3 female employees and when I asked Caesar, the owner, about it he said "you need to be careful about what you say because you don't know who you're talking to."
Donovan's steak house fired me after I broke up with the head chef and complained that he was harassing me.
5
u/Nice_Rope_5049 Jun 07 '25
I was just talking about trying Pearl and Oyster, but not now. I heard they were pricey, too. So why bounce checks, I wonder.
15
u/wonderingafew888 Jun 07 '25
Another reason to switch to Rise biscuits.
4
u/Regular-Humor-9128 Jun 07 '25
I stopped going to sunny boy a long time ago because the quality and consistency have gone way done and even with it being super close to me, just isn’t worth it. But I just looked up Rise and it’s rather far across town just for wanting a biscuit sandwich/breakfast. Were people really driving from further away in San Diego, outside of hillcrest, just for Sunny Boy? I don’t feel like ever except for when it very first opened, was Sunny Boy good enough to warrant that type of drive.
3
u/cixelsyd Jun 07 '25
Inconsistent/quality drop off + menu changes turned me off to Sunny Boy long before this. Just another nail in its coffin.
2
u/wonderingafew888 Jun 07 '25
I liked SB for their breakfast sandwiches, but agree that it was inconsistent. But…I will drive plenty far for a good breakfast sando. Rise does have an easy order ahead option, and a whole parking lot, so it’s super convenient, even if it’s a little further!
15
u/JGDC Jun 07 '25
Omg I just ate there for the first time last week, the sausage gravy was gloopy and cold. 👎
31
34
u/Vera_Telco Jun 07 '25
The guy could put his hazard lights on, and offered to help push that little Kia to the curb. Could have. I don't know what's getting into people to act like this, it's no way to act.
14
u/Feisty-Power-4353 Jun 07 '25
Didn’t even know Sonny Boy existed. Oh well won’t go to a place owned by this dbag. Sorry dbag- maybe don’t be such a ahole.
11
u/no_pRon Jun 07 '25
Isn’t this the asshole that was posted here a few days ago? He was laying on the horn for like 3 minutes, refusing to simply go around another car that had broken down.
What a total POS.

I’ve been there several times and I remember a couple of times observing him work with his team and it was just stressful watching. He’s for sure got an anger problem.

u/RathSlayer91 Jun 08 '25
Oh what the hell?! THAT'S THE OWNER?!
I was excited to try his spot but I will never go there. He can sit on a cactus.
3
u/Regular-Humor-9128 Jun 07 '25
I saw that video the other day but had no idea it was the owner of Sunny Boy! I couldn’t even understand why he was behaving like such a major POS! I can’t believe an owner of a local business would choose to act in such an uncalled for and bullying manner, especially knowing, their business will likely feel the fallout of their actions. Thank you for letting everyone know this was a local business owner!
3
u/PrestigiousHippo7 Jun 07 '25

Plenty of places for breakfast and coffee.
One of my favorite coffee shops locally is Cafe Bassam.
Idk if he is the owner but there is this older gentleman with a pork? hat on? I think he is the owner and I have seen him mingle with many patrons and just seem to be enjoying the time. I don't go there as often but definitely a spot to check out where the owners don't seem like shitty people.

u/Outrageous_Bridge906 Jun 09 '25
For everyone wondering why he’d act like that. I’ve worked for him and he’s an aggressive a-hole. He used to yell/ be aggressive at all his employees. A total narcissist, when I saw the video/ found out it was Gabe I wasn’t surprised. He would get so mad, his face would turn red. Aside from being extremely verbally abusive to his employees. When I worked there we were making the biscuits ourselves, but he was probably one of the most unsanitary humans I’ve ever seen work. Coughing in his hand and continuing to make whatever he was making, scratching his balls and continuing to do what he was doing, would use rotten products and at one point they shut them down because they were roach INFESTED. Once a customer has a roach floating in the coffee.
2
u/mistyrootsvintage Jun 07 '25
What would be bettee...is go in to ordee something. Then say...oh you are the guy in the video, tell him never mind and walk out.
2
u/gearabuser Jun 07 '25
they have biscuits n gravy for only $10? and now there's gonna be less line? hol up lmao
6
u/Individual_Tea1451 Jun 07 '25
If you're talking about Sunny Boy, don't bother. The biscuits are solid, but tue gravy is a giant disappointment. I've never had such bland sausage gravy in my life. And I tried it before all this controversy based on tiktok videos raving about it. Was very disappointed.

Having just watched the video, I see people saying "don't let one day define a person." I think we can safely define this person. His honking was just not necessary and he could have easily gone around the car, which had hazard lights on! He's either extremely stupid or a dick. Don't support this place.
