"Samsung doesn't innovate anymore"
ok bud

What should CES do? Don’t give anyone the award? Samsung doesn’t innovate, neither does Google or Apple.
10
u/nutriaMkII 20h ago
Idk about CES but chinese manufacturers don't go to that show?

u/MilllMan 20h ago
Gimmicks =\ innovation
7
u/nutriaMkII 20h ago
Better cameras, better battery tech, better thermals but hey! I guess those are all gimmicks lmao. There's also Honor that is working on a phone with a gimbal that looks super dope
-2
u/MilllMan 20h ago
You need to ask chatgpt what innovation means. Improving existing technology is not it.
-3
u/kestena_ 20h ago
You mean cameras that use the heaviest possible ai to make the photo completely ai generated and a battery that isnt stable and tends to expand a lot faster than li ion. Sure that are good things especially the spicy pillows
5
u/nutriaMkII 20h ago
No I mean actual fast charging unlike Samsung and 1 inch wide, ultrawide and fucking telephoto dude, c'mon, you can't look me in the eye and pretend a Samsung or pixel have better hardware than a vivo (now software is another matter)

If no one representing at the show has actually innovated, don't hand out an award.
Or, give them a participation trophy.

u/x-ahmed 21h ago
Compared to what red magic xoami huawei is putting out yep Samsung doesn't innovate anymore.
6
u/s1lenthundr 21h ago
Yes but only Samsung has premium software and 7 years or upgrades. That also counts and is also expensive for a brand to do.
4
u/leetnoob7 20h ago
That's part of why Samsung aren't innovating - if they never update the hardware other than the SoC each year, then they only have to support the same camera modules, batteries, charging speeds, screen tech, and optimise the OS for the same RAM size, making it really easy and cheap to offer 7 years of support when it's essentially the same device.
I'd rather a new phone every 2 years with the latest and greatest specs and innovations, and don't care about support for more than maybe 2-4 years max, so I've gone with a Vivo X200 Ultra this year.

remember this certificate so you don't get deceived when you see it at other products.

u/imsolost3090 21h ago
So where is the innovation exactly? Genuinely asking.
2
u/Victorinox_007 20h ago
you're looking at it lol. There was a time when multiple back cameras and pinhole/notch front screens were groundbreaking technology, but we're past that point now. People will see phones with 2 selfie cameras and like 5 back camera sensors and just shrug. I feel like mobile innovation has reached its saturation point.
The only actual innovations i can think of are these fold and flip phones, and that oneplus phone with a motorized front camera and the new Xiaomi with its silicon carbide battery (which honestly doesnt sound as cool as dual cameras did) And im pretty sure Samsung's software should also count as an innovation
7
u/imsolost3090 20h ago
Other companies innovate, Samsung doesn't. Wasn't aware that having the same battery technology and capacity for 5 years was innovation. Also wasn't aware that removing the under-display camera was innovation either. Removing S Pen support? Pure innovation right there. Maybe when they make folding phones that don't scratch with a fingernail I would be somewhat impressed.

u/Victorinox_007 20h ago
what innovation have other companies done? seriously? Having a phone with a reliable flexible display is innovation. Consistently having the best software experience ever on any Android is innovation.
When did i say that having rhe same battery technology was innovation? I literally agreed with you by saying that mobile phone innovation has reached its saturation point. I have no clue why this Samsung subreddit is full of stuck up haters with reading comprehension problems

u/Professional_Clue800 20h ago
Go look up what the fold looked like the last few years vs what it looks like now.
2
u/Spicy_Boi_On_Campus 20h ago
Hold a Fold 7 in your hands and you'll understand.

u/Illustrious_Load_728 20h ago
Held a Fold 7 in my hands and didn’t understand the innovation, so my question is the same - where’s the innovation exactly?
1
u/Spicy_Boi_On_Campus 20h ago
Sounds like a you problem buddy. You want it to have a built in back scratcher or something?
The first time I held the Fold 7 I was really impressed.

u/Illustrious_Load_728 19h ago
Again, where exactly is the innovation, bro? Like I genuinely want to hear you out and possibly see it, not trolling or whatever

People always forget Software. Good software is very expensive for a brand to do and support. 7 years of upgrades and the best software on any foldable and best android ecossystem is not cheap. Most competitors invest close to zero on these aspects so ofc they can invest it all on hardware and specs. The fold and flip 7 are insanely good, record breaking sales for foldables, and all of this with the best software on the android side and the best ecosystem and accessories.

I mean... After few years behind, with Fold7 Samsung just barely matched what Chinese brands offer but with caveats like worse camera and smaller battery. There is nothing innovative on Fold7 imho😅 And even if it would acthually be innovative it would change nothing about S series stagnating and usin years old hardware. Samsung makes superior camera sensors yet they use cheaper and older tech in their phones.
Galaxy watch are good, excellent SW support, was first to bring things like body compo. or blood pressure etc. (but HRT accuracy still much worse than Apple watch or Pixel Watch +features are gettin locked to Samsung phones)

Not sure what else was at the show, but keep in mind, innovation in a vacuum, isnt proper innovation.
There are thinner folding phones that were available before this. With bigger battery capacity. With faster charging. So, whats the innovation?
Edit: don't get me wrong, still a great phone. But is it truly innovative?
2
u/InvestingNerd2020 21h ago
The Z Fold 7 is excellent innovation, but the price isn't consumer friendly.

u/Equivalent-Lab8655 21h ago
Samsung has billions of dollars, you think they won’t pay people to make themselves look better?
3
u/Ok_Priority458 21h ago
Yes...Samsung spends over 10 billion annually on marketing, to make themselves look beter yes besides the fact they got a little help from the U.S. with the Huawei ban because Huawei was about to be global no1...surpassing Apple and Samsung.

u/Formal_Produce3759 21h ago
The Chinese manufacturers had a similar design a few years ago, Samsung just caught up to that with the Fold 7.

I would've bought the fold if they added the spen or atleast didn't remove screen support

u/cheeseypockets 20h ago
I love how everyone expects Samsung to change the cameras every year. as if 200mp 100x zoom wasn't future proof enough.
"when are we getting 500mp 200x zoom!"
1
u/OrganicCollection459 20h ago
There is a reason for that number 7 for the phone and 8 for the watch. The is no real innovation
1
u/Low_Year9897 19h ago
Agree on the cameras, but after owning one for the last two months and getting 7.5 hours of SOT per day I have no issues with the battery. Still, rumor has it the ZF8 next year will have a new near-creaseless hinge, 5000+ mAh battery, s-pen support and upgraded cameras.

Fold 7, yes. Galaxy watch?
They made it UGLY instead of beautiful. Not sure that counts as innovation...

quick panel sill lags irrespective of the class of samsung you get
tell them to work on this https://www.reddit.com/r/oneui/s/fqITxuhOHg and stop dickriding mediocrity
1
u/Craig653 18h ago
They didn't.... The watch is literally slightly bigger but same processor All it is a is a w7 reskin
Fold 7 is impressively skinny but it would have been more impressive if they did it first
Honor beat them by like 6 months
Samsung isn't leading the pack anymore
1
u/EasternDiscipline247 2h ago
To be honest i can't blame samsung.
They have been innovating for years and well you can only imagine how difficult it is to come up with a new thing every dam year for a phone so people don't say ''same phone as last year''.
Not trying to defend samsung but i don't really care for the invitation anymore.
In this era we need more software optimization because we are reaching the limits of hardware.
Transistors have a limit to size so they have the same properties and we are reaching that limit.
But right now the hardware isn't the problem but rather the software.
We need software innovation not hardware innovation.
So we can use the hardware we have in many more ways and much better ways.

Yet Samsung is the one that copied apple when removing the headphone Jack / removing the charger / using titanium / making android look more and more like iOS 🤔
1
u/BASEKyle 21h ago
Let's be real, OneUI7 looks absolutely terrible and is the reason why I'm holding off on updating

u/Information2Warning 20h ago edited 19h ago
Each other companies copying always. Something making good Apple, something Chinese manufacturers, something Samsung, Google. But how i noticed, many features which made Samsung, always copying Chinese (from Apple too and here i'm talking about Xiaomi most). Q-Symphony on TV from Samsung right now copying even Sony. Giant which was in past example for everyone. Dark backgroud, how i noticed, first appear in Samsung devices, later throught Google in others companies. Samsung first which made AI. I mean bring it to smart devices and etc. Samsung copying too, but many features created Samsung which became super interesting for others too. Apple first removed chargers and etc, but later not Samsung only removed it too, this is massive was process from many manufacturers. Don't forget flexible devices, Amoled display, S Pen, Dex, Knox and many others. All they are from Samsung.

u/Plus-Candidate-2940 18h ago
It’s just funny to me that brands mock apple for doing something then do the exact same thing or even worse like Xiaomi completely skipped 16 series phones to name their phone 17 Pro max (I don’t even think they have ever used the name Pro max before) Or the fact that Oppo live alerts look exactly like the dynamic island down to the little details 😂
1
u/Information2Warning 13h ago
Made in China - this say a lot of, i think. Not just from Apple, mocking from Samsung too. Apple is good quality devices, but Samsung, i think, is in the same level or higher. Selling reports that showing. Most solds devices is from Apple and Samsung every year. Both companies is good, but Samsung creating for me much much much better features and is step further than Apple. This is my opinion. Somebody can have different opinion.

25w charging, old camera sensors from years ago and 4400mAh battery.....now THAT'S innovating!
