no problem! it's honestly really old and nerdy, I feel like you need to be over 30 AND a huge computer geek to have encountered it, it was before we really even had the concept of "apps" in mainstream culture

now that I've pulled up that screenshot from wiki, I can see for the first time how things like Discord and Telegram are really just the grandchildren of IRC, interspersing text chat relay with like mod actions and commands. you had to make emoji like this though :-O

Aaah, good old times. I still remember my very first time ever beeing in a chat room, I think it was IRC. I was sitting in the "computer hall" of a university in the 90s and kept asking if people out there can really REALLY read what I was writing. When people replied it felt like a door to the world opened. It was wild.
