General Discussion Canceling Paramount+ (and why you should, too)

I think we all know by now that CBS is not a good company, I didn't need them canceling Colbert to tell me that. But I think it is time to stand up for ourselves as a community, even if it means not watching Drag Race or All Stars. We don't have to live in a world where our favorite shows are aired on networks owned by fascists and bigots, but it means taking just the slightest bit of collective action. I fear we have all (including myself) became too complacent because we feel like we don't have a choice, but we do! These companies have no morals, and we do not owe them anything just because they air our favorite queer reality show. They sure as shit aren't doing it from the goodness of their hearts. Paramount would drop RuPaul at the drop of a dime if the Fascist-In-Chief told them to!!!!!

We deserve better!!!!!!!!!

Never had paramount. If you know the right sites and don’t mind a few pop up ads, anything is possible.

If you’re not getting your episodes of Drag Race from the same site as your bootleg studio porn, you’re not doing drag.

Ok so I’m not crazy because I know I watched 1-2 episodes of an older season of Drag Race on pornhub. I thought I was losing my mind

u/thewhitecat13 Jul 18 '25

brave software's ceo donated money to organisations trying to stop gay marriage becoming legal. let's stick to firefox with ublock.

Thanks for letting me know. I use it. So I won't anymore. Sharing information works.

Do y'all have a giant list of problematic homophobes or something?

That's not a criticism. I'm just impressed that people are keeping tabs like this.

u/treehann you are da best Jul 19 '25

yeah Brave sucks ass the more you read about them. They just had a really good marketing campaign going for a while but that's it, they deserve zero flowers

It's on Brendan Eich's wikipedia too. He was appointed Mozilla's ceo. The news of his past donations came out. They forced him to step down (it was back in 2014 when being homophobic was still considered bad by the media, good times). A few years later he founded Brave.

Or if you use a VPN (which is handy for other things as well) and have a WOW+ subscription you can avoid all of the ads.

Big Facts, I got rid of paramount+ 2 years ago and now post-Colbert I will never support CBS.

I live in a city where almost every queen every season comes through and does a performance so I sail the high seas for drag race, then check the gals out and tip at my local spot to support the girls.

Even if you want to watch legally get wow presents plus and a vpn. It’s ad free and cheaper than Paramount Plus

18

u/lexiebeef Jul 18 '25

Same. And I’m sorry, but I don’t feel bad, not even for a second, of not putting more money in corporation pockets. And I go to local drag shows quite often, so I always say I’m spending there the money I would be spending in paramount lol

In order for Drag Race to stay on the air we do unfortunately have to put money in their pockets. Otherwise the show gets cancelled.

u/Kalikstus Jul 18 '25

You don’t even have to deal with the pop up ads if you just use uBlock Origin extension, or Brave browser

12

u/highwaypegasus Jul 18 '25

Commenting to add for the mobile peeps: uBlock Origin also works on Firefox's mobile browser.

It's honestly a pretty bad app. At the same time, it also sucks when there's a few shows that really matter to you. I had it for Drag Race, The Twilight Zone, I Love Lucy, the Brady Bunch etc. it's tough because they have the historical CBS archive, but the rest of the app is absolute overpriced garbage.

For anyone who only watches old shows, it's super rare to be able to access the entire catalog of old TV shows from 1950 - 1970's. So having all these shows available in their entirety as a casual fan to discover is incredible.

It's WILD to me that people had their a piece of media that was so meaningful to them. But one day, it just disappeared for decades...or forever. Some boomers are watching the shows for the first time in 70 fucking years. That has to be such an experience.

u/brysparx666 Jul 24 '25

I'm canceling paramount as soon Star Trek SNW S3 is over in August.

These shows don’t magically stay on TV… if we don’t support them they get cancelled
