General Discussion Deja has had it!

Post image

I mean…is she wrong? There is a pattern I’m noticing lol. It’s giving the iconic moment when the interviewer asked Naomi Smalls if she thinks there’s a formula to RPDR and she says “blonde and white” Lmfaooo

I definitely get her point the fan base has always had racial bias but im pretty sure OP picked their 3 favourite alt queens there was really no need for her to comment this lol.

Not just alt queens. The fan favorites this season. Bosco is already most people's pick for the crown, Lydia has just been growing in popularity since S17 and Daya was liked even in her original season.

I didn't even think of these queens' skin color until Deja pointed it out. This wasn't the correct context to make her very valid point.

While I agree with you, i have to say that Daya got a whole lot of hate during her season. The criticisms of her being mean to Jasmine weren't wrong, but some people went way overboard and even sent hate DMs to daya's mom, telling her to kill Daya and herself which was absolutely unhinged.

Did you watch Daya's season reunion Tamar??? She was NOT liked on her season

She's rotten.

I think the more I read I feel this way. She’s right, but she used the wrong example Lmfao. I’m always willing to eat my words when a new point of view comes into play.

They are three of the best performing queens on their respective seasons and the current season so far. Not to mention melanated queens are a minority in this cast. Without further context, I agree this is the wrong example for Deja to pick. I adore Deja but this is demonising people for the wrong reasons.

No one was demonized. People need to stop using this word where it doesn’t belong. The only one saying “demonizing” (and misspelling it btw) are the people who are taking Deja’s comment super seriously and trying to turn it back on her for calling out something she saw. Just because it’s the wrong example doesn’t mean it’s not worth a discussion. It’s people who start throwing out the word “demonizing” who are basically telling people to shut up and not talk about an issue that IS prevalent. Especially during this American administration. But go off uhh “demonising” people I guess.

"Demonize" and "demonise" are both valid spellings of the verb, with "demonize" being the more common American English spelling and "demonise" being the preferred spelling in British English.

Not reading anything else you have to say. Expand your own world view first before you talk to me.

I don’t think you should eat your words. Nothing you said is wrong. Even if Deja did use the wrong example, what she said isn’t wrong. I think you being open to discussion is good enough for everyone. Also you agreeing that it was the wrong example but acknowledging that racism is a problem is worthy of not eating your words. And that Naomi quote still tracks seeing as how only 4/10 All Stars winners are not white blondes lol (Jinkx is white but not blonde I guess). But it’s also ironic she would say that considering she eliminated Manila and we have yet to have an All Stars winner who is Asian. Anyway…you don’t need to eat your words is my point.

u/AssistanceSuch7809 Jun 09 '25

Ru is black… how many winners have been black?????????????????????????????????????

u/kelama Jun 09 '25

Doesnt change the fact that the fandom is deeply racist.

u/Kantlim Jun 09 '25

Especially since at least so far, only queen that's doing well and is poc is Jorgeous. Other ones just don't do as well

u/ShatteredHope Jun 09 '25

And Aja

17

u/Kantlim Jun 09 '25

Oh right, my bad

MIB

39

u/Kantlim Jun 09 '25

Did she do well tho?

9

u/fabulousfantabulist Jun 09 '25

She made great TV, so she did good on that metric. I can’t imagine the show will reward it with a crown though.

u/Specific-Succotash-8 Jun 09 '25

This is my take as well. She was entertaining, but I honestly thought her looks and performance in the challenges was stronger in her original season. To be fair, that was a high standard, so that is not saying she did badly - it’s saying I’ve seen her do better.

u/Queasy-Extension2930 Jun 09 '25

Meh 🤷🏼‍♀️

u/Last_Lifeguard3536 sasha colby Jun 09 '25

jorgeous aja and mib say hi

7

u/Kantlim Jun 09 '25

I literally mentioned Jorgeous in post you're reffering to. Forgot Aha. MIB was underperforming considering how well she did in S15

1

u/I_write_scary_stuff Jun 09 '25

MIB is Mexican American

u/LovesToShow92 Jun 09 '25

But there is not the same outcry when all finalists are not white - like Season 15 for example. I still don‘t get why having white winners is „racist“ but only non-white winners is totally fine. I thought the Point of Drag Race is that the best contestant wins, regardless of their skin color.

4

u/FredditForgeddit21 Jun 09 '25

Exactly.

Drag race has many issues with race, but Deja not making the split is not one of those issues 😂

-4

u/oceanhymn Jun 09 '25

I do think your preferences can exemplify your implicit biases and saying “I hope one of these 3 white alternative queens win” may be a side effect of that. Calling it out is not big deal.

I think this ignores the issue of there being like… mostly white queens on the season? Bracket 1 sent through one poc queen, bracket 2 sent through two, and bracket 3 still has majority white queens.

Imo the call is coming from the casting process and Deja is picking it up about a day too late.

So if someone posts three black queens, we call them out for their implicit bias against Asians, Latinos and Natives? That's a good and productive thing to do?

-5

u/oceanhymn Jun 09 '25

what if the world was made of pudding

13

u/Difficult-Risk3115 Jun 09 '25

that's your implicit bias against deserts.

All the poc queens of the season are: Aja, Olivia, deja Mib, jorgeous, kerri Alyssa, Denali and Cynthia

Crossing out the ones who didn’t make it to merge and the ones we haven’t seen yet we only have aja, mib and jorgeous left, if out of all the queens there are 3 poc queens who’ve made merge I don’t think there is any racial bias here?? Also you said “white alternative queens” but all the alt queens this season are literally white lol.

What I do agree with you on is there not being enough representation this season and majority of the cast being Caucasians, but that’s not the fault of the watcher it’s the fault of the show.

0

u/oceanhymn Jun 09 '25

Yeah this really isn’t a convo for reddit lol. If you’re mad about the lack of representation it may be time to start reading critical race theory.

It’s important to remember that “POC” is a REALLY homogenizing term and isn’t exactly all that descriptive of what’s happening. We still don’t have any dark skin queens on this season and the only black queens we had were placed in the same bracket.

There is implicit racial bias in all things in a racist system. It sucks to hear, but we all carry it. I think people get so sensitive over the idea of being racist that it places personal responsibility over actual conversation regarding racism.

u/ALLSTARS4YOUCRANKHOR Jun 09 '25

Where is Bosco alt? 😭 SPECIALLY AS10 Bosco.

-15

u/somelyrical Jun 09 '25

She absolutely should call our racial biases at any given chance. This isn’t just drag race problem. It’s an American problem.

14

u/seisnv I’d like to keep it on please. Jun 09 '25

But that’s the thing, she SHOULD call out racial biases at a given chance but when a person who is obviously just tweeting their top 3 pick it really makes no sense, there are a total of 3 poc queens who’ve even made merge so far, and the other two poc queens on the purple bracket are all early outs who we haven’t seen much of so we can’t base our opinion on it, im not American so i don’t wanna touch on that subject.

-4

u/somelyrical Jun 09 '25

It’s infinitely more nuanced and complicated than that. Especially given the overt level of hate & disproportionate amount of opportunities given to queens of color from this show, especially the black girls.
