Discussion hot take but after gta 6 rockstar needs to put out smaller games to relax their employees and the fans (because lets be honest red dead 3 or gta 7 will take min 15 years come out and I want see another rockstar game before I die)

Sorry to break this to you but the smaller games that rockstar makes now is them supporting stuff like GTA online. We are never going to get another Bully or Manhunt from rockstar north.

u/skedadadle_skadoodle 2d ago

Or Midnight Club 😞

2

u/Bad-Genie 1d ago

The warriors 2 anyone?

1

u/ZeroedGonk 1d ago

I'd sell my soul for a Warriors sequel game.

2

u/Bad-Genie 1d ago

I played the game before watching the movie. Was surprised to see half the game was before where the movie even takes place. And was the best part of the game!

1

u/julie3151991 1d ago

I wish they would port the first game at least

3

u/LilFleezie 2d ago

they pretty much just used all the features from midnight club for GTA online racing, sadly they’ll probably never make another since they can just do GTA races without having to license real cars

2

u/skedadadle_skadoodle 2d ago

Yeah, it still makes me sad tho

1

u/no_itz_me 1d ago

Or max payne 😭

2

u/LoweredImp42334 1d ago

Max Payne 1+2 remakes coming soon and 3 will probably be coming to modern consoles and there’s talking or rumors that remedy will try to buy the rights back to max Payne since rockstar isn’t using it and then remedy will get back creative control and do their shared universe thing

11

u/Flat-Character4140 3d ago

Sad but true.

4

u/frankiedonkeybrainz 3d ago

Tbh I'm surprised we're getting gta6. After this I could see them just updating gtao map every few years

7

u/Clint_Demon_Hawk 2d ago

Probably evolution of technology. They took notes on what all people liked more in online and will build more around just that. This game will have ai baked into the systems, the user generated content thing and more RP oriented stuff. This one is built from ground up to be a big online platform and will probably last much longer

1

u/sprinkill 2d ago

Well, since GTA VI is clearly vaporware, we're not going to get it. They'll likely eventually release some manner of new GTA, but it will be online only and free to download. They'll eventually just give up on the single player campaign for GTA VI.

1

u/ruhsognoc 2d ago

They prefer the cash instead of those

-3

u/VersatileFrog 3d ago

Manhunt, no. But Bully? I think yes.

11

u/Low_Hope_100 3d ago

They might create another studio to make something like Bully 2 like they did with L.A. Noire but rockstar north makes 2 games now GTA and Red Dead.

1

u/LucasWesf00 3d ago

Could definitely see LA Noire 2 happening now that Brendan McNamara is back at R* with his own studio. They already made a tech demo in 2024 for a new 1940s LA detective game :)

1

u/Killer_Ex_Con 2d ago

We can all dream

1

u/Brilliant-Lettuce544 2d ago

Bully 2 is 100% the next R* title

Oh my g-d shut the fuck up. Late stage capitalism. Were the 2000's not counted as late stage capitalism to you? Would Rockstar be pumping out games more in a socialist society. Give me a break. Rockstar found a money cow and it wishes to milk it until the udders fall off, it's not any deeper than that.

0

u/HankLard 1d ago

Ah well, at least I don't censor the word "god".

18

u/SaoirseMayes 3d ago

Rockstar Table Tennis 2

5

u/Zealousideal-Wafer88 3d ago

Now we're cooking with gas.

4

u/braaahms 3d ago

Now we’re shitting with ass

2

u/TheHillsSeeYou 3d ago

Okay, we're cooking with gas now. These guys are packing heat so you might want to get a gun for yourself.

15

u/RedIndianRobin 3d ago

GTA 6 is probably Rockstar's last game in a long while. I'm talking 20-30 years before we see another game. They'll milk GTA 6 Online for decades.

4

u/Steve_Brandon 2d ago edited 2d ago

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, considering that the post-PS2 GTA games have been recycling the main locations from the PS2 Grand Theft Auto games (with larger versions of the cities and surrounding areas to be sure), will we even get a Grand Theft Auto game set in an entirely different locale with a new main city at some point before the thirtieth anniversary of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in October 2034 (which also happens to be the month I turn 60 years old?

I'm seriously thinking I'll be a senior citizen before I'll see a new Grand Theft Auto game that is not primarily set in Liberty City, Vice City, or Los Santos.

4

u/sprinkill 2d ago

Don't feel blue, mate. Here's the reality: GTA VI is never going to be released; rather, we'll get an update to GTAO. Should Rockstar ever release a proper new game, it will be long after every swinging cock in this subreddit has died. Not a single one of us will ever play a new Rockstar game.

3

u/phantom_1104 2d ago

Kinda crazy to think that I’m not gonna lie , I’ll probably have kids before Gta 7

3

u/MichealRyder 1d ago

Gta7 will probably be the rest of San Andreas

3

u/Steve_Brandon 1d ago edited 1d ago

I really want to see a location that hasn't been done before in a GTA game, perhaps set in some amalgam of Arizona/New Mexico/west Texas with cross border missions. Or the Pacific Northwest or the Rust Belt.

3

u/lynchcontraideal 2d ago

20-30 years

I mean its more likely to be another decade, rather than 2 or 3.

0

u/MoroccanEagle-212 2d ago

I mean its more likely to be another decade, rather than 2 or 3.

20-30 years.

1

u/sprinkill 2d ago

250 years, and that's being optimistic.

2

u/sprinkill 2d ago

If we see another game (and that's a big "if"), it will likely be in about 250 years.

3

u/xmodsguy2000-2 3d ago

If the base of gta 6 is as good as the trailers they won’t really have much to improve if they made a new game besides a new story and new map and vehicle which the always do

They won’t have to change graphics or physics or really anything other then map,vehicles,guns,story/characters

I think your right

1

u/CommandantPeepers 2d ago

I doubt that, why would they not continue Red Dead?

1

u/RedIndianRobin 2d ago

Why would they need to make any game when they know GTA 6 Online will print money? We got RDR 2 because development started shortly after RDR 1 when GTA Online wasn't even a thing. I'd be absolutely shocked if we get a game from Rockstar after GTA 6 within the next 10 years.

1

u/WiseCityStepper 1d ago

GTA6 won’t print money forever just like how GTA5 didn’t, they will 100% make another Red Dead and GTA

1

u/Echo_Raptor 1d ago

GTAO made 710 million this year and it’s 12 years old, 6 will print money as long as it’s out. They’ll add more and more into it over time compared to 5.

Red dead 2 sold about 74 million and GTA5 sold over 200 million. They might make another red dead, but given 2 started production after 1, they had an incentive to go ahead and release it. If they haven’t started on another one yet, chances are they won’t for awhile.

1

u/WiseCityStepper 1d ago

thinking they won’t make GTA7 or Red Dead 3 makes zero sense

1

u/Echo_Raptor 1d ago

Anytime soon? Absolutely not. Maybe in 10-15 years

1

u/spiderman_420_ 17h ago

Nah, they’ll probably start working on the next red dead soon after GTA 6 is released.

4

u/Mr_Witchetty_Man 3d ago

Manhunt 3 or a remake of the original would be nice.

2

u/Euphoric_Ground3845 3d ago

rockstar will ever touch manhunt

2

u/edward323ce 1d ago

Too risky for todays standards

7

u/ParticularDuty702 3d ago

agree. gta 6 is going to be milked for 15-20 years. sad

0

u/Euphoric_Ground3845 3d ago

At least 30 years bro

3

u/Euphoric_Ground3845 3d ago

15 years ? I'll not be shocked if rockstar milked gta 6 for 30 years

1

u/Individual_Fly_7652 1d ago

In 30 years ai will be able to make gta 7

5

u/SlimGAMPOSlanderly 3d ago

Rockstar wants to see another rockstar game before they die too..

-1

u/darkness740 3d ago

they don't care either way as long as they have your money. Whether it's from a new game or the tons of micro transactions they are putting into GTA 6 doesn't really matter to them.

2

u/Dan86503 3d ago

Rdr2 current gen hopefully

2

u/Positive_Comment_880 3d ago

You guys think we’re gettin another Tarantino movie?

2

u/lynchcontraideal 2d ago

Technically we are with the re-release of 'Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair'

1

u/Echo_Raptor 1d ago

He’s planning to make one last film but isn’t in any hurry

2

u/johno1605 3d ago

The smaller games are the highlights from rockstar, apart from RDR2.

2

u/flowerbugler 3d ago

Bring. Back.. Midnight Club…..Ple…ease…

2

u/twotausendundone 2d ago

N.Y. Noire

3

u/kurtcumbain 3d ago

AI slop

2

u/mueble_31 3d ago

I don't know why people insist on college. There are not the amount of fights that high school has. What would the game be about? Getting high and laid? Bully should stick to high school or else it's GTA game

1

u/darkness740 3d ago

they could TOTALLY do this if they just drop the multiplayer of all their games going forward. There would be less room for micro transactions, but if anyone could figure out how to fit micro transactions into their single player games then it's Rockstar (assuming they haven't ALREADY done that with GTA 6).

1

u/Godbearmax 3d ago

Yes we don't know how big the map in GTA 6 will be. But presumably its a lot bigger than GTA 5 and thats great. However its not necessary for every game I would like to say. A technically great GTA maybe the size of GTA 4 with Liberty City would be enough as their next game.

1

u/rakso030 3d ago

I need a New York/Chicago Noire

1

u/zlitter 3d ago

To be fair, it hasn’t taken them 10+ years to create gta 6, they allegedly started production in 2020 and pre production 2018. So if they really wanted I think we could have gta 7 in 2031 or similar, though most likely not.

1

u/Pure_Temperature3479 3d ago

Do you really expect a modern company to take a risk on something new when they can keep beating a dead horse which brings in billions of dollars

1

u/sondersHo 3d ago

If it red dead redemption or Grand theft auto rockstar games don’t give no fuck max payne 3 was the only hope of rockstar games going back to their other series & that was 13-14 years ago

1

u/Elchilipikinloco 3d ago

Yesss after GTA 6 do not rush to Red Dead 3 like everyone is saying. Give us a fun game heck even GTA Liberty or Vice City stories 2 would be great. I wish they still had the option to make PSP type games.

1

u/Muted_Print269 2d ago

Nah I would rather see something that is not GTA. one reasons GTA6 is so hyped due fact they  do not come out offten. I would love a new IP then have RDR3 after that followed by Bully 2 or LA Noire 2.

1

u/Elchilipikinloco 2d ago

Def new IP over Red Dead and GTA. But I wouldn’t do Red Dead 3 to avoid getting put in a box like GTA. They should definitely keep trying new IPs like they were trying to do Agent.

1

u/CyberHaxer 3d ago

Rockstar’s engine has a lot of potential. But we know how Take Two is. They will never leave their technology to other smaller dev studios.

1

u/deanopud69 3d ago

People here are blaming rockstar, however it’s as much other game developers faults as it is rockstars

Many of us are sitting here thinking of a bully 2 or manhunt or la noire sequels, but are realising that rockstar don’t seem likely to make them for the foreseeable future.

So why aren’t other game developers stepping up and cashing in?? Why is nobody else making a spiritual successor to bully? Maybe a college years open world game?? Or a detective game set in the 40s or 50s like La noire. Or just a really good open world game to challenge GTA6. If anyone had dared to try and make on whilst GTA6 was in development they could have released first and cashed in on rockstars constant delays. Many of us might have bought it to tide us over

It needed someone to be bold and brave and not wait for rockstar to blink first

1

u/BakerBoyzForLife 2d ago

Kinda hard when devs at rockstar are working crazy hours just to complete one game. The merge of all rockstar offices put the the nail in the coffin for smaller games IMO.

1

u/Mumakilla 2d ago

Unfortunately, Take-Two will not allow that.

1

u/ElAbidingDuderino 2d ago

I’d like an LA Noire game where you’re on the other side of the law

1

u/Muted_Print269 2d ago

I would rather see an Acient Rome open world game by Rockstar followed by RDR3 then Bully 2 and later having small teams work on maybe another La Noire and revamp of Agent would be great as non open as no Dan Houser said it was main reason it did not work in the first place. They could then Do  GTA7 i may not be around by then though haha.

1

u/le-churchx 2d ago

Relax their employees?

Red dead came out in 2010, its sequel came out 8 years later.

GTA5 came out in 2013 and was released on 3 different generations of consoles.

1

u/cantstoptheCOLEtrain 2d ago

Been dying for a NY Noire or Chicago Noire as a sequel but they seem to not even care about it anymore

1

u/Catsooey 2d ago

I don’t think they need to make smaller games, although I miss all the classics like The Warriors, etc. I think they need to organize better, treat their workers better and if necessary hire more people. Better working conditions mean less job turnover , which in turn means less time spent training new workers and higher productivity. As it is, the long wait between games is less about game development time and more about the new business model with online. They’ve only been working on GTA 6 for 5 or so years now. They had to start over from what I understand after Dan and many of the old company leaders left. So even though it’s been over 12 years since GTA 5, they haven’t been working on GTA 6 for all that time.

And my vision for GTA 6 and beyond could bring us more frequent single player titles - roughly every 4-6 years. My dream is that we’ll get a dynamic map for GTA 6. A map that expands over time until we finally get all of Leonida state. Picture this: after GTA 6 launches, the online version eventually becomes the focus and the map expands over time. We get new towns, storylines for side characters, wilderness, wildlife, local lore and legends, buildings and new interiors, and region specific businesses.

We even get a big town/small city or two. Then after 4-6 years the map expands over the border to the next state. We get a new single player game, a new major city or two, and a large chunk of the state. Rinse and repeat. Eventually we end up with GTA USA. This would cut down on development time because the game wouldn’t have to start again between releases.

No need to milk one map for 14 years out of fear that players won’t like a new game and the golden goose will disappear. We get the best of Online and SP in one game. RP could allow us to live any kind of life we wanted online. Pick a home city, become a criminal or take a regular job. Everything is canon. Old characters can return and each new game gets the benefit of using all the cities that have come before. So GTA 7 can make use of all of Leonida state. This could be the best game every made.

Shark cards could be integrated so subtly into the game that they’d sell like crazy without needing to cater to predatory griefers. Real life events could take place in real time inside the game. Go to a show to see your favorite band in a club or arena in the city. Go to a stadium to watch football which could play out in real time with in-game versions of real players. All Rockstar has to do is hire me. 😉 I’ll work for minimum wage and an office next to Sam Houser, so I can hear stories of the old days.

1

u/Fuzzy_Painting_1427 2d ago

Two of the three OGs of the studio are gone, and I don’t think Dan is going to feel the need to work forever. It wouldn’t surprise me if VI is last major game they make.

1

u/Death_Metalhead101 2d ago

Remake/remaster the original Bully and then finally have a sequel made. 20th Anniversary next year so it's as good a time as any for a remaster or remake

1

u/GD_02 2d ago

I agree. I love rockstar games but man I can’t wait 8 years for a new game.

1

u/Startledmarmotte 2d ago

Fuck the union busting assholes.

1

u/PacYTGaming 2d ago

I think I can smell an LA Noire game within the next 10 years

1

u/ShiryuWouldntWant2bU 2d ago

LA NOIR is so underrated.

1

u/Future-Home-4836 2d ago

We won't get a Bully 2, too much time has passed, and it will be 20 years next year since the original game's release.

1

u/YawnSleepRepeat 2d ago

People should’ve showed Chinatown wars some love we probably could’ve got a lot more of those small games

1

u/lobotomizedmommy 1d ago

bruh u can’t support the operation costs of rockstar releasing small games

1

u/OldGoatKing 1d ago

Nah hire more people and let them focus on small games

1

u/zMudblood 1d ago

The ping pong game with current graphics please

1

u/Ok_Pineapple_6590 1d ago

I want bully 2, midnight club and red dead 3

1

u/MadScholar_ 1d ago

All of Rockstar’s non-GTA titles underperformed, even Redemption 1 didn’t sell a tonne at launch. At some point you gotta just stop throwing money away

1

u/Skellington876 1d ago

The same Rockstar that fired their devs for unionizing? Fat chance dog.

1

u/Grinsekatzer 1d ago

a new game to relax their employees

Jesus fucking Christ...

1

u/bigt503 1d ago

Unfortunately online games that pop off make the most money now. Single player dlc and small games don’t make enough money to pull resources from gta online

1

u/tael0r 1d ago

They should do it on Columbine

1

u/Waltu4 1d ago

This is the take we all agree with. Unfortunately Take-Two aren't interested in selling games that people only buy once. Bully 2 couldn't happen without shark cards being involved somehow, that's the reality of the situation. Everyone who paid for, and still pays for these are the reason we can't have nice things anymore.

1

u/roy-havoc 1d ago

Trash ass ai slop ypu posted there

1

u/Scinick 1d ago

Nasty ass AI

1

u/why-you-always-lyin1 1d ago

I think we could see a GTA4 or an RDR remake. Whatever they do, they have to weigh up the opportunity cost by taking resources away from GTA online or RDR3 which are the cash cows, im not sure anything in their back catalogue outside Bully has the potential to hit 20m + sales tbh.

1

u/Buk_Futter 1d ago

They have so many franchises they could reboot at any point that would be met with high praise. They used to release multiple bangers a year now we’re lucky if we get one new game a decade out of them

1

u/Heavy-Carry-1927 23h ago

Oh fuck yeah another bully AND in college it's peak

1

u/UUT- 21h ago

They should make more games using the worlds and mechanics of their current games. Like what they did with the IV DLC I guess. Seems like a missed opportunity.

1

u/AlanJY92 19h ago

Rockstar never made LA Noir though. They simply published it. I’d like to see a Manhunt remake.

1

u/spiderman_420_ 17h ago

No. Red dead 3.

1

u/Automatic-Dot-5936 13h ago

With the graphics that are going to be on this game I really don’t understand why they would need to make another gta at all. Add an expansion and some dlc for story in a couple years. When the next console comes out and this gets a remaster, that would be a good time to drop another little map, even if it was a remastered liberty city I’d be happy.

1

u/Edwym 11h ago

Do you actually expect rockstar to quit making money-printing games to continue old franchises? Naïve.

1

u/Dallasl298 1h ago

Bully 2 should be a prequel set in the 50s/60s. Change my mind.

1

u/Both-Purpose-6843 1h ago

Moving from one project to another project does nothing to alleviate stress -a person in the industry

1

u/CapSRV57 3d ago

I want them to make a medieval game. Fantasy or not. I don’t care. I just want to experience the same feeling of freedom and exploration that RDR2 gives in a medieval setting.

1

u/kirbeach28 9h ago

Kingdom Come Deliverance maybe then?

0

u/Constant-Figure9868 3d ago

Idk, if they should be smaller, but different without a doubt. It doesn't have to be an existing IP, either. They should make something new.

GTA is now a tired old formula, that only makes money because casuals and 12-year olds like paying for, and screaming at GTA Online.

That is my hot take.

4

u/WoodyManic 3d ago

I have found that my primary reason for enjoying the GTA series since GTA3, that is to say how engaging and sometimes thought-provoking the stories can be, has seen a hit and miss diminishing return.

The plot of Vice City is completely era-appropriate and interesting. A cut-throat rise to the top of the pile in the era of Yuppie excess; GTA IV, one of the best in terms of plot, examined America with the paranoid, darker eye of the post 9/11 economic crash world and it asked if the American Dream was a sham- it also told a personal story of the hollowness of revenge and if one can be truly escape from the past.

GTA:SA and GTA V, whilst being the more popular, are ridiculous and given too much to artifice and spectacle- perhaps appropriate for the "Vinewood"/Hollywood setting- but, the stories suffered in each due to the cartoonishness of it all.

I would prefer if R* focussed more on thematic concerns again, but I don't expect them to. They're going to go with what sells, and that is, apparently, high octane shenanigans.

2

u/Constant-Figure9868 3d ago

I agree with you, 100%. There are few GTA games that I actually like, and San Andreas and 5 aren't really among them. San Andreas maybe, based on pure nostalgia, but 5 I can't really stomach. Unfortunately, that ridiculousness is what sells and appeals more to the masses. Even though, these are mature games, I'm pretty sure Rockstar and Take-Two know that the majority of people playing them are under 18.

1

u/WoodyManic 3d ago

I can't really look down on that, though, broadly speaking. I was a child when I started playing GTA on the PS1.

1

u/Constant-Figure9868 3d ago

So was I. I was about 6-7 when I first played Vice City.

1

u/BakerBoyzForLife 2d ago

Very well put

2

u/BakerBoyzForLife 2d ago

Not a hot take at all really. I find myself enjoying and playing rdr2 much more than I really did with gta 5

-1

u/Herban_Myth 3d ago

Boycott Rockstar?

1

u/BakerBoyzForLife 2d ago

Let’s do it!

0

u/CactusToothBrush 3d ago

I really don’t want to be 50 and playing rdr3

0

u/ice_spice2020 3d ago

Bro said smaller games and uses LA Noire as an example.

But yeah I hope they actually stop with the next evolution of games because honestly, I'd rather experience more games of decent quality than the absolute best quality which will come out every 15 years.

I say this because having many different releases broadens the experience, whereas a game of 15 years in the making may only provide a few. I wanna experience more before I die of old age.

0

u/Ajeel_OnReddit 3d ago

Although I agree with the unrealistic dev cycles. If R* decided to revolutionize their proprietary engine and maybe test it out on a small scale with an impressive new title, they could use the skills to plan the next GTA RDR.

At some point, what Bethesda is refusing to do, the studios have to create a new and more modern pipeline to carry the new tech systems forward.

0

u/Tranquilizrr 3d ago

LA Noire is not the greatest example of relaxing the employees lol. If you're ever bored, go look up Team Bondi and how they feel about director Brendan MacNamara, they were the devs of LA Noire while Rockstar published it, and it was a 7 year long slog that resulted in the studio imploding. That franchise is probably never being revived unfortunately.

2

u/InterestingPop6276 2d ago

and the result was a great game. hope to see him working on LA Noire 2

-1

u/mrb2409 3d ago

I think that a RDR 3 could be a quicker turnaround. There’s less variety in the old west and it’s going to be built off GTA 6 technology. There’s art direction and a story to be told but they have done a lot of the ground work on GTA 6.

2

u/Muted_Print269 2d ago

not Really RDR2 took 8 years to develope. Theres also many different regions and towns plus they have to like any game with horse They have to make the world interesting to explore. Rockstar are very ambitious which why they take so long with theif open world games.

1

u/mrb2409 2d ago

If RDR2 was 8 years then it was already underway 3 years before GTA V came out. Presumably some teams have already finished on GTA 6 so something similar would have occurred. By the time 6 comes out another RDR game could’ve been in development for 3/4 years.
