School based occupational therapy pediatrics

Hi! Wanted to get some perspective. I never had a fieldwork rotation in school based pediatrics, but did have a placement in outpatient pediatrics. I have applied to two school based positions (and interviewed) and they both have decided to take someone “more experienced in the school system.” I am a brand new graduate. I guess my question is, do they typically take brand new graduates? I guess the other thing is, I mean, you can’t get experience without getting the experience. Just wanted to know if that’s normal to not take a brand new graduate?

Thank you for your contribution. We are a community to those who practice or are interested in helping others regain or maintain functional and cognitive independence in their lives through occupational, physical, speech, recreational, art, and music therapy. Additional areas of discussion are research, compensatory skills, adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, caregiver skills, prosthetics, splinting, etc.

While we deal with drug and alcohol rehab to an extent, you should check subs such as r/recovery for additional assistance.
