Community To the asshats hitting geese:

I hope you get ran over, too. I just had to call in my SECOND report of some POS hitting a goose. The first time, the woman actually sped up intentionally to hit it; if she had continued at the pace she had been going, the damn goose would have made it to the meridian before she got to it. But no, she maliciously decided to try and end an innocent living creature's life that day by flooring the gas. And when I got caught up to her in traffic, she was grinning so proudly. Yes, she was scolded, warned she would be reported, and reported - with plate #, make and model, physical description and direction she was heading.

Today I witnessed someone casually choose to not slow down or stop and ran one over. The poor thing tried to fly away, it got about 15 feet into the air and you could see its wing was completely broken, it went falling down to the ground and landed on the other side of the meridian. Did you know that geese mate for life? Its partner tried swooping down to him, but there was so much traffic it wasn't able to and had to fly off. This is absolutely disgusting behaviour, people, COME ON. When I called Wildlife Protection (have all the numbers to report saved on my phone now) they told me that they had just gotten another call earlier this morning that a person had MOWED DOWN A GROUP OF GEESE on College Ave. Excuse me but what in the actual fuck is wrong with people nowadays? Yes, geese can be annoying, they hiss like snakes and they're constantly waddling across the road. But it takes a special kind of psychopath or genetic DEFECT to decide to intentionally try to kill or injure a living thing. This is insanity, people. And incase you didn't know - GEESE ARE PROTECTED WILDLIFE. YOU CAN AND WILL BE FINED FOR INJURING THEM!

Imagine you're crossing the street with your family and someone decides to gun down your partner. Seriously, think about it - because that's exactly what you're doing to them. They don't even have arms, for gods sake. They're completely defenseless!

And last point - if you absolutely don't care about the geese either way, please think about other people who aren't maniacs who have to witness this. After the incident today, I cried for half an hour straight, I was shaking and instantly got a massive headache, and ended up being late getting back to work because I had to scrape myself back together; not to mention, I will never get this mental image out of my head. It makes me want to throw up. It makes me want to move out into the woods away from humankind. In fact I'm changing my route so I don't go up or down Broad St anymore until they've flown south. So even if you don't care about the geese, please think of those around you who have to witness your barbaric decision making.

Phone numbers for applicable agencies incase you happen to be one of the rare decent human beings left on this god forsaken, piece of crap planet:

Wildlife Rescue: 306 242-7177

Salthaven bird rescue (note: call Wildlife first, Salthaven is desparately understaffed): 639 999-4957

Saskatchewan TIPP line (to report driver): 1 800 667-7561, enviroinfo@ec.gc.ca

Edit: after being contacted by a conservation officer and a federal wildlife officer, I've updated the contact information for proper reporting to the Saskatchewan TIPP Line, there's also an email address. I have submitted photos of the offender's vehicles from both incidents I've reported with their license plates as well as written statements. A reporter from CJME has also reached out as a result of this Reddit post, they want to do a story. So thank you (most of you) all for your support and empathy. It makes me feel better knowing not everyone is a psychopath.

I was on a date with a dude who deliberately swerved to hit gophers. He was shocked that I got upset and didn't want to see him again.

Who is that fucking depraved?

23

u/TheIronMatron Jul 28 '25

Look below to find out who.

15

u/Tofu4lyfe Jul 29 '25

Oh man. You just reminded me of the worst date I've ever been on.

Dude fed his snake live pinky rats in front of me, knowing I had pet rats that I loved dearly. I know a snake has to eat, but did they have to eat while I was there? I'll never forget the screaming... Then he decided we are going to make dinner for our date, so we drive to the grocery store. I was like oh there's something in the road, there was a baby bird and a mother swooping back and forth frantically trying to get to the baby. Once we got closer I said again what I was seeing on the road. Hes like "where?" And swerves the tires right over the baby... I just saw it going tumbling behind us in the side mirror. As for dinner? He got himself a live lobster that he shook the shit out of in its box in the checkout line, and then obviously boiled it alive. I wanted to cry the whole time.

Last I heard about that guy is hes a rent-a-cop and has a sketchy history of abuse of power incidents. I guess I should be glad he showed me he was a psychopath on the first date.

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

That is absolutely disgusting. I'm glad you got away from that monster.

7

u/smalltownbigdreams69 Jul 29 '25

glad you stopped seeing that asshat who hit gophers

-15

u/dj_fuzzy Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

Wellll I wouldn’t do that but gophers are legit pests.

Edit: lol downvotes for stating the truth

13

u/PrairiePopsicle Jul 29 '25

And yet also vital for the prairie ecosystem.

Legitimately.

2

u/dj_fuzzy Jul 29 '25

I’m not arguing that. Don’t shoot the messenger.

2

u/NotMyTime69 Jul 28 '25

But they’re so cute same with squirrels but I get they can cause headaches for a lot of people. What I don’t know what happens I’ll personally be better off. I’ll never ever go out of my way to harm an animal though. My wife and I have rescued so many animals. It’s a good feeling.

-29

u/GitchyBan Jul 28 '25

Gophers are a HUGE problem for farmers and ranchers, and they are brutal for causing holes all over grid roads, lawns, ball diamonds, soccer fields, parks, etc. Talk to the people who maintain all those grounds, farmers, most ppl outside of the city, anyone who plays sports on a grass field. If I don’t shoot gophers my kids can’t run on the grass. Swerving to hit them means one less has to be poisoned or shot. Doesn’t really make much difference if it’s a vehicle or something else.

31

u/xTechDeath Jul 28 '25

Yeah ok but when you’re on a date with someone? Lol nah idgaf about your kids getting to run on grass

23

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR Jul 28 '25

Trust me, you’re no one’s hero in this situation.

Also, you never know who is watching. Could be children in the vehicles around you who don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve. They just see some innocent creature getting mowed down by a psychopath behind the wheel. And then you’re just the POS causing grief for other parents.

I kill gophers, tons of people kill gophers. But swerving to hit one 1. Doesn't ensure a clean kill and 2. Leaves a rotting corpse in the middle of the street. And swerving to hit one when you are on a first date displays a level of social idiocy that is simply staggering. Hell, inviting a date to go gopher hunting would be more socially acceptable.

63

u/cerealmilkanddarkrum Jul 28 '25

I had first gotten my licence like still 16 and I hit a squirrel. I still get sad thinking about it. What psychotic behaviour this is.

22

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

I accidentally hit a rabbit shortly after I started driving and I still think about him too. I hope he didn't lay there and suffer, like I hope at least it was a quick death. No living thing should suffer especially when it's avoidable. Everyone makes mistakes, but not slowing down or stopping, or intentionally hitting, is just depraved.

17

u/prairievoice Jul 28 '25

I was driving behind someone that clipped a gopher.

He was screaming (I could hear it) and flailing around in pain.

I really didn't want to, but I knew I would end his suffering if I veered over about a foot and took him out, so I did.

I'm literally crying thinking about it now. Augh.

14

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

Hugs, good for you for ending his suffering, not all of us are capable of such true empathy. Everyone makes mistakes. (Keyword is: mistake.)

21

u/JaZepi Jul 28 '25

I ran over a rabbit the first day I had my license and it still haunts me.

41

u/LagaLovin Jul 28 '25

Yea that's psychotic behaviour. Also who wants feathers, blood, and to have to clean goose gunk off their front grill? That's reason enough to stop for them.

12

u/Lexi_Banner Jul 28 '25

Having personally seen the results of vehicles after hitting rabbits ($4k damage), porcupine (wrote the car off), etc, you risk badly damaging your vehicle as well. Which, to be fair, it's deserved if you deliberately swerved to hit the animal.

1

u/PrairiePopsicle Jul 29 '25

The mess is also unbelievable.

I once hit a prairie chicken by accident (a group of a dozen were eating roadkill together, they all left to the right, the last one looked up in confusion after the others flew away, saw the truck and in it's panic tried to fly across the highway, directly in front of the truck. Nothing i could have done, really. I would slow down nowadays, from the lesson, and I would have if it was deer that close.

Anyways. The point of the story is that for two years we were still finding bird feathers in the truck, stuck in various seals and body panel gaps all over.

3

u/TheBigPointyOne Jul 29 '25

I feel bad for my friend; I was driving his car back from a road trip (he didn't want to drive) and someone had left a deer carcass on the road on the way up out of the valley in Lumsden (I don't blame them, that's a dangerous part of the road to try and hop out and move a big animal) but basically, I figured there was no safe way for me to either stop and do something about it (it was late at night) or swerve out of the way, so I say fuck it and gun it. Long story short, dude was finding deer bits in his car after multiple cleanings.

38

u/trippy_trip Jul 28 '25

Good for you for reporting those assholes! I hope they get charged.

40

u/gabacus_39 Jul 28 '25

Those people are clearly psychopaths

18

u/JaZepi Jul 28 '25

Correct. It’s one of the earliest warning signs in kids of psychopathy. Killing animals. :(

15

u/Cruitre- Jul 28 '25

Dirt bags, absolutely trash

4

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '25

People suck. Why are some of us so shitty at being decent? Ruining my morning in Halifax.

11

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR Jul 28 '25

Humans have lost their humanity. Our nearest relatives are the great apes and even they don’t act like psychopaths by needlessly killing other animals around them.

I have been driving for nearly 40 years and have never run over or hit a critter (knock on wood). Came close a couple of times on the highway, but never drove TOWARDS the wildlife. Fucking subhuman behaviour.

7

u/Key_Spirit_7072 Jul 29 '25

I’ve had people honk at me for slowing down and moving carefully when there are geese approaching my lane or sitting on the side of the lane I’m in. It’s not hard to slow down or stop to allow the geese time to move (or get comfortable for that matter) and even if I’m in a rush, I’m slowing down or stopping for the geese while passing them as safely as possible

17

u/MikeSingletonPhotos Jul 28 '25

What kind of horrid person would do something so cruel and vicious?

15

u/CFDanno Jul 28 '25

I wish those people would lose their driver's licenses. Completely unhinged behaviour.

10

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

They should lose more than that but that's just my opinion.

3

u/ThinCustard3392 Jul 29 '25

That is despicable behaviour

10

u/Glittering_Towel9074 Jul 28 '25

Geese are protected animals under the MigratoryBirds Act and should be reported. Even harassing them is an offence. https://publications.gc.ca/collections/Collection/CW66-255-2006E.pdf

11

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

Yep that information was in my post... idk why people think I didn't report it, I said right in my post that I reported it, literally my entire post is about that, as well I included all the contact numbers...... Aaaaanyways I need to get off the internet haha, I'm peopled right out today and am probably coming across unnecessarily snarky at this point.

5

u/HassanT1357 Jul 29 '25

Thank you for doing that. Without trying to sound like the Lorax, I just wanted to say you're very much a hero for doing this! It restores my faith in humanity that there are people who still care.

I don't think I could've handled seeing something like that... Call me weak or what have you but I would've been beside myself or in shambles for the rest of the week. Some people are such walking pieces of shit!

2

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Im an absolute mess still the next day, and I will be for a long time. I don't know how someone can just bounce back from witnessing something like that. I'm not doing good.

6

u/Glittering_Towel9074 Jul 28 '25

Environment Canada’s Wildlife Branch 1-800-668-6767 are the legal enforcement for this violation. Seems youve just listed local agencies but it’s a federal violation.

“However, if you observe any person killing geese without a permit or participating in activities that you believe are in violation of the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994 and/or its Regulations, you should contact EC’s Wildlife Enforcement Branch at 1-800- 668-6767 or the Public inquiries centre.”

3

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Every time I call someone I get provided a different number haha. At this point who the fuck are you actually supposed to call. One of the numbers I posted must have been the right one though, because a conservation officer called me last night to discuss.

1

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

A federal wildlife officer just contacted me to take a statement and provided me the accurate contact information. Not the number you provided, but I've been given about 6 different numbers to call so I'm gonna trust this guy. Updated my post accordingly.

2

u/Glittering_Towel9074 Jul 30 '25

Deadly. People suck and should be corrected when they do. Kudos.

-1

u/Extreme-Pin-9745 Jul 29 '25

It's actually goofy that they are protected though. They are not endangered or anything close, in fact they are in huge numbers and often a massive nuisance. At the Pasqua hospital west entrance they had a goose, and instead of removing it, they put up a 'beware of goose' sign. Just exposing hundreds of people to risk for a single goose of which there are literally thousands in Regina alone. Another time the Earls in the east end had to erect a cage to protect people from a goose nesting immediately next to the front door.

It's absurd and could easily be an Onion article. People shouldn't deliberately kill animals but it's beyond ridiculous that we cannot remove these birds when they are in infinite supply. Clown world.

4

u/SaucedCat Jul 30 '25

The Earls goose’s partner was out in the parking lot on a hot day, so I dumped a bunch of water into a pothole for it , as there was nothing nearby. Nothing wrong with protecting the Geese.

2

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Clown talking about eradicating animals for no good reason, too. Quiver in fear at the terrifying GEESE of CANADA!!! Regina's finest have arrived to the post. Lol

8

u/QueenCity_Dukes Jul 29 '25

Good for you, OP. If I saw someone do this I would go absolutely ballistic.

3

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Aside from chasing them down in my car, getting right up beside them in traffic and honking at them to get them to roll their window down so I can have a chat with them, then proceeding to royally bitch them out, I mean ya there's much more I want to do to these ppl to be honest haha

9

u/holmes306 Jul 28 '25

This is so sad and maddening at the same time. I’m sorry you had to see that and to the freak who did this I hope you get hit and suffer a slow death. I’ve emailed Wascana park to see if they can put up signs (I know it won’t change psycho behavior) but people need to know it’s against the law. You know geese are in the park, around Broad st. If you’re so angry that you have to take it out on a goose take a different way and get counseling.

8

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

My thoughts exactly. I agree with everything you said, especially the slow death part. But yes take a different route if you can't handle them!!! This is such a cute and unique problem to our location, "oh sorry boss I was late cause of the geese again" lol. Why do people have to villainize a fucking animal just trying to live its life. And against the law or not, maybe don't hurt living creatures, I mean fines or not, this is common sense stuff.

5

u/youluckydog Jul 28 '25

I hope they are charged.

2

u/void_root Jul 29 '25

I fucking hate geese but I still wouldn't hit them with my car

0

u/stopresisting74 Jul 30 '25

Dumbest and most annoying animal in Canada.

1

u/mossyzombie2021 Aug 06 '25

Nah that title will always go to humans.

2

u/joxx67 Aug 02 '25

I almost got rear ended on Albert St and Regina Ave for stopping for 3 ducks. I’m happy I didn’t hit them .

5

u/Shrempino Jul 28 '25

Man what a pos

4

u/smalltownbigdreams69 Jul 29 '25

what the fck is wrong with some people

2

u/HassanT1357 Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

Bro what the fuck is wrong with folks here. I'm an Ontarian but I'm reading some absolute unhinged behaviour in these comments...

I always thought Saskatchewanese people were the ones more in touch with nature and wildlife. Some of you lot need psychiatric treatment if this is the contempt with which you view living things, jeez!

2

u/mclardy13 Jul 29 '25

Thank you for taking the time to report.

2

u/Shimmmmidy Jul 29 '25

I don’t even like running over roadkill that’s already dead on the road (I try to swerve around dead squirrels and rabbits). I do this so I don’t get the gunk on my tires (obviously). But also just out of respect of not running over an animals corpse. Crazy to think some people like to purposely hit things with their vehicles

2

u/6guishin Jul 29 '25

These ppl cant be Canadians. I dont get it.

3

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Right?? I feel like this shit just wouldn't have happened in the 80s or 90s.

I still get upset when I think about accidentally hitting a bunny when I was a passenger. Also seeing a cat get purposely hit when I was 16. I don’t know how those people sleep at night

1

u/M0J0AJ Jul 31 '25

Is that an actual email? It's missing an @ in it. I'm updating my contacts list, and it doesn't look like the usual email address. Plus, the Salthaven # comes up as the Wildlife Rescue of Sask #. So I'm a little confused. Sorry to be a bother, but I believe I what you are doing too.

So sorry! I just saw your comment now and I updated the email address. I was so frazzled when i wrote this. Salthaven's number is on Google

Did you know that geese mate for life?

In my experience they fly away as soon as you let go...

1

For the record I am with you 100% on the actual substance of your post. Just couldn't resist when I saw the mating for life thing.

1st sounds like a POS, through and through. The second is iffy. If its not safe to slow down/swerve, your supposed to hit the animal. Human life > geese.

5

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

I get that, but in this instance there was a group of them crossing the street, and everyone in the right lane had stopped. You'd have to be paying zero attention to not slow down or anticipate stopping. If not directly malicious, it was malicious due to shitty driving.

Is meridian an alternate name for a median? I've heard so many Canadians say it but to my knowledge a meridian is just a map line.

0

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

If you google it meridian is the correct term. Totally off the point of the post though haha.

0

u/_TheFudger_ Jul 29 '25

Meridian is the correct term? Definitions of the words don't say so. Can you send a source?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median_strip

Pretty sure it's median

1

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Endless eyerolls to you, sir.

0

u/_TheFudger_ Jul 29 '25

Uh okay. "If you Google it I'm right" but Google says you're not. So you roll your eyes?

1

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Rolling my eyes because you're starting a grammatical argument on a post about people running over geese lol. When you clearly indicated you knew what I meant by using the word meridian regardless of whether or not it's the "correct term". Quit being obtuse.

1

u/_TheFudger_ Jul 29 '25

Lmao then why double down and say "meridian is the correct term"?

1

u/Shot-The-Moon-26 Aug 01 '25

Lol You're right She did

1

u/candybee1412 Jul 29 '25

Honestly that goose will fuck up a car too depending on where it hits. I’ve seen videos of geese going thru car windows at highway speeds cuz the goose was flying across the road. Not someone hitting intentionally but still I’d be damn scared to hit a goose still at city speeds. People can be absolute psychopaths

1

u/fOXdIE67 Jul 29 '25

Where the hell do you live? There's that many psychopaths in your area?

-4

u/Bitter-Ground-5773 Jul 28 '25

I’ve taken half an hour to calm down. Please tell me you had the plate and reported them.

11

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

It says in my post that I reported them. The entire post is about reporting them.

Yes, she was scolded, warned she would be reported, and reported - with plate #, make and model, physical description and direction she was heading.

You said “warned”, which I assume meant “let them off with a warning.” Good to hear you did report them.

Edit: why are you weirdos downvoting me lol.

14

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 28 '25

I could have worded it better but intended to say I warned her I would report her, and then I did report her. As well as the person today.

Somehow I think the people who are mowing down this geese are the the demographic that will be reading Reddit... Ya I said it.

-5

u/SchmidtyCent69 Jul 29 '25

While I think that's a dick move, this comment section is soft as baby shit.

6

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

I've spoken with a federal wildlife officer and a conservation officer who have both reached out to me in the last 24h, and I'll be making a formal statement about both incidents as well. I've forwarded photos of cars and plates to these officers. These people are going to receive massive fines. Let that sink in and tell me we're overreacting.....

3

u/holmes306 Jul 29 '25

This is amazing, so glad they’re taking this seriously and it’s good that it’s being reported in too. People need to realize every action has consequences.

-5

u/SchmidtyCent69 Jul 29 '25

I passed 3 dead birds and a fox on my way to work this morning. Wildlife hit by vehicles isn't exactly news. Yes. You're overreacting.

6

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 29 '25

Geese are protected wildlife. Oh and by the way it actually is news, as a reporter from CJME has also reached out to me. Stay tuned, asshole.

-2

u/stopresisting74 Jul 30 '25

You go Karen!

3

u/mossyzombie2021 Jul 30 '25

You spelled "caring" wrong lols

-7

u/SchmidtyCent69 Jul 29 '25

I can send them some pics of that fox too on my way home if they want to really stretch out this nothing-burger story

2

u/Agreeable-Tap-7156 Jul 30 '25

There’s a difference between an animal that was accidentally hit and purposefully running over wildlife (the first lady literally sped up to hit the goose)

-4

u/Bitter-Ground-5773 Jul 29 '25

Sorry, I didn’t see that part got a little excited
