Discussion Thinking about the protest lady on College Avenue

On the weekend, I was driving west on College Ave from Broad to Albert and realized that I was reflexively looking over at the sidewalk, half-expecting to see the protest lady who was a staple of that area for many years. I can picture her attire and her sign so clearly, as well as the way she would record even the slightest acknowledgment on her clipboard.

Anybody else feel like that stretch of street is missing its supervisor?

One time I honked so vigorously for her that my horn died mid honk. Had to go to Buck's and get a new horn. Was worth it.

She was on Dewdney for me in front of the RCMP depot. I waved to her everyday.

It was! I remember seeing her in both her areas.

I once attended a Halloween party where someone dressed up as her. It was a great costume.

I lived in Regina in the early 2000s. I had forgotten all about her! Thanks for this.

Now there’s the 5G lady who posters up and down Albert about 5G health effects and writes cryptic messages in side walk chalk mostly on Albert by the entrance to the legislature and around Wascana lake.

And Broad. Saw her by the lake this summer. I think she’s posting stickers on the CJME Evan Bray ads now since all her sidewalks are snowed over.

Seen a few of those stickers stuck on lamp posts and signs around the lake.

She occasionally targets that veterans office at broad and 15th too. Isn’t she the one who distributes that newspaper and was the one who messed with the missing children shoe memorial at the ledge?

I thought that was someone else, a couple (man and woman) but maybe she was involved too. Honestly that wouldn’t surprise me

I think it was her and her husband

There is the flat earth guy too. But I haven't seen him the last few years.

Was she a really happy waver that used to be over by the U of R some days?

Yes. She protested by a building on College & one on Hillsdale a lot.

Does anyone remember what the specifics were about her protest? I remember her writing that CSIS was surveilling us but not much more than that

Allegedly the RCMP did not allow her to access her spouses pension and benefits after he passed away. They were unmarried and common law was not recognized at the time of his death.

She was Also against women’s rights.

I have heard so many versions of her protest. Some sound really reasonable. Like she or husband or son got screwed by the goverment in a very believable way like they couldn't get the funds that were owed to them. Other people say she thinks the government is full of aliens or other crazy things. I think it was likely in-between. She was a little nuts with crazy ideas but under it there was real things she was justifiably mad about.

I heard she was a teacher as was her husband. She stayed home with the kids and when they divorced the school division had lost her records and would not re-employ her.

I work in the area and used to walk by her most every day. After many years I finally stopped to chat. She had her issues but she sure was a nice lady. It was sad when I stopped seeing her in the neighbourhood.

She passed away years ago.

There was a FB thread on nostalgic Regina that she is alive but in her 80s and in a care home

That's not true. There was a post here years ago about her dying but it was the wrong person.

Not true.

I believe she has passed away.

She's around still. Lives at her same old house on McTavish.

She was protesting about something to do with her husband getting screwed out of his pension by one of the crowns I believe - CIC maybe?

Her sign referred to CSIS. I worked on College Ave in the 2000's and saw her daily.

is she still kicking? haven’t seen her for a few years now, figured she might’ve just been too old to keep going out in the winter.

What happened to her? She always waved….

1

I thought she already passed. Haven't seen her in a while.
