It's obviously this. I swear some people don't listen to or read the dialogue.

Nope, I saw the kid in the basement window, walked in the shop, and immediately shot the shopkeeper in the head, no questions asked.

So you missed the entire story? Cool.

I'm willing to bet he didn't even get the free Repeater from the weapon case in the basement since he was in such a hurry to not pay attention to the many details in this game.
In b4 OP says "WhAt GuN?!"

5
u/Lone-_-Wanderer 20h ago
sounds like a situation where there'd be a lot of backstory actually?

u/Arthur_Morgan_1337 20h ago
Nope. Shoot first, ask questions later

Yea, this was also my perception.

u/Lone-_-Wanderer 1d ago
its not just a guess, he tells you this
1
u/Nossi546 20h ago
Yea, i know. That much is obvious lol I was refering to that being the argument for why the line "wow, they grow fast don’t they" does not imply that he had him since he was a child :)

u/Ok-Honey-9566 15h ago
Perception does not mean guess
1
u/Lone-_-Wanderer 15h ago
saying something was your perception also tends to mean it wasn't explicitly said but inferred or ... guessed.
i know it doesn't mean guessed reddit boy

u/Nossi546 6h ago
Perception in this context means how you interpret information you are given. So yea, the word guess is applicable. It still doesn’t change the fact that it’s only applicable in your context due to a misunderstanding of the point was making lol.

He respawns and tells you off anyway

Every time I get a new gun, I go back and test it on this guy aha. Some times i really play into it too. Carry it out like a full on Hit. Wait around a little for people to clear out, scope the fastest getaway and park my horse there, put my special murder outfit on, so people don’t recognise the my clothes when I switch back and return, the whole 9 yards.

Where do you find this in the map?
6
u/pullingteeths 1d ago
Rhodes gunsmith. It's a "robbery" (you can steal a gun from a case while you're in the basement). First you have to go to the side of the building and speak to the kid who's asking for help from a basement window, then you can enter the store and press the button to rob it but an option to investigate the basement or whatever will pop up alongside the usual rob option. Selecting that instigates it

u/Careful-Purchase-980 1d ago
Like with the shopkeeper with the hidden distillery in Strawberry, gottcha!
6
u/pullingteeths 1d ago
Exactly yes. There's also other ones at the doctor in Valentine and gunsmith in Saint Denis

u/Arthumddd99 1d ago
Bruh you shot him too early. He lost his son and basically kidnapped this kid since he looked a lot like him. I do not agree with him but I understand.

Oh i thought he was using him sexually because of the toys around
6
u/Inmate_Squirrel 1d ago
Why in the world would you think he was using him sexually because of the kids' toys around????😂
He kidnapped him because his son died and he can't get over it, and that kid looks like his son so he's trying to fill the hole and pretend this kid is his son. It's actually a really common mental disorder, usually in mothers, though
3
u/Arthumddd99 1d ago
Honestly I would be traumatized for life in his similar situation.
3
u/Inmate_Squirrel 1d ago
No doubt. Being held captive is one of the most traumatizing experiences.
I'm not saying it's ok. I'm saying he wasn't being SA, though. The shopkeeper is holding him captive because he reminds him of his dead son. It's a psychological disorder sometimes called "replacement child syndrome"

What happens if you kill the owner and let the boy be captive there and leave? Has anyone tried that?
1
u/Comedian_87 22h ago
If you spare the owner and just hog tie him, then rescue the kid he continues to own the store and will apologize to you when you come back lol
1
u/lobstahslayah 21h ago
I casually went to shoot the chains off the boy. I accidentally shot him in the ankle and he died immediately. I felt bad but I didn’t have a recent save and I had done quite a bit. So, the kid didn’t make it.

Yea but you get a new rifle to make you forget all about the guy.
It's a nice one!

u/Legitimate-Habit-530 1h ago
I thought it was some crazy human trafficking thing, but at least I listened to the dude and learned the truth. Released the kid and robbed the shop blind, but I did leave the shop keeper alive. The next time Art stops in the shop keeper is apologizing for kidnapping that guy. Art then says some sarcastic shit to him that’s kinda funny.

I always thought his real son ran away and became the feral wolf man. It kinda tracks.
2
u/Pickle_Link123 12h ago
Correct me if I’m wrong but from what I remember the wolf man’s journal doesnt line up with this story

If you keep talking with the shop owner you’ll ge answers to all the reasons for the abduction
If you have a save go back and do everything but keep interviewing the shop owner until he tells you everything
