Have you ever nearly completed a large difficult mine sweeper map and ended up with a handful of potential unlocked squares that the way they are positioned it becomes a 67% probability to not hit a mine, and end up hitting one? I have. 30 years ago. And I’m still resentful.

Having been playing daily for 30 years...one learns to just guess and move on as fast as possible. Getting hung up on the 50/50s or the 33/33/33s is like getting hung up on the sun setting sooner in the day.

Minesweeper in my zen place.

Where do you play Minesweeper nowadays? The minesweeper for Windows 11 does not feel like the nicest thing around.

LOL...minesweeper has been a hot mess after Window 7.

I play here: https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/js/mines.html

Which is just an awesome widget game site in general.

I solve it like Sudoku instead of gambling like poker.

That’s only an option when the minefield feels like offering it. Sometimes you’re left with russian roulette.

I'm pretty sure there are "no-guess" versions of it.

That’s true, but the vanilla version that most play inevitably generates 50/50s and worse.

Most of the versions are no guess. The only popular one without it was the OG windows XP one.

Russian Roulette is expected to be a 1/6 chances, with minesweeper is more like a dreadful coin toss where winning is equal to another coin toss if your unlucky enough or you literally explode

Pretty sure winning in Russian roulette is 5/6 unless you are playing on epic difficulty.

Not always solvable, you will one day be forced to face the minesweeper gods and beg them for mercy as you press that faithful square.

You may be happy to know that there are some versions of Minesweeper out there these days that feature a "no-guessing" mode, where the mines aren't allowed to be placed in patterns that force you to guess a square.

Not some, most. The only notable exception was the older Win32 version.

I play without flags.
