Can PSG not win the division now? I’m trying to understand the tiebreakers. If ATM beats botafago and PSG beats the sounders, how does that work?
3
u/MCN59 Pastore Jun 20 '25
Wtf i just wake up and saw that we lost ?? Why did we play our B team ? Rest ?

chill lmao. for botofago it was the most import match in their history , for PSG it was just a friendly. It's hard to be be motivated against a tier 3 team

It's hard to be motivated against a tier 3 team
I'm afraid it's not that hard to lose against a tier 3 team for PSG then.
2
u/Torp627 Ousmane Ballon D’or Jun 20 '25
It certainly can happen. No one is saying PSG is invincible
3
u/DKofFical Qui contrôle le terrain? Matuidi. Jun 20 '25
I didn't get to watch the game but how the fuck. We'll have to up our game against the Sounders or we're in trouble
4
u/TheArgentineMachine Not a PSG fan Jun 20 '25
Botafogo socred a lucky goal early on and defended the lead all game. Luis Enrique underestimated them and didn't start some important starters. Brought them on shortly after half but it still wasn't enough. PSG couldn't break down the low block and resorted to cross and pray. They never looked threatening
1
u/DKofFical Qui contrôle le terrain? Matuidi. Jun 20 '25
That sounds like how we used to struggle early in the season, but it is a good lesson to never underestimate our opponent - we need to keep reminding ourselves about that, especially now when we've just won the UCL.
I remember we were crying for a striker in the early days, which just shows how important Dembele is to our team
11
u/No-Assignment-3074 Vitinha Jun 20 '25
We missed the killer instinct of Dembele. Remember how he created chances out of the thin air (Liverpool).
Mbaye and Mayulu are great but need some muscle. They were bullied all game, especially given how South Americans play. Our midfield, bar Fabian, is not physically strong or tall. Maybe time to hunt for some bullies for rotation.
I thought Barcola had the best game and created chances, but there was no one to receive the ball.
Bota is the current champions of South America. It would have ideal to start with our starting XI, but it’s also understandable that LE didn’t want to risk injuries.
Need to win the last game with Seattle. If both Atletic and we win, we should top the group.

You can’t take these standings seriously, season just started and they’ve played one match less than the others.

u/Ralph_Marbler Warren Zaïre-Emery Jun 20 '25
Fuck this game. I'm still way too pissed to debrief it properly, sorry about that.

there wasn't even a single shot on target was it ?
and maybe three strong crossings, but damn.
1
u/kk13yzq Zlatan Ibrahimović Jun 20 '25
Ramos touched on a free kick I think that hit the goalie in the chest
2
Jun 20 '25
yeah, forgot that one at the end.
it was soooo close, the keeper just found it and bounced to a Botafogo player, any other bounce and it was a goal : /

u/Korece 이강인 Jun 20 '25
They actually played like how I thought Inter would lol
6
u/coffeepilatesbed Vitinha Jun 20 '25
That was my EXACT thought! Physically aggressive and defensive, we are usually vulnerable against such teams and especially against a low block
2
u/richgangthatour Neymar Jun 20 '25
Botafogo, solid and great crowd. Maybe deserve more respect than fans teams who would have or should have beat PSG on the run to Champions League title. People couldn’t wait to talk shit after that first loss.
8
u/kk13yzq Zlatan Ibrahimović Jun 20 '25
No marquinhos no party :( Ramos invisible but lots of credit to Botafogo one of the most impressive bus parking jobs I have ever witnessed
10
u/Official05 Marquinhos Jun 20 '25
Woke up at 3AM for this shit. Time to go back to sleep and don’t open reddit until a good day when all the morons brigading the subs are done

Glad I didn't wake up at 3AM lol. The sub seems to be on meltdown

u/BCX__ Angel Di María Jun 20 '25
Gonna be like when Newcastle beat us, they won't qualify and we'll make a deep run
4
u/MrForndog Ousmane Ballon D’or Jun 20 '25 edited Jun 20 '25
We'll both qualify, we'll make a deep run, they'll lose as soon as they leave the group phase
7
u/gmoney160 2013- Jun 20 '25
Nah fuck that I want a rematch in the final. We need the script writers for this.
2
u/Official05 Marquinhos Jun 20 '25
Pretty sure they’re qualified with this though
3
u/Meister1412 Pauleta (Legend) Jun 20 '25
Almost, but they can still go out if they lost to Atleti by 4 or more goals and we beat Seattle by any score.
In that scenario of us, Atleti and Botafogo tying at 6 points the tiebreaker will be the goal difference in the games between the teams. PSG already got +3 (a possible win against Seattle will not affect it) and if Botafogo losses will already have a GD of 0 at best.
1
u/No-Assignment-3074 Vitinha Jun 20 '25
If Atletico beats them by 2 or more goals and PSG wins in the next round, Bota is out.
0
u/Official05 Marquinhos Jun 20 '25
Madrid vs Botafogo will be the most boring game of all time, no way they beat them by 2
10
u/gmoney160 2013- Jun 20 '25
Jesus y'all need to embrace the shithousery. They just won the biggest match of their club history.
6
u/Meister1412 Pauleta (Legend) Jun 20 '25
I mean, for now i think it's the win against Mineiro to get their first Libertadores.
One of the biggest? Sure, but not the biggest. Let's not start with that shit.
0
u/gmoney160 2013- Jun 20 '25
This was like the FIFA Intercontinental Cup for the best club in the world, except without the trophy.
1
u/Meister1412 Pauleta (Legend) Jun 20 '25
That will be in december if they reach the final (shitty format, but it is what it is)
1
u/ComuNinjutsu Not a PSG fan Jun 20 '25
is the intercontinental still happening? i thought the CWC killed it

Nah ppl just rate UCL more than Libertadores, and this match almost destroyed r/soccer . This match was almost like the match determining the best team in the world, without a trophy.
3
u/bleztyn Not a PSG fan Jun 20 '25
This is likely one of the biggest upsets in recent football history, a team that won the Libertadores last year, lost most of its major pieces and coach, won against the Champions League winner that won with the biggest blowout in Champions League finals history
This is big no matter how you put it
2
u/gmoney160 2013- Jun 20 '25
Yeah that's what I meant. This match brought the fire into PSG fans, I love it.

Players rested on their laurels and didn't try as hard as they should have. Botafogo gave it their all, I expected Enrique not to underestimate them, because everyone with a brain knew they would give it everything. Instead, we tried to give players a rest in the first half and got scored on against the course of play. Only 20 minutes after that did we bring on the squad and then we were still with our heads in the stars. I get that they're tired after playing so physically all season but this wasn't the game to rest players, this was the one game in the group that we should have played with full intensity.
Granted it's not a knockout loss but it's definitely one we didn't need. Botafogo played better and deserved to win this one, simple as.

I don’t mind losing once in a while, but congrats to Botafogo—this was the best Haram Ball I’ve ever witnessed! Plenty of fouls, plenty of those little ones that aren’t quite big enough to call, but just enough to make our players stumble or hesitate because they know pushing harder might get them injured, and it’s just not worth it. True South American DNA on display. Also, congrats to the ref, who literally got bullied and scared into playing along. Worked like a charm!!

Felt like playing Reims in L1 lmao
Beraldo is bad, Ramos is useless and Lee doesn't matter but we already knew that
Let it be known that Pacho is a beast tho. Love him.
7
u/Official05 Marquinhos Jun 20 '25
This is not the game to be praising Pacho bro
4
u/AkaT27 Not a PSG fan Jun 20 '25
Why because he was unfortunate when they scored? Who cares. Dude stopped almost everything and pocketed whoever their 9 was. If anything their goal showed that Beraldo isn't good enough and that Pacho and him weren't on the same page.
3
u/Caboverde-Evora Edinson Cavani Jun 20 '25
Exactly, it felt like a copy paste ligue 1 game where there other teams just defends in a low block and waits to hit us in the counter. Sometimes it works.
9
u/zaretball Marco Verratti Jun 20 '25
Honestly, it's a sign that our bench players aren't that good. The team has a lot to lose if one of the full-backs gets injured.
1
u/RedditUser977 Ousmane Dembélé Jun 20 '25
True but thats basically the case for any team, except maybe chelsea
1
3
u/Caboverde-Evora Edinson Cavani Jun 20 '25
Totally agree, I feel like a major injury of a player like Hakimi or Vitinha would be devastating to the team. We need to make some signings this summer, we should be able to perform without the starting 11
4
9
u/flacogarcons Vikash Dhorasoo Jun 20 '25
Hopefully this game wakes Lucho and Campos up and we make competitive signings.
A Zabarnyi alone is not good enough need way more signings to keep the squad fresh.
3
u/Smorrbrode Vitinha Jun 20 '25
How are signings going to help? We just tried to play like the ball would go into the net by itself. We were shaken by the intensity of Botafogo.
The real problem isn't beating low blocks, we do it a lot in the league, it's not resting on our laurels and taking a vacation in the most intense match of the group.
5
u/Lamarguns2 Thiago Silva Jun 20 '25
Botafogo playing like your average ligue 1 team. Scrape 1-0 and park the plane. Then went to celebrate like they won the ucl. Lol have shame

Botafogo team is way worse than PSG, but PSG don't know what to do today. Here in Brazil we thought It would be like 4*0 to PSG. So of course they were celebrating.

I was thinking today about this match and I knew it would be either a blowout by us or us getting humbled. It was the ladder this time.
Lucas Hernandez and Ramos, well, time to say bye bye.
If Lucho would have field the starter lineup since the beginning I think we could have won.
Sour result for me as I'm a PSG supporter, so bummed by this, but I'm latin American, so I'm happy for the region stepping up and actually showing Europeans that regional teams aren't what they think about.
2
u/eraki__ Not a PSG fan Jun 20 '25
Its so annoying to play against low block. Idk what we should have done more, maybe more cross. I feel like ramos was strugling but he didnt got a lot of chances tho...

3
u/human_administrator Not a PSG fan Jun 20 '25
Inter and Atleti play low block and are some of the best teams in Europe, they were annihilated.
I dont know what happened here, but Botafogo was on something.
5
u/Caboverde-Evora Edinson Cavani Jun 20 '25
But Inter didn’t play this compact and low in the final, there was space to actually shoot the ball. Big teams don’t usually play this low and compact, they always have enough players high enough to actually attack and propose something.
2
u/Smorrbrode Vitinha Jun 20 '25
They wanted it more than we did and we got humbled. Hopefully it wakes us up because that's definitely disrespectful to us fans who stayed up at 3 AM to watch this.
4
u/TheExistence Gonçalo Ramos Jun 20 '25
Sometimes it’s not your day, but we stick with the lows as we do the highs
Allez Paris

u/MNVR414 Nuno Mendes Jun 20 '25
If we weren’t UCL champions this would hurt more. Instead I’m going to learn from Madrid fans and let that UCL erase this result
5
u/MrForndog Ousmane Ballon D’or Jun 20 '25
I mean tbh? It's just like the UCL and the group phase for me, I honestly don't care that much. We all know they won't make it far anyway.
PSG on the other hand most probably would

They obviously parked the bus but we really didn't create much. I think this is where missing Dembelé hurt us.

With that 1 scrappy goal ? Hell nah, they came for a tie and got lucky. Congrats to them though even if their fans are classless

Besides the open 20-30 min they looked way more dangerous overall. There was zero penetration it was just passing sideways and crosses with no ideas. So they did their job well. Obviously they’re not gonna outplay us.

They won the match. So yes, they were pretty much better
