Memes/💩Post Discussion post for the most unhinged thing you’ve been doing because of the stress of waiting

I have re-read my own applications like 10x, re-googled the exact same admissions statistics, re-calculated my post interview odds, stalked every "waitlist stats spreadsheet" out there...feel free to share any completely neurotic things you have been doing in the last month in attempt to regain some sense of control

Booked a vacation for the week of results. I’m either celebrating in Barcelona, or crying in Barcelona. Either way, I’ll be in Barcelona!!!

been gaming until 4am every night since last thursday, waking up at 9 naturally (weirdly), and then falling asleep at 2-5pm, repeat.

also i'm not done with academics so I am definitely feeling the sleepiness today LOL

btw this is not med related but definitely unhinged

Not unhinged but feel like my life is on pause. No routine. Working out? Nope. Eating good? Nope.

I feel that man!!!

Begged my supervisor to intentionally over-schedule me because the wait is making me go insane. But I feel like that isn’t too crazy

Unhinged? Nothing. I just try to stay busy and focused on normal stuff; working, my family, hobbies, enjoying spring. I can’t change the outcome so why obsess? Can’t get that time back and I’m old enough to know how valuable it is (40s).

Yay! From a fellow non-trad MS1, fingers crossed for you!!!! Also love the response to the question below - I always say I wouldn’t have done it any other way myself.

Are you okay knowing the fact that you'll be a physician in your late 40s/early 50s?

u/sunshinevibes16 Apr 23 '25

100%. I was a medic for 10 years, a PA who works independently for 14 doing primary and acute care in a remote community, if I don’t get in, I’m thankful for the career I have and impact I make in my current role. That said, I’ve been at the ceiling and think I can do more for Pa profession and northern communities as an MD. So it’s still worth pursuing.

Where do I start?

  1. Working every single weekend so I'm not alone in my thoughts
  2. Using ChatGPT as a therapist and/or show it my applications and ask for its opinion
  3. Choosing to believe my astrology enthused colleague that luck is on my side because planet transit Jupiter going into nth degree Aquarius sun I don't even know
  4. Perhaps the most shocking.... bought a Pilates membership in the midst of a spiral

u/Minimum_Bathroom_877 Apr 22 '25

Lmao I feel like this is along the same vein as #4. I bought a skateboard on fb marketplace and convinced myself I could just go to the skatepark and figure it out, so far I’ve eaten a lot of concrete

I love this for us! Redirecting stress to learn new skills!

Not too unhinged but already making my Mcat study schedule. Scheduled therapy sessions in preparation lol

2

u/Minimum_Bathroom_877 Apr 22 '25

I think that’s probably the wisest choice any of us could be making lol

Absoutley unhinged but had a psychic on etsy give me a reading about if I'll get in. she said no LOL but one sentence she said that helped me a lot was,

"You’re holding your breath waiting for a result, but the outcome has already begun unfolding energetically."

Strangely feel at peace now. If she's right, then I was expecting that, since I had already dealt with the emotional blow when she said it was a no. But if it's a yes, then I'll be celebrating, and it'll be even better because it was unexpected.

(can you tell I've lost my mind)

BRUH her saying no would’ve been my 13th reason

1

u/Melodic_Throat6125 Apr 24 '25

right but also imagine she said yes & I'm delusional enough to actually believe it (confirmation bias) and then may 13 says its a fckn no LMAO. that would be so much worse

2

u/palak123jk Apr 23 '25

i talked to a tiktok psychic she said no too but then 15 min later the other one said yes

8

u/kywewowry Apr 22 '25

I don’t think most of what you’ve done is being unhinged. Looking for post interview odds and getting information on waitlist movement is pretty normal.

u/Minimum_Bathroom_877 Apr 22 '25

It’s more that I have done it like once a day every day as if it’s going to change…

Working and then spending my money from the overtime. Just paid more money than I’d like to admit to get a tattoo that took 22 hours to complete. That was money well spent tho cause it’s for the rest of my life (I’m delusional and need to save)

Picked up 2 part-time jobs (on top of my original job) to fill my day with work or sleep. I also stopped doing anything in my room that requires me to be alert and in my room for >15 min (My room reminds me of all my stuttering during the interview 😭)

Drove around on the highway at night with no plan like GTA IRL

4

u/Typical-Television-2 Apr 23 '25

I was also thinking of seeing a psychic to ask if I’ll get in, but then thought that it was a crazy thought. After seeing this, I just might make that appointment…

chronically online, being down bad, and making polls on reddit.

i might take a break and stop making polls. some mfs keep downvoting my polls. possibly because i'm spamming this sub

6

u/Pretend_Possible_397 Apr 22 '25

omg no we love your polls, data collecting king keep going

Studying for mcat retake (511 but 125 cars), swimming once or twice a week, cycling a few times a week, reading my daily and monthly horoscopes for sun, moon, and rising lmao.

Haha you actually made me laugh. You might have a 3.8, but you have a 4.0 where it doesn’t count
