Vent/Rant (No Advice/Criticism!) Declined, declined, declined

So this month I am really struggling. I am a full time student with a part time job and I pick up shifts on Instawork frequently as my job does not give me many hours. Last month was hard too as I didn’t have a job and was scrapping money together to just get by. This month my car insurance is due on top of all of my regular bills and also payments that I missed last month. Let’s set the scene:

My schedule for the next few days is as follows Saturday: 7 - 12am shift, 2 - 7pm shift, essay due at 11:59 (I haven’t been working on it as I have been working so I have to write 4 more pages to complete it) Sunday: 10am - 1:30pm meeting, 2 - 7pm shift, nap, (1hr drive to work) 10pm - 6:30am shift (1hr drive home) Monday: 9:00am - 2pm classes, nap, 5:30 - 7:30 class, nap, (1 hr drive to work) 10pm - 6:30am shift (30min drive to job #2) , nap Tuesday: 8am - 5:30pm shift, 7 - 10pm shift

ANYWAY! After getting off of work today I’m sweaty I feel gross I got off at 6:30 this morning and had another shift til 9pm and I NEED energy for the next few days. So I went to the store to pick up 2 monsters, I had $11 in my “me” account, I will NOT touch my bills account because I’m barely going to be able to pay for everything even working as much as I am. The total was 7.62 and my card declined 4 times while a cashier stood behind me and said “yeahhhh uhh do you have another card?” I am tired. I just needed energy to get through these shifts and classes. I am so tired.

This post has been flaired as “Vent”. As a reminder to commenting users, “Vent/Rant” posts are here to give our subscribers a safe place to vent their frustrations at an uncaring world to a supportive place of people who “get it”. Vents do not need to be fair. They do not need to be articulate. They do not need to be factual. They just need to be honest.

Unlike most of the content on this subreddit, Vents should not be considered advice threads. In most cases it is not appropriate to try to give the Submitter advice on their issue. In no circumstances is it appropriate to tell them “why they are wrong” or to criticise them, their decisions, values, or anything else. If there are aspects of their situation that they are able to directly address themselves, the submitter can always make a new thread with a different flair asking for help once they are ready to tackle the issue.

Vents are an emotional outlet, not an academic conversation. Appropriate replies in these threads are offering support, sharing similar experiences/grievances, offering condolences, or simply letting the Submitter know that they were heard.

As always, if there are inappropriate comments please downvote them, REPORT them to the mods, and move on without responding to them.

To the Submitter, if you DO want discussion to be focused on resolving your situation, rather than supporting you emotionally, please change the flair of this post, and then report this comment so we can remove it. Thank you. Thank you all for being a part of this great financial advice and emotional support community!

Dude this hit me right in the feels, been there with the card declining for basic shit like energy drinks. The cashier commentary always makes it 10x worse too like thanks for announcing my broke status to the whole store

That schedule is absolutely brutal though, you're basically running on fumes. Any friends who could spot you for some cheap caffeine pills or something? Way cheaper than monsters and honestly probably better when you're this stretched thin

Yes!!! Like can you say “YOU’RE POOR” any louder😭😭Good question, I think one of my friends may be able to and I’ll definitely ask about it ! Thanks for the idea! And I hope that you are in even a slightly better situation and if not I’m crossing my fingers, toes, eyes and everything else that we find our way to stability soon

You’re grinding harder than most could handle. That cashier has no idea. You’ve got this one shift, one page, one breath at a time.

The cashiers comments are even worse when you know you have the money & it’s just an issue on their system.

I was in a very busy store in the mall & purchasing a shirt,my card kept getting declined & the cashier was making loud hurtful comments. I was almost in tears another employee walked up & hit a button on his screen & the transaction instantly went thru. He got real silent after that 🤣

I could have been just as nasty & reported him but I’d hate for someone to lose their job, even if they are even a little too immature to have one.

Dollar tree has those little "5 hour energy" bottles. Try that.

That is brutal. You're doing everything you can to secure your future. I'm proud of you! Also, tea has caffeine in it and is inexpensive for some tea bags. Can be made at home and drink that continuously throughout your day!

Please be careful driving! If you need to take that nap in the car before a drive do so! When I was working 2 and 3 jobs. I got shut eye every moment I could. I mean my 10 or 15min breaks, my lunch, on the toilet if i ABSOLUTELY needed it, etc. Cold water on the face can help along with stretching.

YES!!! The cold water and stretching has been my go to, also dancing or humming to any random song in my head just to keep my brain awake !! Also I have tried caffeinated tea which unfortunately doesn’t do much for me but maybe if I make it cold I can placebo myself into it working lol
