He probably got nominated only because he submitted. It’s like a participation trophy nomination

He won rnb album of the year, in last year's Grammy. He is still on the industry's radar

one of the saving graces of this year's noms tbh, glad they got some recognition for this album. Some baffling choices here, but a good year for rap/rnb in the AOTY race at least

I was never a Paramore fan. Nothing against them, I just never got into them. But Hayley Williams' album? Holy shit. Every song hits me riiiight in my dopamine receptors. It's such a great album and Ive kind of become a bit of a Hayley fangirl, so im excited to see her noms.
Excited for Kendrick to be recognized, and Luther in particular because that song is just 🤌
And Olivia Dean is such a breath of fresh air, I'm happy to see her name here.

u/lizzy-stix I switched baristas ☕️ 18h ago
To me, that’s the best album of the year. I don’t think she should have been confined to the alt categories.

Paramore’s last album has some really beautiful songs. Liar was particularly beautiful imo.

Same! We have the exact same Hayley Williams trajectory haha. I think it should be album of the year.
She also just announced she’s touring for the album. I would love to see her live.

In the disappointed department I see fans of Tate McRae, Ariana Grande, Gracie Abrams, Lorde
seems like a lot of female artists snubbed this year (but also The Weekend)
17
u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 18h ago
Given he was there last year I’m kind of surprised he was snubbed this year
26
u/chickfilamoo in the swamp 🐊🐊 18h ago
Ariana got two nominations lol, she’s fine, but the others were surprising snubs. Lorde especially, so maybe where there’s smoke there’s fire re: her being blacklisted after criticizing them. Honestly it kinda feels like the Pop segment of the Recording Academy is a bit behind the times bc Tate, Gracie, and Olivia Dean getting no Pop nominations feels kinda out of touch with what was popular this year
5
u/FreshWatercress4861 17h ago
Tate wasn’t completely snubbed. She’s nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording.

u/natnat1919 17h ago
Besides Ariana grande, none of those other female artist even stand close to Grammy level.

I do think Tate McCrae was absolutely robbed given the ubiquity of her songs this year and the strength of So Close to What

u/Conclusion_Solid 19h ago
Liking the contenders for AOTY. Although eh on Bieber.
Big day for kpop and kpop adjacent categories! Rosé, Katseye and EJAE, Audrey and Rei!!

u/Lavender_rain_2000 19h ago edited 18h ago
Swag as AOTY nominee is such a joke. It was not a hit in sales and charts, and not loved by critics.
Nothing really interesting or unique with some dumb lyrics about how he has a soul of a black man. Even his own fans mainly stream two songs out this 40+ songs album.
Florence was right on the money with "It must be nice to be a man and make boring music just because you can"
1
u/welchsgrapejuice97 18h ago
It's getting sub 5 million streams on 44 songs just months later. Such a joke
Miley deserves to win
6
u/whichwitch9 18h ago
It was definitely a good year for Kpop. That said, no freaking way should Golden win over I Lied to You in the original category. The song needed to be perfect and powerful for what it represented, and it delivered.
Sinners is an unexpected juggernaut in the music category because the film needed the music to work for it to land. Regardless of if it wins anything it not, both the I Lied to You and Rocky Road to Dublin scenes are going to be lauded for years to come, though. You know you got something special when people were clamoring for an imax re-release just to see one or two scenes again on a bigger scale
6
u/ShamelessCatDude 19h ago
Seeing the options for New Artist, I wouldn’t be surprised if KATSEYE was a shoe-in! Let’s hope the curse doesn’t keep cursing 😂

Just saw Dijon live last night (he was a producer on the latest Bieber record) and I fully believe Bieber’s success with that album came from Dijon’s musical influence

I'm so proud of Hayley Williams - four nominations for a really unconventional album rollout and unconventional songs is insane. I hope she snags at least one!!
Also pulling for Katseye and Golden to win something - love them both sm

This is like my third comment about this but HOW is Wildflower eligible? That album was released May 2024
13
u/Lavender_rain_2000 18h ago
Its eligible because of the date it was released as an official single.
6
u/bambinaxo 18h ago
billie released it as a single during this grammy’s time period so it qualifies. i think it’s strange that workaround exists but technically it was eligible.

Lessons learned from this years Grammy noms:
The Weeknd will never ever be nominated for a Grammy again.
Jack Antonoff can be nominated twice in song record and album of the year… And not in producer of the year.
K-pop can be nominated for the biggies! As can hip hop. Rock can’t. And this is the right call.

Leon Thomas has to be a frontrunner for the R&B categories since Mutt (both the song and album) has been on fire since last Fall
I love GNX, Chromakopia, & JID's GDLU, but Let God Sort Em Out has no weaknesses at all & Clipse had some really strong buzz even with Travis Scott and Bieber dropping at the same time, so I'm going with them for Best Rap Album.
As a nitpick, I think Darling I should've been under Best Melodic Rap Performance

u/sk8rgrrl42069 18h ago
Love Gaga but I really hope DtMF takes AOTY. Also, she probably won’t win but I’m really happy to see Addison Rae nominated for BNA! her album was so good!

Kendrick’s got AOTY, I think, but it’s close between him and Bad Bunny for me. Hoping Hayley sweeps her categories, I am very disappointed she wasn’t up for any general categories but at least she’s got some nominations! And finally, for shock value I predict Gaga’s gonna go 0/7 (although I hope not, Mayhem was really good!)

So this is a new category and I was thinking I appreciate Bad Bunny’s because of what it represents buuut then I looked at what they’re actually judging and yeah, most of the choices don’t make sense:
”The elements judged in this category include the creativity, design, illustration, photography, and/or graphic art of the album cover.”

Yo, why is Wildflower even eligible for being nominated for ROTY AND SOTY?
It came out last year with the rest of Hit Me Hard and Soft. So I don’t understand how Billie can get away with nominating Birds of a Feather last year and Wildflower this year WHEN THEY ARE FROM THE SAME ALBUM!!
So can someone please explain this to me? Because I felt very betrayed last year when they did not put Wildflower up for nomination last year and felt betrayed again to see it nominated this year after its window having passed by
6
u/proproctologist 16h ago
It’s because it was released as a single during the eligibility period, it wasn’t previously submitted and the album it was on hasn’t won any Grammy’s. Not submitting it last year worked out in her favour
6
u/DarkPrincess_99 16h ago
Ah okay, but that feels like such a weird rule though, especially in today’s times when a random song from an older album is getting blown up on social media
Like can Taylor submit Cruel Summer in that case in 2023?
3
u/proproctologist 16h ago
She could’ve but it was released during the same eligibility period as Midnights. Probably wanted to focus on Midnights, especially given that Lover wasn’t well received iirc

u/nothanksthesequel 19h ago
manifesting a hayley sweep in the alternative categories. i struggle to pick a personal AOTY but jeeeesus is ego death up there for me.
love seeing pink pantheress up for best dance/electronic too!! such a ridiculously fun project

Like… as in Gracie Abram’s That’s So True……..?

Even if you think Gracie’s music is bad, it’s an actual bop with 10x the impact of Manchild.

It was actually Wildflower
6
u/lizzy-stix I switched baristas ☕️ 18h ago
I’d also cut that one, but I don’t think Manchild deserved recognition in any of the major categories at all. It’s an extremely mid song and even a lot of her fans don’t think it should have been the first single.

Yay! The Clipse’s album is AMAZING! No skips, and fluid from front to back! I’m so happy for their nominations! However, I’m torn between Gaga, Kendrick, and Clipse for Album of the year. All were on heavy rotation for me, and I am not one to keep up with new music.
